    We'll have our annual cookout with family and friends. Then when it gets dark, my husband will set off tons of very illegal fireworks. He likes the kind that shoot up in the air and go boom. Our local police department is kind of used to this - we've been doing it for years - so usually a crusier just parks down the block to keep an eye on things and enjoy the show. We always have to warn new people to the neighborhood so they don't complain.

    DC weather can be kind of hit or miss in January. But Drewbie's correct that even 30's or 40's isn't too bad. It's like people saying the Arizona heat isn't bad because it's a dry heat. Those 30's or 40's are still mild. Georgetown alone has over 200 establishments that could fall into the 'pub' catagory and we've got some of the best museums around. You could spend days in the Smithsonian. Just avoid anything that has the designation 'south east' behind it, unless you plan to paint a target on your chest.

    And while you're there, I recommend the Chart House in Old Town Alexandria as a good spot for dinner. It's right on the river and the view is wonderful. Old Town is nice to wander through also.

    My youngest turns 18 on July 1, 2011. At that time I feel I will have satisfied any obligation I have to keeping the family unit together. I'll happily sell my house, take my half of the proceeds and run, just as fast as I can in the opposite direction. And sorry Buttercup, I have no intentions of ever tying myself legally to another person. So you'll just have to pass those genes elsewhere.
