Fates Mates & Pirates - 42. Chapter 42

Since I have been busy and will be away for a few weeks, uncertain of my ability to post stories. I combined two chapters into one. That way I wouldn't be able to use the dreaded To Be Continued... Enjoy!

We had the entire brood lined up to say goodbye to the Peter’s family as they boarded the shuttle back up to the ship. Bella and Tomas were assisting by holding a few of our youngest, with me and Adam holding the newborns. We did the same thing with Taylor and Mike. Using our kids as training for them. We started the evening bedtime ritual by herding the munchkins into the head and freshers. Youngest first. Adam and I worked it out in assembly line style. He would hand me a child, I would bathe and dry them. We would trade as he handed me a child to bathe as he put them in their jammies, putting them to bed before handing me another. We have it down to a science and can get everyone ready for bed in less than an hour as long as I’m not playing in the water with them. Although I felt like my skin was shriveled up by the time I was done tonight, it works well for us. The older they get, the less we need to do. Another 12 years and we will be golden. Tomorrow, after breakfast, we’ll be heading up to the mountains to go skiing. Our third time since we had been skiing in the Base, but the real snow of the mountains is a different type of skiing than our artificial ski slopes being shaped by the winds and storms of nature. I really don’t get enough practice regardless of the excuse. The team was, of course, ready and Planetary Security was ready for us too. I made it a point to task a member of our Security Team to swing through our favorite candy shop with a list of what was needed. Our favorite storekeepers were also apprised of our arrival and said they would add a few more items to their delivery to make sure they had enough supplies for us. We had been sending them a holopicture of us after every trip that they proudly display in their shop showing us enjoying one of the chocolate creations we purchase from them. It has caused them to increase stock levels after every purchase we make to accommodate all the people that come looking for, as they put it, ‘The finest couple with the Confederation’s finest taste of the season.’ Another was holopics of our family enjoying some chocolates titled, First Family of The Five Sectors enjoys the finest chocolates of the Confederation.’ Adam and I had a good laugh over that as we proudly display our holopicture of the four of us in our family room that was taken the first time we were in there together along with all our other holopictures taken with them. Marc’s hobby is becoming a who’s who of the Confederation that people are checking to see if they are there too when they visit.

The next morning, we were packed and said our goodbyes to the kids before we shuttled up to the mountains and our overnight in the Hanging Suites. Something we were looking forwards too. We arrived at the mountain just in time to take the first gondola up to the summit. As is always now, the mountain was closed to our visit, our team was almost alone in our ascent. Hiking out to the departure point after stowing our gear, we decided to take a nice leisurely descent this morning to warm up. Adam was all for it, as he knew I was not in practice. When we were skiing down, Adam was acting like he was chasing me as we descended. He would ski past me, then drop back behind me to do it again. A skier’s attempt at circling someone. I was laughing when we reached the bottom and he skied right into my arms for a kiss. Legs sore as I hadn’t been keeping up with my exercises as well as Adam had and suggested that our team could go again then join us for lunch down here before we skied this afternoon as we already had the private dining room reserved for that purpose. The other half of our security team, the non-skiers, were already waiting as we took off our skis and changed boots. I wanted to go shopping and visit our favorite chocolatiers today. Which he whole heartedly agreed to. It was pleasant in the village today. As always, the locals waved a welcome as we drove through. I always laughed. The village residents always knew when we were here and loved how it brought them even more business. I thought about it and discreetly tapped out a request to Ryan to see if he was available this afternoon. I could feel the absolute joy as he responded immediately. I whispered a plan to one of my Security Team who smiled a nod and dropped back to make the arrangements. After our shopping trip we had, which was fantastic as always. Henrietta and Louis had created a new chocolate that was just for us. Adam and I both loved it. We also picked up some of the kids’ favorites and a few selections for our friends. As always, we had several bags when we left and a host of new holopictures. We popped into Ogilbee’s Exotics too. Just to visit at first, but ended up picking up a few things for the kids and another rug that we both liked. As always, they promised to ship everything up to the ship for us. Lunch was another nice affair as several people joined us to say hello and catch up as we ate. Then we were off to the Gondola for our assent of the mountain. I got the nod from my Security Service member about my instructions and I smiled as I hugged Adam towards me, watching the rock face below as well as up and down the beautiful valley. There was no cloud cover today and tomorrow looked good, too. I couldn’t wait for tonight’s dinner. Bella, Tomas, the kids and surrogate staff were shuttling in to join us with some of our friends. All the other guests were informed of this fact and looked forward to seeing the First Family of The Five Sectors all together. We decided on that because we didn’t think it would be fair to just drop the kids on Bella and Tomas for two days straight.

We had another wonderful run down the mountain. This time, Adam and I looked like two mirror images of each other as we skied down, side by side. Once reaching the bottom, we both swung out to our respective sides and ended skiing into each other’s arms for a kiss again. Much to the delight of the onlookers as they applauded our embrace. Adam looked into my eyes and his face lit with joy as the sparkle increase 100 fold in those blue crystal orbs of his.

“Your eyes are glowing again, Marc.”

“Yes baby. Just for you.” I whispered before my lips touched his. “Always for you, my love.” I said as I pulled away and pushed back with my poles to unlock our skis from our embrace. “One more trip before dinner, love. Bella is coming with the kids and a few other people.” Adam’s eyes lit up again.

