  1. Cards! Cards! Cards! Cards! Cards! Cards!
  2. Happy, happy Birthday! Here's wishing you all the best!
  3. The Cards are 2-3 and our home opener isn't until Monday. We had beautiful weather all this week and next week is supposed to be rainy, go figure. The first game I will be attending is a week from today! Go Cards! :krista:
  4. Some very good observations posted about the topic. I worked for the federal government for more than thirty years in a sometimes adversarial role as a claims examiner and I developed a fairly thick skin pretty quick as many people resort to ad hominem attacks pretty quickly when frustrated, mad or feel that the system is abusing them. It takes a lot of tact to work with people to get them through their anger and to get them to become coherent so you can try to help them through the intricacies of the claims process. Getting people to hear what you say instead of taking offense at everything as if you don't believe them is a big problem. Explaining you believe them but that evidence to prove the claim is needed and questioning them as to when, where, what and how can be maddening. Many times communication starts with letters that are full of legalese required by the lawyers and that puts claimants off too. We live in the age of instant communication and often that becomes instant miscommunication.

    Chapter 19

The chapter's final line is quoted below: "Micah did not realize that it was going to be the end of the part of the world as he’d known it." Another chapter of rebellion which ends on with a dire warning about the future of our young hero. Not how I was hoping this one would go. Great writing and so very believable!

    Chapter 22

    Very romantic and loving chapter.

    Chapter 18

I hope Betty thinks about what Marcia said and realizes that if she pushes it may backfire. Growing up is such a hard thing and to do it and be a prodigy at the same time is worse. Great job!

    Chapter 17

Someone else's perfect life is usually not so perfect. Interesting chapter and well-done!
  9. My Cardinals are now 1-1 with Waino having pitched in the home opener but we lost that game. I have been tied up with the wake and funeral of my uncle so I am looking forward to actually getting to see some games!

    Chapter 15

The life Micah is leading is taking a toll. While he realizes some of it, he is too inexperienced to realize just how much his socialization is lacking in real interpersonal relationships. It was a good job presenting a chapter that certainly had it's ups and downs just like life.
  11. "His April fools joke should not come as a surprise to anyone, I'm sure he will explain it on 4/2/13." All the while claiming it is really December 122nd......
  12. I did get the book cover, but you can scroll down and read a fairly lengthy 13 pages of the book....
  13. An April Fools birthday..... I bet you have had just about every trick anyone can think of played or attempted on you. At any rate, I hope your day is joyous yet mellow, filled with love and contentment from your family and friends. So have a very Happy Birthday and may you have many, many more!

    Chapter 14

Read the 14 chapters posted and love the story but really feel sorry for Micah.
  15. While you enjoy your spring break, please spend a little time, while being serenaded by the surf, daydreaming about George & his minions as well as the whole panoply of your CAP saga!
  16. All kidding aside, CJ is a living personification of a cliff hanging sort of person. And his work more than examplifies that attribute.

    Going HOME!

Take it easy and be careful! And isn't it great to be home? Best wishes for an uneventful recovery!

    Chapter 21

Two thumbs up! I sure hope Devon gets his life back together for Ace's sake! More please!

    Easter Update

Flying sucks! And it has gotten worse in the past dozen years. So I hear you. The idea of making board games based on chemistry topics is a cool way for them to retain things. Sounds like the kids will miss you after you relocate. I've been to Alaska a couple of times. It's wonderful from about May to October. The rest of the year not so much. Too dark for me. Also the older I get the more I do not like cold weather.
  20. The acquisition isn't expected to close for a while yet and if Amazon continues to operate the site pretty much as is (albeit I expect there will be links to Amazon to buy any of the books mentioned) the site should be ok as long as it is supported by people who actually like to read and review as has been the case in the past. I too think that Amazon is taking over the world but I have to admit I use them a lot and have gotten good service and value for my money. DDK
  21. Just read your story and loved it. Although some of our Southern friends might conclude it was just two more Yankees from Michigan and Ohio profiting from the defeat of the South. (Said with my tongue fully in my cheek!)

    Chapter 4

I drank beer in highschool. I can see where the youngster is coming from, but it's a team rule and rules have consequences that can be fairly onerous. Dean however fails to understand that he is putting Jason in a very uncomfortable role and even called him on it; repeatedly. Brothers! Been there and still there, I have 4 of them. So yeah I get where Dean is coming from and also from where the rest of the housemates are coming from as well. The funny thing is, that when I was in my twenties, they lowered the legal age for beer in most jurisdictions to eighteen and the rationale was that if someone was old enough to get drafted and go to war, they were old enough to drink. Less than a decade later, the drinking age was returned to twenty-one. The number of teenage deaths involving alcohol came down considerably after that. Maturity is not a straight line and doesn't occur predictably by age, but the results speak for themselves.
  23. You and your family remain in my prayers. DDK
  24. It has always been a dangerous world. The 20th Century saw the worst toll on humanity and the environment from war of any in human history. The 21st Century may eclipse that toll.
  25. Saw an article about this on NBCNEWS.COM. Loved the line about the joystick control. #!
