Lyrical Laments - 9. Chapter 9 Melancholia

I'm fine.

Melancholia

Go ahead

Give it your best shot

You insidious encroacher

Try to take away my will

Cloak me with your dark pall

I’m not so easy

As you may think

I will not go quietly

Or succumb to your seductive wiles

No, I know you well… too well

And understand your ways

You start with a thought

Make me doubt

While little missiles interrupt

The pulses carrying reason

Disrupt the season

Of my content

Make my heart lurch

And my stomach sink

Robbing my energy bank

While you cloud my vision

Warping the image in my mirror

And distorting my perceptions

All while wearing your mask

Of deception

Yes, I’m wise to you

Your grip is tenacious

Your commitment strong

And your tendrils latch deep

But you’ve met your match

My determination is stronger

And I will prevail

Without pills

Even if I can’t see it at the moment

I know a beautiful world exists

And it belongs to me

It waits for me

And you may color it darkly

But your power is temporary

Impotent against my knowledge

Old friend, you are doomed

For your days can be counted

It’s only a matter of time

And I am a patient man

I can relate all too well.  I love how you acknowledge the dark, knowing it's temporary.  That patience is something that has to be learned.  It will get better.

Life has its ebbs and flows, as does the world itself. The moon... the tides... we follow suit. I believe it's in our DNA to handle the dark times. We just have to recognize them for what they are, and not fall into their trap. Hindsight has taught me what once appeared insurmountable, isn't.  That's not to say its an easy foe, though, because its not... thank you, Val

You just know the right words to say to make things come out right...and I may say that, when I needed a ray of sunshine two years ago, it was you who 'squeegeed' my windows so your light could shine in.  I'll never forget that, or let anyone else drken your lights if I can help it.

My dearest friend, my heat's ease, my fount of wisdom...

It was just as important for me, dear friend. If I helped bring you light, I am blessed even moreso. You are my friend, who happens to be a very sweet man. My squeegee will always be at your disposal, CG... thank you for the uplifting comment... cheers... G-Man.... XOXOXOXO

Beautifully written. I am well acquainted with the darkness or one of its siblings, sometimes time is needed to find oneself again and to build the strength to forge ahead again. The self awareness and challenge in your words  resonate...

Thanks, deville. Yes, biding our time can really help in some instances. It may be our biggest weapon when we recognize things will look better if we just hang in there. I'm glad you said 'challenge,' because that's how I've come to look at those times. I tell myself I can face it and win. I always do emerge victorious, sometimes sooner, sometimes later, but I never underestimate the darkness. I appreciate you weighing in on this one.
