Possible GA 2010 gettogether

Linxe Termoil

Recommended Posts

So. I'm starting this topic because I'm interested in meeting some of you folks from GA. I'm also sure some of you are interested in meeting other folks.

I was thinking of a get together in 2010 in Las Vegas during Labor Day Weekend. I know that that may be a bad time for some of the folks due to college starting, etcetera.

That's why I have started this post. I'm game for most anything next year during the summer, be it anywhere. (I really want to go to Las Vegas again though), so, I am starting this post to see who is interested and who thinks they might be able to make it.

Let me know. Please reply here so I have an idea and can get numbers together.

Regards,

Linxe T.

I'm also willing to go for anything not Labor Day weekend. Like I said, I'm open to anything during the summer, I just need dates/times etcetera that are good for everyone so I/we can attempt to consolidate the best numbers/dates and get the best deal available.

Thanks

I was planning a trip to NYC. But maybe WE (Tiff) can come to vegas instead =P Maybe summer would be best though.

You still have to go to NYC at some point! It will be sooo fun. I agree that summer is best though, a lot of members here are in school still and some people start before Labor Day. And Labor Day could be a hectic time to travel since it's a holiday. Although I went to Cali this past Labor Day weekend and the flight was mad cheap and wasn't bad at all.

I need to work more in order to accrue vacation time, but I love Vegas and hadn't been in a year or so and it's time to go back!

Viva Las Vegas!

I have to admit the thought scares the hell out of me. I mean I am a Valley Girl!!! Cardiff is a big scary city to me. NYC is the end of the earth and as for Las Vegas... I think I would just about die of fear... let alone my terror of flying (and that is a VERY real thing for me). I am going to need some promises of stiff whisky and big strong men making me feel safe when I get there.

Haha. Okay, what do you all think of the middle of summer, like in July, then? I was thinking Las Vegas because Benji is there, Joe Smith said he had wanted to go (he turns 21), and Tarin was down. I'm not going to speak for them now as they haven't responded to this post, but that's what gave me the initial idea. Also, I wanted to see some real bars again, lol. Plus, plenty of entertainment to be had by everyone, not just poker machines. My only concern is if people under the age of 21 want to come, so I think I'll throw out some alternative locations.

Somewhere in California. (Disneyland anyone?)

San Francisco/ San Diego

Hawaii (Really expensive but it's fun, and I want to meet the Bounty Hunters)

Seattle

Colorado

Uh..Florida anyone?

NYC (Expensive, I'm afraid of being mugged though)

Lincoln Nebraska anyone? (okay, no one say yes, there's nothing to do here, really)

Or, we can go to missouri and do the worlds of fun oceans of fun thing, lol.

okay, those are just some thoughts.

Any other thoughts? We can have a poll later.

Still game for Las Vegas.

Depending on when it is, I'm down for it. I'm going back to San Francisco in February for a week or so, so as long as it's not directly after that, I should be able to make it.

Shoot for a late July early August?

You make a good point about the under 21 thing. It would be bad to exclude anyone because of their age. Vegas has a great allure to it though because of the awesome shows. I'm a fan of the cirque du soleil.

I'd like to go anywhere to meet up with people from GA. It's more about the company and visiting a new place that's real exciting. You had some good suggestions, Linxe. I think the frontrunners would be California, NYC, and maybe Florida. I used to go to Florida often, but it's more about the beaches. Hawaii was fun, but expensive, especially if you want to sightsee a lot or try water activities.

NYC will definitely add up for sure. But don't worry about getting mugged. It's not as dangerous as you think at all, we just get a bad rap because the news likes to report everything that goes on there. I'm in Queens and we're kind of ghetto and I never got mugged or attacked while coming home late off the trains. And if that's the meeting place, we'll be in large numbers!

I'll protect you, lol.

Come to Europe! We can drink from 18... ;) London, Paris, Venice...! there's plenty of nice places! ;) You can even visit Prague if you want! ;)

As for coming from Europe... well I always wanted to visit the U.S., the only problem is cost of the flight tickets... The lowest are for New York, so I'd vote for that. ;) What

As to the over/under 21 issue - the GetTogethers so far have all been centered on one meal - a lunch or dinner that most attendees try to commit to going to. Then as the date gets closer, whoever is in the area can start talking and ADDITIONALLY arrange a few other events/times to get together.

In San Francisco, we arranged a Saturday night dinner, but when people came to town on Friday, we met up to stroll around the Castro and had coffee. People did various things on Saturday like touristing and movies, then we did dinner. Many of us then went up to the top of Twin Peaks.

Dallas we again got together Friday night - some of us went to dinner, did a theme park during the day Saturday and had dinner together that night (the official Get Together) and then bowling later.

In DC, the main event was lunch on Sunday and Dan and I got together with two long-time friends who are on GA the night before, but the lunch was pretty much the only event of that trip.

So - what I'm trying to say - I don't think you have to limit it based on age as long as a bar trip or something like that are EXTRA activities in addition to the main meal.

in order to avoid confusion... Im going to rename this Possible GA 2010 get together :) if there is enough interest we can go from there.

B)..............Sounds good, I have already sent out feelers (not that kind Steve) in suggestions and what shows may be available to see I might be able to get discount for Chris Angels show. But honestly I am far removed from the gaming/hotel industry in this town. I have also consulted a member how was very much a part of the industry for advice and I'm waiting for his response. Btw, a poll of sorts of those that are interested, {yes, maybe, not sure} would greatly help if I ask for tickets in numbers. Who knows, maybe we will get a goat this time!!

