Just some words - 5. Summer rain

It rained today ...

I’m feelin’ like

a kid again dancin’

in the summer rain face upturned

as fat drops splatter down drippin’

from my over joyed grin

wet to the skin

I splash

through mud puddles

and fall laughing to the

soggy grass, then dash fast for the

house as the thunder rolls overhead

inside I think again

of summer rains

long past.

To be a child again, to throw off the cares of the world if only for a bit.

This makes me long for warm summer rain. I remember when my kids were little, dancing in the rain was one of their favourite things to do. Thank you for bringing those memories back :)

As a kid I grew up on a street that was only a block long but had over 100 kids aged 18 or under. There was an awesome amount of laughter and splashing during those long ago summer rains. Thank you for reading my simple words.

OMG.... did you ever take me back! I've always had an affinity for the rain. It was our air conditioning on hot summer days... something to be celebrated, rejoiced, and enjoyed... you captured that so well... thanks buddy, for reminding me I have happy childhood memories mixed in with the others... cheers... Gary....

You paint such vivid pictures with your words and always transport me to the places you describe. Seemingly simple words, but in reality so full of true emotion and meaning. That's not an easy thing to do.

Nothing looks greater than being a kid in the rain. And nothing looks greater than this poem to give the situation an emi(the breath of life... :gikkle: ). Such a wonderful poem... :D

 

Summer rain, I haven't seen them this year in my town. But I myself waiting for the first rain of the monsoon. Soon. Lovely poem Dugh... :)

It actually did rain here this morning and I danced, something I haven't done for a very long time ... then the words began to flow and simply became this. I'm glad that my words carry you to the places I see. Thank you for taking the time to visit and comment.

ah, my poetic lovely friend.. this is wonderful. What a beautiful scene you've painted... it must be wonderful to have memories like this. You make me feel what you felt .. and such fun to run from the threatening storm .. Your words maybe simple, like cotton thread, but you're an extraordinary weaver ...

Thank you tim. That you like my words, my simply woven threads means so very much to me. The childhood memories are wonderful but this one was freshly made this morning as I danced once more in childish delight in the falling rain. Namaste.

We used to sail "boats" really any old stick we could find down the gutters. It really was such a simple time. I'm glad my words could take you there again if only for a while. Thank you for reading and your support.

I had to laugh a lot at this poem. Not about the puddle jumping, mud skating and flicking water at my brother with a stick. My first thought was about Songkran, the Thai New Year celebration.  It has been stopped for 2 years now by Covid.  However, it is a three day water warfare everywhere.  If you want to stay dry, stay home.  Young kids to great grandmothers delight in getting everyone wet that walks outside.  Anything you value must be wrapped in at least two baggies to be safe.
