These fifty poems document the arc of a love affair from first contact to the budding of deep, mutual intimacy. However, one of them is not able to handle the feelings the other raises in him.

Twelve-year-old Simon stands in the play yard breaking his best friend's heart, and is doing it for all the 'wrong reasons' – reasons of fear-based bigotry and homophobia. He must decide whose side he is on, and remembers the school year as a series of ups and downs, and of joys and sorrows. One memory may be able to make him do the right thing after all, if he can accept its message.

Book 5 and final book in "The Trial", the series which begins with "Shadow Honor". The threads of eight hundred years weave together to form the tapestry, revealing the last secrets and the big picture all at once. Who will be the next guardian of the world, and what will the world endure before that occurs?