“I would love too Marc.” We headed for the area where our Security team was waiting for us to take our skis off, before heading for the Gondola where I changed out of my ski boots, into my hiking boots, then gathered up my gear. The Gondola ride was another spectacular 20 minutes of views as we ascended the mountain. Towards the end, I stood to look around the departure area out on the snowpack and smiled. Quickly turning another direction before Adam noticed what I was looking at as he moved behind me as he stood as well. His arms wrapped around me as I leaned back into him. His kiss on my neck was as welcomed as the rising of the sun. Always there for me no matter what, day after day. I closed my eyes and savored the feelings of his body next to mine as we lurched into the landing zone, stopping the Gondola. My eyes opened as he led me out to the path to the skiing departure area. Smiling, I handed my skis to one of the staff and followed Adam down the track. He turned and looked at me. His look turned disappointed.

“You’re not skiing with me.”

I smiled. “I am a little sore. Thought I had better fly this time instead so I could ski tomorrow morning.” His eyes lit up in that mischievous grin as he turned and hugged me.

“Chase me baby?” I let out a low growl only he could hear.

“Always my Mate.” He hugged me even harder before he turned and started us down the track again. I watched as the shuttle flew into the pad down below, grinning as I tapped out a few commands to my staff, before stopping to hug Adam and splitting off to meet my flight team.

Vinny was flying with me today as he pointed out Ryan with another customer. We both assembled the black Hang Gliders, but mine had the characteristic claws and jaws. “You're the only person who gets to fly this one. Our gift to you for all the business we have now.” Said Vinny as he hugged me tight. We have always made it a point to fly at least once every time we are here and their business did indeed increase. So much so, they had to triple what they were charging to keep the demand manageable. The other customer was pointing and talking with Ryan. Well, more like arguing with him. Which caught Vinnie's attention, too.

“Let’s go say hello to Ryan.” I said as I walked over. Two of my Security Service were right behind me. “Hey Ryan. How do the thermals look today?” I yelled as we got closer. They both turned to me. The client sneered as Ryan waved, saying.

“Looking good Governor Admiral. Welcome back to the mountain.” He stated formally to announce who I was as I closed in, before he gave me a fast, tight hug. The client’s eyes went wide as he saw me up close and realized I was indeed the Governor Admiral of the Five Sectors.

“Thanks for the Hang Glider Ryan. Adam and I appreciate the gift. If the two of you are ready, we could check the winds and thermals. It looks like the ski team is almost ready.”

“Are they going to run from you again, Marc?” I snorted.

“They could try. I don’t think so today. Adam might. That much I am expecting and the hovercams are up.” I said, looking up at the two hovering above me for emphasis. “So. Maybe.” My head cocked to the side as I said it. Ryan barked out a laugh and turned to his client.

“You might have trouble picking out your own prey.” I raised an eyebrow.

“Ahh. The Alexander package.” I said, while lifting one side of my mouth in a smile.

“My best seller after you have been here.” I smiled and nodded as I watched the skiers.

“And your mate?” I asked, as I turned back to his client.

“Yes Sa. We were just Bonded last Saturday.” My face lit up as I said.

“Congratulations.” I said as I pulled off my glove and stuck out my hand. Once he realized what I did, he followed suit, taking my hand in his to shake. “Ryan. Charge their cost to me please as a late Bonding gift.”

“Of course Marc.”

“And which person is it?” He pointed to the skiers.

“The Red with Yellow suit, next to the black and red.”

“Ah. It looks like Adam is talking to.” I said as I watched them waiting for him to provide the name.

“Robin. Sa.” I nodded my head before I turned to him.

“How about you call me Marc and you’re staying in the Hanging Suites?” His eyes went wide again. “Yes. Marc.” I nodded.

“Good Pierre. I have the kids coming with some friends to join us for dinner. Sit at our table tonight. I can introduce you both to Adam when we get to the bottom.” And the goldfish’s mouth moved slower, trying to gulp for air.

“How did you know my name? I didn’t introduce myself.” I smiled as I waved a hand at my two ever present Security types.

“My Security Service types are very thorough where I and my family are concerned.” They displayed their predatory grins as I spoke. Then I spotted one of our shuttles off in the distance.

“And our Marines are here too.” I said as I pointed. He turned his head and concentrated for a second before he smiled and looked back.

“Then I think we should be safe enough, too.” I laughed.

“I think so. Shall we?” I waved a hand at the valley below us. Ryan pulled up the tablet and started his thoughts as we looked on. I pointed out a few points. Ryan agreed they looked like the possible hitches in our flight, but said they were minor. We had very good thermals today and decent winds. I looked one last time as I adjusted my helmet and set the heads up displays. I also tapped in a code and connected to Ryan and Pierre. We walked back to our Hang Glider,

“Well done Marc. We always get a few that think they deserve to use this Glider.” I chuckled.

“Like there is a difference between them. You and Ryan are coming for dinner. Correct?”

“Of course Marc. Violet is coming too.” I smiled.

“The kids will be thrilled. What is she now, 15?”

“Yes. She’ll be 16 in two months.” I smiled as I tapped out another order into my Link. Smile broadening as the conformation came back immediately. Watching the skiers and saw what I thought would happen as the skiers changed jackets. I murmured a command to my helmet. A direct Link clicked open.

“Ryan. Pierre. They changed jackets again. I have both of them spotted. Do you want to handle it like last time?” Ryan took a minute to explain to Pierre what they were doing and how I was now tracking both of our Mates. That I would be able to tell them which way Robin went.

I smiled as Pierre said, “Let Marc lead and tell us where she went.”

“You catch that Marc? You’re the scout.”

“Copy.” I said as we hooked into the harnesses and I watched the skiers moving around, trying to make it hard for us to figure out who is who.

“They’re trying hard today.” Said Vinny on the group Link I created. “You have them Marc?”

“Of course.” I said as I signaled the skiers to go. We lifted up and Ryan followed suit, waiting as I watched. Then we saw them start to do wide arcs and try to mix up their people to make it even harder. I just smiled.

