Another interesting chapter. I think most of the obvious and pertinent comments have already been made. Northman's attack about 'new money' was gratuitous and probably permanently solidified CJ's contempt. The withdrawn point clearly was an attempt to deflect blame. The travelogue was fun and informative as always. Thanks for sharing!

It was down to 5 F this morning and yesterday was down to 6 F with a high of 19. Today the high reached 26 F and the low tonight is a comparatively balmy 15 F. Normal high for this time of year is 39 F and normal low is 20 F. The weather and temps in the northern tier of states in the winter is why I live in the middle tier.

Without reading all the prior comments, I'm probably being repetitive but, Stephen Northman needs an attitude adjustment and the ambassador is perfect for the task. CJ's family is not just charming, but welcoming and not in just a superficial way. Probably one of my favorite chapters so far! Thanks for sharing.

Northman keeps stepping in the excrement failing to realize the smell is beginning to cling. At this rate no one in the embassy will want to work with him. A clear lack of situational awareness, not a good quality for a diplomat. Loved the short chapter!

Thanks for the usual January 1, chapter! I was hoping for it but was too busy to get to it until now. I was born in 1947 and the wife in 1948. We celebrated with a bottle of champagne last night and a pound of shrimp. We stayed home again due to the wife being confined to a wheel chair and the ongoing, seeming never ending, fourth or is it fifth wave of the Covid-19 pandemic. Today we had the daughter, son-in-law and grandson over and enjoyed their company, especially the grandson. Back to the story, I enjoyed the info about the parade and celebrations and the princess' reaction to the smoke and skeleton face paint. Next Friday seems an awfully long way away for the next installment!

Happy New Year to all GA members and visitors. Hopefully we can all make an extra effort to be kind and courteous this coming year. That alone would make it a better year.