Okay, everyone, the best way to book 'Vegas is to check with the LVCVB first to see which conventions are in town and when--then narrow down your dates from there.

Big conventions make your hotel rates go up for that weekend, and holidays are even worse.

Holidays are also bad with the airlines fares as the fares are usually affected for any date 2 weeks before or after a holiday (in any country).

I think Linxe was wise to choose Las Vegas, but if this is done during summer, unless we're incredibly lucky enough to have a mild one, it's going to be sweltering during the day--if you're from a cooler climate, you'll literally melt due to the excessive heat.

I've been watching the prices with Disneyland CA resort, and don't advise going there...the resort's lowest rates through Christmas are USD225 per night, and that's with a package. At least with 'Vegas you can get a special with the 4th or 5th night free...funbooks and other promo items...it's a better bargain, and it's been slow.

Well, I'll be honest here. I chose Las Vegas because there really is a lot to do besides sit there and play in the casinos. When I went we didn't really play the slot machines a lot, did a lot of walking though. We went and saw the band Purple Reign (did Prince covers), which was really cool. Thunder (down under??) something or other was there (Australian strippers?), I think Bette Midler or Celine Dion was in town then, the singing/dancing fountains were really cool. We only went to the bars three times, once to see a gay bar/drag show and then there was Coyote Ugly, oh, and the bar that purple reign played in. One of the hotels had a huge under water tank in it which was really cool when we walked through, there was another hotel with rides and such. (We stayed at the Excalibur so we were right on the strip) We even went and took a limo ride to the old part of Las Vegas (That was cool, drinking champaigne. First time I had ever been in a limo too).

One of the hotels had a Paris like feel to it which was cool running around and climbing the miniature eiffel tower on the inside. I just had a lot of fun when I was there and spent a lot of my time sober (Surprised? I was too).

There was a restaurant in one of the hotels that had a rain forest like thing going on, which I would love to eat at again. Also, it really didn't seem all that expensive to me. But we hoarded a bunch of people in the hotel room (there were 7 of us total, 3 people in one bed, two in another and I had the couch). I'm not sure I'd be willing to go through all that again, but it was fun.

Another thought was Atlanta Georgia, but I'd rather do that over labor day weekend because of the DCon thing they have going on :), but that is expensive.

Anyways, while I am concerned about anyone under the age of 21 I think there would be plenty of stuff to do for everyone. Like Tiff said, when I go somewhere I want to see new exciting things and do something abnormal that I don't get to do anywhere else.

Those were just my thoughts of Las Vegas, I haven't really put much thought into any place else.

If we go to Seattle though, those of us twilight fans can head further west and see where the filming/book setting took place in :)

(Oh Steve, wanna be my Edward??? wub.gif )

Plus Mount Rainier (whatever mount that is) is fun to look at. The ferry's crossing the puget sound are cool and I'll even show you all where the Navy base is and Bremerton/Silverdale. I had some fun when i went up there, plus there's the space needle, etcetera and Vancouver isn't that far away either, so we can head over to Canada for a day or so.

Uhm. I had fun in Pensacola Florida when I was down there for a month for military training, but I mostly went down to the water front and rented a jet ski for a couple of hours.

On another note, I won't eat at Ruby Tuesday's, ever...they make me sick every time for some reason and I have no idea why. (I just thought I'd throw that out there).

Hahah, so thought just occured. How about a GA Cruise :). Okay, I'm thinking too much and there's too many ideas. I'll see if anyone else has ideas on locations and stuff.

Thanks everyone for replying/inputting so far.

Jon

Well I was planning on being in Vegas over the summer at some point for my 21st b-day probably in July or August sometime and I would love to meet some of you guys one night if the times happen to coincide . Keep in mind none of this is set in stone, but if you did something in July or August I might be able and would love to attend.

So you enjoyed The Paris Casino & Hotel? Next time try eating at the Cafe Mon Ami Gabi, right out front on the strip--the entrance is to the left inside the casino entry from the strip. Best steaks you'll ever eat...

Well, Jon, Thunder From Down Under is still at the Riviera (I think--I tend to look at the bodies more than the hotel name), the billboards are all over the airport. Bette is still there alternating in the Ceasar's Forum with Cher (who should be married to an embryo by now).... And even without cramming the rooms, a group block shouldn't be too costly for a rate--they're still building out there, and there's not enough business right now...next summer may see several construction projects halted if they don't start filling rooms. An alternative for those more into watersports (Recreational kind, not kinky sex) Laughlin might be a better option, right on the river...their rates are also competitive with 'Vegas. Other cost saving tips: Don't jump into a 'strip' hotel--try the Hard Rock (off strip) or Palace Station (also off strip, right across the freeway). There are several affordable options within Las Vegas.

The Ky Derby weekend is a pleasant event.. innocent.gif

Isn't that where cars or horses or something go round and round and round and round in circles? blink.gif

I might get motion sickness if I had to do that. Hrm. West Virginia was cool. White water rafting anyone???

Is Laughlin the name of a town or something? Hrm.

Horses dear... HORSES.. lol. And there's more there than just Horses.. there is betting on said horses. ;) Celebrities can enjoy themselves so you gays could at least stay for a few hours.. Then we can go to say.. a theme park.. the Louisville Zoo is World Class as well... Hotels are nice and cheap.. not a lot of traffic (ever), and for the most part people leave other people alone.