“Let’s go Vinny.” We started to run, and I lifted up as Vinny took us a few more steps and we were airborne. “Ryan, follow us out and around.” I said as we dove out, grabbing a thermal.

“Vinny, I am hunting. Watch our track, please.” “Got it Marc.” He said as they broke. The skiers split into four different trails. I laughed as I brought us around behind one group, then another, then another.

“Do you know Marc?” Asked Pierre.

“But of course. Adam is on the third track. Robin is on the first, off to the left. I am just making them think we don’t know.” I said as we passed over the fourth and pulled out, around and back behind them again. He laughed.

“OK.”

“Go for it. Chase that first track. She is the second person. I’m going to buzz them before I go over to the third track and chase Adam.”

“Thank you Marc. See you at the bottom.”

“Copy.” I said as we overflow Robin and her fellow skiers again before I swung back around and caught a thermal lifting us at a rather good pace. I rode it almost 110 meters up before I turned and dived down to zig zag behind Adam. He spotted me and tried to pick up more speed. I dove, coming across at barely 6 meters height before I locked into another thermal pulling around and up. I was on his tail again as he tried to run to another track with his team. Laughing as I dove down again in front of them and started to zig zag as they went back to the other track before pulling out again to get behind them yet again.

Adam

My monster is here. I thought as he swooped over us for the first time. Then I watched as he moved over the last team, then pulled out and around with the other glider behind them. He’s hunting. Both me and Robin. I bet the other peals off to chase Robin. I watched as he dived in again to one of the other teams. Starting to smile as I thought I had actually fooled him this time. Then, as the second glider followed down towards where Marc went, all of the sudden I heard it. He came down at around 5 meters above my head as he flew over, then pulled back around to get behind us. Laughing as I watched him. He was the giant predator bird, and I was his prey. Well. He has to catch me first. I made a command and the team direct Link opened.

“Follow me. I want to try going faster than cutting across to the other trail up ahead.”

“Go for it.” Said Lindsay as she bent down lower like she was racing. I smiled as I tried to pour on the speed until Marc buzzed me again and started to zig zag in front of us. Herding me to where he wants us to go. I smiled at my predator as I moved back towards the original track.

“He’s not going to let us into the trees, Adam.” Said Lindsay as she tried to get past me and take the lead.

“Yup. Let’s see if he loses the thermals. That’s our chance to escape.” I said, as she snorted.

“Not going to happen today Adam. Weather is perfect for them. He could hang out up there all day if he wanted.” I smiled as I thought about how much fun my monster was having.

“OK Lindsay. Let’s wait until we see what he does.”

“Copy that.” She said as she led us down towards a spot where we can again shift tracks.

Marc

I pulled around behind them and started zig zags again. I looked out to our left and behind us I saw Ryan and Pierre zig zagging behind Robin. I laughed as she tried to move away from them, and they followed. Watching Adam as I thought Lindsay took the lead and was making a good run.

“I bet she tries for the track to the right up here.” I said. Vinny laughed.

“Should we dissuade them of that notion?”

“I think we should.” I said as I dropped us down and headed over to them. I came in low again and slowed as I dropped us down around towards the new trail and started to zig zag. I looked back twice and saw she changed towards the center again. I pulled out and around, grabbing another thermal to climb again. I just laughed as I watched them. We were coming up on the bottom and I opened the Link to Ryan again.

“Bottom coming up. We are pulling up to let them land. Care to join us?” Ryan just laughed.

“Sure Marc.” I watched as they pulled out behind us. I took us out again and caught another series of thermals. Gaining almost 200 meters before they started to come into the skiers’ landing area. I worked out who was Adam and who was Robin as we circled.

“Do you know where Robin is, Pierre?”

“I think she is the 4th person from the left.” I looked and he might be right as I spotted Adam.

“OK. I found Adam and I am going to drop right down in front of him. Try to do the same for Robin.” They both laughed.

“OK. We’ll follow you in.” I dropped us down in a nice wide arc as I continued to look. I thought I saw Adam looking as we circled overhead, watching us. I took my last turn.

“I’m dropping in tight. Take another arc.”

“Copy that.” I dropped more and buzzed right over Adam from behind before I pulled a hard right turn and came around low as I pushed up to drop our speed. I was headed right for Adam and everyone was starting to back up as we dropped our feet, prepared to touch down as I bled the last of the speed off, dropping us to the ground running. Ryan and Pierre didn’t try our stunt but came in right behind us and they, too, were right on target for Robin. Then we heard the cheering.

Adam

My Marc doesn’t want to come down, it appears. I watched as he circled us after we had finished up our run. I had my skis off so I could run over and hug him. I’m still waiting as I watched him circle again. Then it looked like he made his decision as he dove in towards us. He came across from behind us and scared the crap out of some kids as he came 3 meters above our heads and pulled into a sharp turn, coming around right back at us. Or me, I should say, and he was moving fast. He started to slow as they dropped out of the hanging position and then he made a maneuver that looked like he just hit the brakes to stop as they dropped hard onto the ground running. It had all of us backing up at one point before they hit the ground. Then I was moving fast towards him as he popped the harness releases. I heard a bunch of kids clapping and yelling. I was laughing as I pulled him into a hug and swung him around mumbling, “Monster,” before I stopped to kiss him. Then all of the sudden we were surrounded by Marines and Security Service personnel as we got attacked by kids. Mark was laughing as he pulled away to grab two of them up and I grabbed another two.

“And who invited you guys to see this?” All the kids went quiet as they pointed to Marc.

“I did. Thought they could eat dinner with us tonight up top, then go back to the cabin.” He said with his smirk on.

