Featured Story: Napowrimo

Whoops! I forgot that I was supposed to Renee this week and was sidelined by a migraine, so this featured review is a bit late... which just goes to show that, unlike Mikiesboy, I could never remember to do NaPoWriMo. Unsure of what that is? Check out the review below by Aditus and then go check it out!!

Poetry. I thought I would put the word right into the first line, in case you’d rather leave, thinking something along the lines of ‘Nah, poetry is not my thing’. I dare you to read further!

April is National Poetry Writing Month (NaPoWriMo): Thirty poems in thirty days. According to the author, his first thoughts were: Mental! NO WAY am I going to try it (too much pressure).

Luckily, he had nothing else to do (his words), and wrote a poem for Friday April 1, and then, while he was at it, for the other twenty-nine days too.

Are you still here? Good!

AC Benus said: You have metre beating in your blood, and poetic insight flashing behind your vision.

I can’t agree more and could go on and on about syllable count, rhythm, rhyme and many other formal poetry characteristics and forms, which Mikiesboy executes well but are just a means to an end to make us feel. He is a natural poet who concentrates of the essence of things—sometimes with brutal honesty. I will never forget Meat: Short— and so harsh it hurts. Or Baker Boy, which makes me smile each time I read it. For me, this collection of poems is a reflection of heartfelt loneliness and hope, grief and thankfulness, severity and playfulness, in other word(s): Life concentrated in small packages.

So, even if you normally don’t read poetry, give it a try. If you do, but somehow missed this, I hope I made you curious. And if you already read it—why not do it again?

Yes! Read tim's poetry! I sometimes come away from it like a bird caught in a game of badminton; tousled, dizzy, a bit of pain but what a view!

So read it!

Poetry is not my thing, but my awesome namesake's poems - those few I have dared to read - gripped me where it hurts :pinch: but at the same time he makes me smile through tears.

tim (not Tim) is in a class all by himself as a poet. It comes naturally to the man, and if you read one of his, you'll have to read them all. I still remember the impact he had on me with the first thing of his I ever read. It was a poem called 'Seventeen,' and it led to 'Escape'... the sheer and brutal honesty had me awash in tears... I've never forgotten the feelings they evoked. This is a terrific review for NaPoWriMo, but don't deprive yourself of any of tim's (Mikiesboy) gems. Cheers....

Gary.. what can i say again, but thanks. i hope people start to read poetry.. yours, mine.. whoever. It's such a wonderful thing, says so much and with emotion and heart.  Thank you for your kind words, Gary. I'll never forget what you've done for me..

Wow, Adi, thanks for doing this. I know you'll make Tim's day :)

Thanks to Cia for posting it as well :)

As for the poems, everybody should check them out, and how wonderful to have a poetry-based review come out! Bravo

AC.. mentor, teacher, friend.  You have been a wonderful supporter of me and my poetry. And all poets on GA. You've given us a poetry course and you help I don't know how many poets who need support and feedback. You're brilliant and patient!  Thanks for everything.

All I did was fall for a fellow poet's voice... one that deserves to be heard by the multitudes... don't ever mess with it... it is special... perfect... xoxo

Oh, this is fantastic! tim's poetic voice deserves a wide and wider audience; his honest and thought-provoking pieces inspire and bring the reader right into the moment. There is no way to be numb to tim's work, I have never failed to catch the intensity of feeling that drew me to poetry in reading his poems.

Gosh, thank you Parker. I appreciate all of your support.

I hope people start to read everyone's poetry.. and if they write poetry come and join the Live Poets forum. Or if you read and have questions.. come and ask.

Congratulations on the feature, Tim! :D  NaPoWriMo was very popular this year, and I'm so happy so many people decided to participate.  I really enjoyed reading these, as I do all your poetry.  It is not an easy feat to complete 30 poems in a month, so kudos to you.

Well, gee, I don't think I can top the accolades already expressed, but I must say this. I read everyone of these poems and am impressed by tim's efforts beyond measure.

If you haven't read his Napowrimo entry, please do, you won't be disappointed.

Congrats to you tim to have your work achieve Featured story status. I am delighted for you but not surprised in the least - you are just that good!

Congrats on the feature tim... and poetry too! So awesome!

I agree with everyone. Reading tim's poetry is an experience which involves the heart and mind, and sometimes the funny bone as this set in the NaPoWriMo will show.

Even if if you feel poetry isn't for you I urge you to read these, you won't be disappointed and you will come away with some form if satisfaction. Check out his other work too..

What a wonderful review, Addy! Tim, (Tim M), I keep telling you, Addy's gonna take your job away from you! :P

I haven't read Tim's NaPoWriMo, but now I want to because of all the wonderful things everyone is saying about it. :) I've read some of Tim's earlier work, and what I read really touched me. I'm sure it'll be the same for his poetry.

Congratulations on being featured, Tim! :)

Drew no worries. Napowrimo is a fun challenge ... and kinda rough for me because my sweet dog died at that time. So I wrote about him a few times. But i'm sure glad I did.

Thanks for your support Drew!
