Cozy Contemplations - 4. Sympathy

For the one left behind....

Sympathy

A bird calls

Outside my window

It's a sad sound

Relentless

Lonely?

Has his mate been stolen

By fate's twist

Or is he warning another

To stay away

From what is his

His nest

His home

His heart's desire

The life he's built

My own heart reacts

to the silence

Following each trill

Yes, I am convinced

He is alone

I am quite familiar

With the one-sided call

The keening

Of the one left behind

Thanks for reading. This is for those who are left to pick up the pieces in the aftermath of a loss.

Can totally relate...very touching indeed!! Beautifully written...

Thanks, Aviana... I sense through your own poetry and these comments that you have an old soul :) . It's not easy to be the one left behind, whatever the circumstance. It means so much to me to have your comments on my poetry... a wonderful thing to wake up to... cheers... Gary....

:hug:gary. even the word keening is mournful and hits those memory strings of our own past loss-no matter how long ago it was

Yes, moggy... keening is a word that says so much. There are some memories even time has no effect on. Even so, we have to pick ourselves up and move on... thanks for your comment... it is appreciated... Cheers... Gary....

Loneliness was one of the big factors in my decision to move to Thailand.  After coming to Thailand for many years, I realized that the Thai people are very much more social than we are in the US.  Going to the dentist, shopping, going to the hospital, involves going with a group of friends and/or scheduling appointments together.  The hospital rooms are set up for family visits with a couch, table and chairs for four people, a refrigerator for food, a microwave to heat food and other accommodations for family and friends getting together for a visit to the patient.

Your poem certainly rang true to me.  I also felt like this one might have been inspired by observations made during a walk thru your woods.  A very beautiful poem.

Thank you. A lot of my poems spring from those feelings we have upon awakening. I believe this was one of those. I often lay and listen to the sounds of nature through my windows... they open with just a fingertip, and let whatever thoughts I carried through the night, roam freely. The Thailand people sound wonderful... and welcoming. I'm glad you have found your home, Terry.