“Love you, father.” I said, as he smiled.

“Love you more, Dad.” He said as he leaned in and kissed me. We got a chorus of, “Ewwws.” Mark pulled back and tried to kiss all of them. Which elicited a bunch of squeals. He put the kids down as Violet came over for hugs from everyone before she called all the kids together. Marc turned to help Vinny disassemble the hang glider and pack it up as I grabbed my skis and greeted Aunt Bella, Uncle Tomas, and everyone else. Once Marc had everything packed, he joined me in greeting everyone while taking Caleb from one of the surrogate staff. I took Faith from another staffer. Bella and Tomas held Elijah and Mackenzie. Violet had the attention of the older kids under control and following her. We headed for the Gondola station to return to the top for dinner. Thankfully, we had room for 65 people at once. We had 38 people in our own group. I sat and Bella handed Marc Mackenzie as a staffer took Elijah from Tomas. They mingled with everyone on the trip up. Bella brought Robin and Pierre over to introduce them to myself and Marc. Just as the Gondola approached the arrival station on the mountain. Marc smiled as they approached, but made no move to stand.

Marc

I just smiled at Pierre and his Bond Mate as they approached with Bella. Bella took Mackenzie out of my hands so I could stand as she introduced us to Pierre and Robin DuPont. That Pierre was one of the DuPonts of DuPont Systems. I dipped my head in greeting as I rose with Caleb in my arms, extending a hand to Robin.

“Congratulations on your Bonding.” I said, as she greeted me. I shook Pierre’s hand again as I asked. “Did you have a good flight?”

“I did indeed Marc. Thank you for your assistance.” I dipped my head again in acknowledgment as Adam snorted.

“You helped him.”

“I did indeed. An older Bonded Mate should help the younger, newly Bonded Mate in their quest to catch their Mate. I am somewhat of an expert in that field of endeavor.” Bella started to laugh as she patted Adam’s shoulder.

“He has you there, Adam. Perhaps you should tell them the story of your first date.” She said. Robin’s eyes had a twinkle as she looked at Pierre.

“I am getting the feeling there is a story behind the look that Robin just gave Pierre.” I said to the group in general with a smile as we docked on the Gondola platform.

“I believe.” Started Bella as she waved towards the door as everyone waited for me and Adam to move.

“That will be a story for dinner this evening or perhaps after the children depart with me.” Pierre blushed.

“I believe that it would probably be better for after the children leave. It will be quieter then and we have other guests coming as well. I believe Henrietta and Louis will probably be bringing a selection for the kids. That should provide entertainment.” I paused as Adam snorted at my words before continuing.

“Much like my Mate they inherited his coco monster genes.” Which made everyone laugh as he leaned into me as we walked. Our staff following out behind us. Bella excused us to get ready for dinner as the newly Bonded couple walk towards their suite talking to each other.

“Bella and Tomas. Could you join us in our suite as we change?” My head turned slightly to look at Violet.

“Violet, can you take the older kids on a fast tour and meet us back at the dining room in 30 minutes?”

“Yes Sa. I could do that.” I just raised an eyebrow at her. “Sorry. Yes Marc.” I smiled as we walked on and she headed off with the kids, personal guards in tow. I stayed silent, playing with Caleb, who just woke up. Adam was continuing to talk with Tomas and Bella.

Adam

We had just entered the suite and Marc asked for Caleb’s bag.

“Adam, go ahead. Hit the fresher fast while I change the kids.”

“OK. Be right back everyone.” I stepped into our bedroom and stripped out of my clothes before jumping in the fresher for a fast hot shower. I heard Marc start talking with Bella and Tomas as he changed Caleb. It didn’t take me long to get dressed in a decent outfit for dinner and I laid out clothes for Marc. I enter into our living area and found he had finished with Caleb and was changing Faith now. Cindy was warming up the bottles for the kids. Bella was already feeding Mackenzie and Tomas had Elijah.

“Your bottle feeding Mack and Eli tonight?” I asked.

“I thought for tonight it would be easier. Then I can just feed them snacks at the table.” Thinking about it for a minute.

“You’re probably right.” I said as he turned, handing me a bottle and Caleb.

“I’ll feed Faith and burp both of them, then shower fast and change.” I kissed his head.

“I laid your clothes out.”

“Thank you baby.” He said as he made faces at Faith. “Tell me Bella. What’s their story? Why are they here?” Marc asked. She gave Marc an appraising look before she turned to me.

“No wonder you can’t surprise him. He does this all the time doesn’t he?” Asked Bella, curiously.

I snorted, “Yes. I love him anyway.”

“Love you more.” He said as he continued to play with Faith while she suckled the bottle. Bella nudged Tomas. He looked sheepish as he turned to her.

“Just tell him, honey.” He took a breath as he turned back to look at Marc.

“Pierre is tired of his family. They don’t want to invest in any technology anymore. They haven’t for the past few years and now they are falling behind. He needs a new home where he can work on his ideas. Umm. He saw that shield you used in the Lynx Sector, and he wants to know more about it.” I watched Marc as Tomas spoke. He just kept feeding and making faces at Faith.

“I see. I will have to think about that.” He looked at Brian and he nodded back as he pulled out a tablet and started working. “Robin obviously wears the pants in the family. I am sure there is a good story coming tonight after dinner about that.” I smiled as Tomas looked shocked.

“One thing you will learn about, Marc. I had to learn it too. You have no idea who you are dealing with. He is my monster for a reason.” Marc smiled.

