Chapter 7
Rayne
You know I just had to see where Brandon works. I know he’s a divorce lawyer, but I’ve never actually seen a lawyer’s office up close…hopefully I’ll never have to. But I’m gay so I never will.
“Well Brandon,” we’re riding in his convertible on the interstate, “what am I supposed to expect at your job?”
“I don’t know…what do you want to expect?”
“People running around, your secretary getting you coffee, bitches screaming at their men. Hey, if anything I can laugh at that all day.”
“Well…most of that does happen, but other things happen too. Like…signing documents, reading them…”
(Stop staring at his body, stop staring at his body, stop staring damnit!)
“Yo! Rayne, man you ok? You zoned out on me there for a second”
“What? Oh, yeah I’m fine. Just thinking.”
We were silent for a little while, when he started laughing for no reason.
“You know, Jodi called me the other day.”
“For what?”
“She was trying to guilt me into getting back with her. She’s just mad because ‘put her’ on the streets. I know she went to go live with one of her girlfriends. She’s fine, and it ain’t ever going to happen between us again.”
(If only something could happen between us.)
“Hey, if I have anymore bad luck with women, maybe I’ll start going after men. Heh-heh.”
“What do you mean by that?”
“Nothing, don’t worry about it.”
We were quiet until we pulled up to his job. We walked into the lobby when he put his hand on my chest.
(Is he trying to tease me? No! He straight! But after the things he just said, I’m not sure anymore.)
“Wait here. My secretary is a really big fan of your’s, and she doesn’t know that you’re here. Or that I know you for that matter. Just wait for your cue.”
He went around the corner as I said, “Uh…Brandon, what exactly is my cue?”
Too late.
“Hey Denise…” I heard Brandon’s voice from around the corner, “I have someone here that wants to meet you.”
Some woman’s voice joined his. “Oh really, well who is it?”
“I guess that’s my cue. Hi, I guess your Denise?”
The look on her face was priceless. Mouth agape, forming incomprehensible words, eyes wide as Brandon’s finely toned ass. Okay…time to get off of that.
“Oh…my…God! It’s Rayne! Brandon! How do you know him?!”
“I’ve known Rayne since college. Been best friends ever since.”
“But you never told me you know a superstar! Let alone Rayne!”
“Yeah, well, you never asked if I did. Listen, I have to go make a quick phone-call. So you two just talk until I get back ok?”
I said, “Don’t worry about us, we’ll be fine.”
She said, “So, how did you meet Brandon?”
“Well, it was actually on my first day to college…”
Flashback 5 years ago
“Where the hell is building 5?”
Then this guy comes up to me.
“Hi, names Brandon. Need some help?”
“Uh…yeah, could you show me where building 5 is?”
“Sure thing, it’s just over there. I’ll walk you over there since I have to go by there anyway.”
There was a feeling I had that I would be seeing him a lot more from now on.
End flashback
“And that’s how we first met.”
“Wow. Good story. And from those humble beginning’s you are what you are now. If I wasn’t a lesbian, I’d be all over you.”
“Well that’s awkward. Listen, if I told you something, would you promise not to tell Brandon?”
“Sure thing, what is it?”
“Look, I may not know you very well, but I would feel better telling a stranger this than Brandon, at the moment. I’m gay.”
She sat back in her chair, a sat quietly for a moment.
“So you’re gay then? Surprisingly, I’m not a bit affected. So what, you act like it’s such a bad thing.”
“Yeah, but if I told Brandon or the general public, they wouldn’t like or love me anymore. I’m not sure if I could if I could handle that right now.”
“Well, you’ll know the right time to tell Brandon, and the world, what you really are. But if you are anything like Luther Vandross or Elton John, people will still love you.”
“Yeah…hopefully they will.”
Brandon came out of his office looking very happy. “Well my boss said we could have the day off Denise. You could go home if you want to.”
“Well I have some shopping to do across the street. I call my ride in a few though. Nice talking to you Rayne. Oh…” she pulled out a piece of paper and a pen out of her pocketbook. “Could you sign this for me? So I could tell people that I know you?”
“Sure thing.” I signed the paper, “Here you go.”
“Thanks. I’ll see you on Monday Brandon.”
“Bye Denise. Well Rayne you ready to go back home? We could go to the club later on tonight.”
“Sure, let’s go.”
At about 10:00 that night, we were at the club. Him in a form fitting black outfit. Me in a white tee and blue jeans, just trying to look inconspicuous.
Pretty much Brandon was flirting with a lot of women and me just sitting down watching him. It’s funny cause all the women were going towards his slowly getting drunk ass, and none were coming towards me. But hell, I wasn’t complaining.
We went home around 1:00. Me dragging his ass out of the club, and me driving us home.
“Rayne I have no luck with women. Look at you, havin’ all the ladies come at you. Trying to get past your security guards.
“But look at me, drunk, divorced, and I haven’t gotten off in weeks.”
We got back to his house then, and I dragged him to the door, unlocked it, then dragged him to his room.
“Could you ‘elp me Rayne?”
Even though I hadn’t had that much to drink, I still had a buzz goin’.
“Wit’ what Brandon?”
“Help me get off Rayne, just this once?”
My brain was telling me no, but my body said yes.
The next morning, my ass and head were throbbing, and I see him beside me laying on his stomach.
I thought to myself, (What the hell have I done?)