“Yes Adam. Your monster, for all eternity.” He paused as he put down the bottle. “I work very hard to maintain that image too, Tomas. Now stand by for projectile spitting.” He said as he moved Faith up onto his shoulder and stood moving and bouncing slightly as he patted her back gently. Bella and Tomas watched as he turned slowly. His head cocked to one side.

“Incoming.” He said and Faith spit up on his shoulder and back. Cindy came over and took her to clean her face as I handed him a towelette to clean up with before he reached down to take Caleb. “OK big boy. Let it rip.” He said as he patted his back and moved around like he did with Faith. “Good job Caleb.” He said just as he, too, spit up. I grabbed another towelette to clean up Caleb and Marc. I took Caleb to lay him down as Marc took off for the fresher.

True to my word, we walked into the dining room just as the kids did with Violet. Our other guests were just arriving with the Gondola as I took the children in tow to show them where they were sitting. Reminding them about manners and speaking quietly as we are not at home. I kept Elijah on my lap and Adam had Mackenzie. The staff had brought us out a selection of soft fruits for them to eat, along with some cookies. The kids went nuts as they saw what Louis and Henrietta brought. They were ecstatic seeing all the kids again. Adam and I had made them honorary grandparents years ago. I had Robin and Pierre sit across from us with Bella and Tomas. Ryan, Vinny, and Violet, as well as John Ogilbee, sat with us, too. We always like to visit with the people that made our first time here so memorable. Jasmine was talking to Ryan about hang gliding as I watched Lucas try to agitate Joachim. Adam leaned around me.

“Lucas. You start it, I will finish it.” His head jerked towards us. I just smiled. As Adam went back to talking about our chase this afternoon. Everyone in the village had heard about it. He was able to pull the DuPonts into the conversation as well. I looked back at Lucas and Joachim.

“You have been warned.” My tone was stern, but quiet. They both looked at me and talked to Violet instead of bothering each other. I chuckled as I went back to the conversation. Brian stepped in and held a tablet for me to read.

“OK. Excuse me for a moment, everyone. I have a little business I need to attend to.” Adam was going to take Elijah. I just shook my head no. “I won’t be long, dear. He’s fine. Thank you anyway.” He smiled up at me as I left the table to step out into the passageway with Brian. I read through the 6 pages and he held the tablet while I tapped out some orders one handed. Which I was getting pretty good at nowadays.

“Thank you Brian. Possibly after dinner I will need something else. You should come sit down to eat now. I don’t want to hear any complaints. I am not feeding you.” I said, as he smiled.

“You're always good to me, Marc. That’s why I work for you. You actually care about everyone that does.” I patted him on the shoulder before I pushed him into the room to find his seat.

Dinner was a nice affair, even if the kids had gotten a little loud a few times. It was nicer that Adam had taken my cue and was working on our newest friends to get them relaxed to talk to us later. I had checked the time and looked at Bella.

“I should send everyone back now so I can get the real story out of these two tonight before moonrise.” She giggled as she looked at Adam.

“Will you be able to ski tomorrow?” I snorted as he hit me again.

“Yes. I should be fine. Thank you very much, Aunt Bella.” He said as he shifted Mackenzie in his arms. I stood, as did everyone else. The staff rounded up the kids as I handed off Elijah after kissing him, then Mackenzie, and all the rest of the kids. Then said our goodbyes to all the adults as we walked down towards the Gondola. Our staff was waiting with Caleb and Faith. Adam and I took turns hugging and kissing both. Plus another round of hugs and kisses to the rest of the kids as the staff and our guests boarded the Gondola for the trip down. I turned and took Adam’s hand as I said to the DuPont’s.

“I believe that you and Pierre owe us a story this evening.” She smiled as she leaned into Pierre and they followed us to a comfortable sitting room with a real wood fire burning. Staff brought us some drinks as we relaxed. Robin started telling us the story. Which at the end actually brought them closer together with us. It was almost a reversal of ours. I went after Adam, Robin went after Pierre. Adam just leaned into my ear and muttered, ‘monster.’ I smiled as I kissed the side of his head.

“Now that was good. Come. Let’s go watch the moonrise.” I said as I lifted Adam up with me. I tapped out a fast message and a staffer stepped into the room with four jackets for us. Pierre thanked them as we put them on, heading for the door to the viewing deck.

It was another cloudless night. The stars twinkled above and the first signs of the twin moons could be seen over the horizon as I heard one of our shuttles coming up through the valley heading off to the cabin.

“Now that the formalities are out of the way. What do DuPont Systems have to offer me?” I thought Pierre was going to pass out for a minute before Robin whispered into his ear. He nodded, and I looked at Robin as they separated.

“Bottom line. DuPont needs new management. The current management doesn’t want to look forwards anymore. They seem to think everything is good enough, but it’s not. They are falling behind the technology curve.” She said as she held Pierre tightly. I nodded as I looked at Pierre.

“And what do you think DuPont Systems offers me, Pierre? You're the technical wizard. Tell me.” He just looked at me wide eyed for a minute. “I’ll make it easier. I am interested in your ship’s systems division. You are right at the point I need them, but they could be better. Their systems were state-of-the-art four years ago, but there have been no changes.” He just looked at Robin and smiled before he turned back to me.

“You are well informed, Marc.” I gave him a dip of my head.

“I am a Regional Governor. I need to keep up to speed on everyone and everything around me. As you, of course, saw my adjutant pull me out of dinner to handle something. That something was a summery report on DuPont Systems. Everything from what you do to how many orders you have. And they are falling. Did you know that?” He sighed.

“Yes Marc, I did. It started falling last year. You are actually part of the reason for that.” I nodded.

“Possibly as I am expanding in the Western Expanse.” He nodded before he sighed.

“What I need is for you to buy us out or merge us in. I need somebody that can not only make the decision to do the research, but who can afford to scattergun multiple projects at once. Someone who will take care of our people. We are losing some of our best and brightest employees.” He spread his hands. “Nobody seems to care. They only are looking at today. They need to be looking at next year, 10 years, 50 years out. No one wants to. The company is dieing. Everything my great great grandparents built is falling apart.” I moved and threw an arm across his shoulder, pulling him into a side hug.

“OK. I’ve already told my people to look into it.” Robin grabbed me in a hug as he leaned into me.

“Thank you, Marc Alexander-Knight. Bella said you would do something if you could.”

“We shall see once my people dig into everything.”

Robin and Pierre headed off to their suite, as did we. Adam leaned against me. “You’re going to buy it?”

“Possibly. If the price is right. If not, I’ll just lure him into the House and set him up in the research department.”

Adam kissed me, then whispered. “Can the monster come out and play in the moonlight?”

“Oh yes. The monster is going to shake the mountain top again.” He started moving us faster down the passageway towards the suite. My Link chimed. Giving it a quick glance to make sure it wasn’t about the kids, then I ignored it as I moved with my Mate. The first time we’ve been alone at night in several months. It didn’t take long before Adam had no doubt in his mind he was mine as we laid there in each others arms watching the twin moons as they made their way across the night time sky. We awoke the next morning to Adam pushing into me. 30 minutes later, we are in the fresher, relishing the hot water that cascades over our bodies. I smiled as we dried each other before grappling in a kiss that showed each other the love we had.

“We probably have a ton of work awaiting us this morning. I heard your Link chime three times last night.” Said Adam as he led me out to the bedroom to dress.

“I probably do. But our time together alone is more important than anything else. I will look before breakfast and see if anything truly needs to be looked into now. Otherwise, it will wait until later.” He pulled me into another hug and kiss before mumbling.

“I love you Marc Alexander-Knight.” I smiled as I touched his ring.

“And I love you Adam Alexander-Knight. For all eternity.”

Ten minutes later, I had finished dressing then grabbed a tablet to check the latest of the messages with Adam at my side checking his own. I smiled as I read the message from Jason. I put the tablet down and rested my head back on Adam, causing him to kiss the top of my head.

“What is it, baby?” He asked as I held up the tablet for him to see. He read the note from my uncle Fran and then what Jason sent us.

“What does it mean, Marc?” I sighed.

“It means that Uncle Fran believes they have lost the best people already. Some to us. And Jason says they have been badly managed the past 20 or so stanyears. The company has slowly eroded under Pierre’s grandfather and father. I would have to clean house, and Pierre is not the one to run it.”

“But Robin is.” I smiled up at Adam and he kissed my forehead.

“Yes my Mate. You are correct.” He thought about that before saying.

“Let’s go to breakfast, baby. Everyone is probably waiting for us.” I had already made my decision and tapped out a short order before we walked out of the suite. We entered and everyone was indeed waiting for us. I just frowned as I spoke.

“My apologizes Sa’s. I was detained with The Five Sector’s business. Please continue without waiting for us.” I said as I sat. The staff had set our favorite dishes in front of us as my Link chimed. I took a quick glance and then looked around to see Brian coming towards me, holding out a tablet. I read what he had and nudged Adam. He looked at what I pointed out, then looked at me with raised eyebrows.

“I guess you’ll need to stop in there on the way home.” I nodded.

“Possibly.” I saw Robin and Pierre whispering back and forth before they turned to me. “How are the two of you getting home?” I asked. They looked at me strangely, and then they realized.

“We brought a small Jump Shuttle.” I nodded as I tapped out a few commands. A moment later, I had the answer I was looking for. I tapped out some orders before looking up at them.

“Good. After lunch, you can follow us back to the cabin to say goodbye to Bella and Tomas while we collect the kids, and then you can dock your shuttle on Phoenix Rising. I should be able to get the two of you to your Board Meeting on time. If not, we will be fashionably late.” They looked at me again, slightly confused.

“Yes Robin. You should be at the Board meeting. As will I, since I have taken a personal interest in this project. For reasons we will discuss at a later point in time. For now.” I sat back. “The Alexander-Knight House has an interest in DuPont Systems that we intend to explore further.” I looked at Adam. “Only one ski run today for me, baby. You can stay for two if you want. I’ll take Joachim, Jasmine, Lucas and little Bella with me. We’ll be about two days behind you returning home.” He leaned over and kissed me.

“Sounds good, love. Shall we take a nice leisurely run down the mountain then?”

“Yes Adam. I think that would be enjoyable.” I took his hand and reveled in the heat it conveyed to me as we stood to join the others on the ski slopes. I nodded for the staff to go ahead and start transferring our gear to the shuttle below.

We made a nice slow run, side by side, enjoying each others company all the way to the bottom. I am sure that Adam would have loved to go faster, but I am still learning. I believe I did better than yesterday at least. We once again slid into the base area face to face so we could kiss. Adam was both happy and sad that this would be our only run together. I had also decided to head up to the cabin early to help get the kids ready and transfer up to Phoenix Rising. I would be there when the DuPont’s join me for our trip to their Sector. I said my goodbyes to everyone as I headed for the shuttle I had called down just to deliver me. When I returned to the cabin, everyone was surprised.

“You’re back early, Marc. Is everything alright?”

“Yes. I just need to get the kids ready to travel, as we are now on a schedule. Adam will be followed back by the DuPont’s so they may say goodbye before they follow me up to the Phoenix Rising, for the trip out to their Sector for a Board meeting.” I said as I gave her a quick hug and prepared to be surrounded by my kids. They have learned that the best way is to just group hug me or they have to wait while I hug each individually. I smiled as I nodded to their Security people and they were released. Bella laughed as they attacked. Joachim, being the oldest, led the way. I dropped to one knee and opened my arms for them.

“Hi Father. Where’s Dad?”

“Hello to all of you, and your dad will be here after lunch.” I said as I stood. “Slight change in plans. The four of you can come with me, but we have another stop on the way back to where I am working. I don’t want you to be bored, so if you would rather ride home with Dad, that’s OK.” I chuckled as they all said they would ride with me on the big ship.

“It’s a Dreadnought or call it by its name. Phoenix Rising please.

“Yes Father.” They all said together.

Bella nodded in appreciation. “You both do so well with them.”

“It’s a work in progress.” I said as I led them towards the cabin, telling the staff what was going on. They split off to start the packing as I checked in on the younger kids. Helping with the feeding of Caleb and Faith as Bella and I talked.

* * *

I was standing with the kids in the forward bubble of my shuttle as we approached the Hangar Bay of Phoenix Rising. I had the DuPont’s land first so the kids could watch as we made our approach. We had cleared the Force Field as we entered the hanger and Lucas pointed out the Marines.

“Look. Sergeant Major Thompson is here.” I smiled down at him.

“Very good Lucas. Remember to walk when we depart the shuttle and you go to say hello.” Joachim looked up at me.

“Father, can we salute as we exit the shuttle?” I smiled again. They had seen me do it a few times and wanted to do it too. We spent some time learning and practicing before we let them. It was comical the first time as the Lieutenant in charge called for a salute in return. The 28 person Honor Guard snapping off a salute had frightened them and they grabbed onto Adam’s and my legs, almost tripping me. I had everything I could do to not start laughing at them.

“Let’s practice first.” I said as the shuttle touched down and I could see the Honor Guard moving briskly into position as Pierre and Robin stood watching with a few of our Security Service personnel. Joachim made the order to hand salute as all the kids stood ramrod straight and slammed their right fist over their hearts. I gave a dip of my head.

“Very good, everyone. Yes. You may salute.” I said as I turned them to head for the shuttle hatch as everyone was waiting for us to depart.

Tones sounded piping me aboard House Actual Arriving, as I stepped out off of the ramp onto the Hangar Deck. I saluted the Honor Guard as they saluted me. I dropped my salute as the kids had formed up on the ramp and stepped off. To the spoken sound of Alexander-Knight Family Arriving throughout the hangar. I could hear Joachim order the hand salute as they walked through the two ranks of marines in front of me. The Marines returned their salute as I stood by the Major and Sergeant Major. They both smiled as they welcomed me back aboard, then turned to the kids, welcoming them as well. Before they turned with me as Captain Olivia Peters welcomed me aboard as well as the kids who hugged her too. I told everyone we would get underway as soon as we were secured here before taking the kids and staff up to our quarters. Robin and Pierre were there waiting as we arrived.

“Very nice arrival Marc. That was the House arriving.” Asked Pierre.

“Yes. I wasn’t planning on acting as Governor Admiral, so to shorten my arrivals, I just use either title, depending on the mission that brings me aboard.” I said. Robin thought for a second as she nodded.

“For this you are Admiral Alexander-Knight of the Alexander-Knight House, or is it Alexander-Knight Interstellar Industries?” I smiled.

“Gets confusing, doesn’t it? This is a House mission. I rarely actually get involved in the main corporation unless I see something that would benefit them that would require my presence.” She nodded again.

“You’ve built your own corporation within the corporation and let them ride with you, without having to deal with the main corporation itself. You’re what. 80 percent of the corporation as a whole now?” I actually had to work that for a minute.

“Yes. Something around those numbers. I am almost at my limit on how far I can grow. We might make changes to that in the future. There is a plan to do just that if I feel the need. I just don’t right now. I’ve reached the size that my current staff can handle easily now that we have everything in order. It was rough the first year.” She nodded in understanding.

“It’s exactly what we need, Pierre. They have the power to protect us, the funds to finance us and the desire to push forwards on the technology.” Robin said. He nodded as he looked at me.

“I talked to Francis Campbell a few years ago. We’ve stayed in contact and he suggested I talk to you last year. I just couldn’t figure out how to do it. That wouldn’t look like we were drowning.” He said quietly.

“But you are. Or have been slowly for the past twenty years. The water just started rising faster in the last few years. I will say this. The decision is yours. I will offer what I think DuPont Systems is worth to us. I will clean house and make changes. One of those changes is to put Robin in charge. I will send in a merger team to bring you into the fold, as it were. They will teach you and provide you with the resources to do what I want done. Do you understand that everything I do is to better the people under me so that we can do more than before?” They both nodded. “I have been and will be continuing to push my research and manufacturing hard.” I paused as Jasmine came and sat on my lap, snuggling into me as I kissed the top of her head. They smiled at her as I continued. “I have plans that run out over 100 stanyears. With that comes 1 year, 5 year, 10, 20 and so on yearly plans. We are increasing our population in The Five Sectors because I reeled in corporate greed, increased jobs and opportunities while providing security. I added heavily in training, which is paid for by the contracts I created for mining my ‘Private Reserves.’ those contracts provided the basis for funding a lot of projects in the last 10 stanyears which are just starting to come to fruition. Our credit base is expanding nicely and under my Governor’s Board I can ride herd on career politicians, keeping them in check. Because of that, we don’t have the level of corruption in our Region that can be found elsewhere. It is causing more corporations to want to build within our borders. Some of that is because of those mining contracts. The ore has to be processed in the ‘Reserves’ whether it is one of my facilities or one we built for them. More now, because we can provide the highly skilled workforce. More jobs, more products, more people, more opportunities means more income for The Five Sectors. We may be one of the richest regions in another 20 years. With that comes the need for protection. I handle that myself and with the CONFED Navy. Again, it was a little rough the first year, but now everyone knows we don’t play games and we are very capable in a fight if we need to be.” I heard a sniffle that made me feel Jasmine’s head and frowned. I tapped out a message on my Link and a minute later Wanda arrived motioning for Jasmine’s guardian to follow her. I kissed her head again as I said.

“Can you run her down to sickbay and have them check her out? Feels like she is running a fever.”

“Of course Sa Marc. She didn’t look herself on the way up. Probably caught a cold.” She said as she had her guardian lift her out of my lap. I Comm’d down to sickbay to let them know she was coming before I returned to my conversation with the DuPonts.

We went over ideas and thoughts as I listened to their responses as we ate dinner. They were amazed at how good and quiet the children were.

“That’s because I told them that if they came that this was a working trip, not a vacation, which they just had.” I took a moment to look down at Jasmine. 30 minutes in the autodoc and she was as good as new. Obviously, she felt me looking at her and leaned into me.

“I’m good father. Thanks.” I kissed the top of her head and went back to our conversations. We had called it a night as I wanted to spend time with the kids and Comm’d Adam. We would be at the DuPont’s in 3 hours. I figured we would just get a good night’s sleep before I joined them tomorrow morning. Robin and Pierre had decided they would shuttle down on arrival and meet me in the Hangar in the morning when I arrived. Jasmine rode on my back as we headed for their bedrooms for the night. We spent an hour in their lounge playing before I sent them off to the fresher for a quick shower. Once everyone was changed and in bed, I went over to my cabin to drop on the couch. I worked through a few messages and reports before I Comm’d Adam.

Adam

“Hello baby. How are the kids doing?” I asked.

“Jaz had a touch of yuck and spent 30 minutes in the autodoc. She’s fine now. The rest were good little diplomats, just as you taught them to be. Have you read the documents that Jason sent over?” Marc asked. I rubbed a hand over my face.

“Yes. Do you think it’s a little too much?” He thought about it before he responded.

“No. I think we can handle it. Credit wise it would be tight for a year, maybe two. It should be alright. The Ice Mining Contracts are about to open up in 2 months. That would alleviate that as well as the Moon Mining.”

I took a moment to review those contracts. Marc had decided that the Mining Contracts had to be almost 18 percent of our mining in The Five Sectors. The Ice Mining and Moon Mining contracts, written with the same restrictions as the Asteroid Mining Contracts had only been available for a maximum of 10 percent of what was calculated to be available. And no one was allowed into the wormholes in our Sectors but Marc’s trained teams. It had taken years, but now they travel all over the region searching for wormholes to exploit. Around behind closed doors, they are considered the best in the business when it comes to getting the most out of them. My own contributions to the manufacturing side are also bearing fruit.

“You could be right, but the Governors might give you trouble over that use of funds.”

He laughed, “They might until I remind them that I am the one who decides if the contracts are to be started or stopped. They still remember how the original Mining Contracts paid for all the wonderful things in the beginning that brought all the people and businesses to our Sectors.” He had that predatory smile and I had to admit. No one knew about the new contracts and will not until they started to mine.

“They probably wouldn’t hold their hands out for more credits, but instead wait to see what we build next.” I smiled as I asked.

“Are you going to send me the contract to look over tomorrow?”

“Of course. I need your eyes on it. After that is taken care of, I am going to take the kids on a shuttle flight while we head home.” Said Marc happily, even if we lost our time alone. I am getting the feeling that he is going to close the blast doors again when he gets back. He does that occasionally when he wants absolute alone time with me. He always does it when the kids are in classes.

“Then I will see you when you get back. I assume you are closing the blast doors again.” His smile is growing even larger as I spoke.

“I do have a reputation as a monster to maintain.” I saw the flash of predator before he switched to the sweet, innocent look he likes to think everyone believes.

“Of course, my beloved monster. I will let you go so you can get some sleep. I don’t want you too tired when you arrive.”

“Love you too, Adam. Until we meet again, my mate.”

“Until we meet again, my monster.” His smile conveyed it all as he said.

“Yes Adam. Your monster. For eternity.”

I closed down the tablet about an hour after talking with Adam. I was heading to bed when I detoured to pull out one of my dress uniforms, then looked over at my armor. With puckered lips, I shook my head no at the armor. The full five stars and my decorations should be enough to convey the impression I wanted. Setting it out for the morning as I turned to head for the fresher and a hot shower before bed. Waking at 06:00 hours, I dressed and headed for the kids’ rooms. Quietly, I started to pick out what I wanted them to wear as they went down to the station with me. Their team was going to take them shopping after going to the recreation area for a while. I would, of course, be in meetings. Brian had already confirmed that Jason was here and Adam would listen in on a secure Link. I was happy about that. If he didn’t have to go back home to attend to our businesses, I would have had him here with me. Our youngest wouldn’t be able to come, but our older children could. They all knew we were teaching them how to handle different situations. Joachim even asked one day if any of them would take my job.

My shrug and my thoughtful expression were followed by, “All of our children may do whatever they want in life. You are not expected to take over the House or anything else.” He smiled as he hugged me.

“What if one of us wants to?”

“Then you probably could, but you have a long time before you need to worry about that, though.” I said as I sent him on his way while I went back to work. Pulling myself back out of my memories. I smiled as I pulled out the proper clothing for my children to wear on their latest adventure. Yet another story to tell their friends. It was 06:30 when I snuck back out of their rooms and joined the staff in their dining area to discuss today with them before they wake the kids.
