Possible GA 2010 gettogether

I was at the Treasure Island Hotel/Casino, my 22st birthday a few months ago. I can honestly say that I love Vegas, but I wouldn't want to spend too much time there. After shows, hotel, food, and airfare, I spent $2,000 on the trip with my family (My dad, sister, and me) before adding in gambling losses :(. Las Vegas is very pricey.

Although, I can say now that I have gambled in every Casino of the Las Vegas, even if you count the Airport slot machine :P, I had luck in the Sahara, Bellagio, and Luxor. I lost most money at Caesars, MGM, Stratosphere, and the Carnival Casinos.

By the way, if you want to enjoy the oppulence, I'd take a stroll in the Venetian. It is such an interesting place to visit with its own indoor canal. I hear the rooms are expensive, but extrordinary.

Trebs/Dan, I might head to DC sometime later. If you're doing lobbying there or something send me a PM, we may be able to do lunch.

Isn't that where cars or horses or something go round and round and round and round in circles? blink.gif

I might get motion sickness if I had to do that. Hrm. West Virginia was cool. White water rafting anyone???

Is Laughlin the name of a town or something? Hrm.

Yes, Jon, Lauglin, NV, is a town on the Colorado River...there are casinos just like in 'Vegas, but the resorts are geared for those who like to recreate in the aquatic environment of the river. The shows wrap up pretty early as well...the town pretty much shuts down around 10pm, although the casinos are open 24/7...it's about 2 hours from 'Vegas...

WL - Thanks, but we're pretty much stuck to the west coast for the near future (I won't be allowed to fly until December at the earliest). Even past that, don't see any east coast trips anytime soon, unfortunately.

You make a good point about the under 21 thing. It would be bad to exclude anyone because of their age. Vegas has a great allure to it though because of the awesome shows. I'm a fan of the cirque du soleil.

Of course... The problem would be solved by going to Montreal. Legal age is 18 (no one really ever ID). We have a casino. The nightlife is well reputated. Sure you get kicked out of a bar... Whatever... Just cross the street to get in another one. And the Cirque du Soleil came from here too and is often here as well. Oh did I mention that Montreal has the most restaurants per capita in the world too?

The only down side is that you will need a passport. :P

A lot of it is about cost for me. It is going to cost a lot to get to the country let alone have to spend on accommodation and activities when I get there.

May I suggest hostels instead if you don't mind living in a common-style accomadation? (that is sharing a room with up to six-twelve people... not not necessarily sharing a bed, of course).

Haha. Saving my passport for my euro-trip in 2011. Gonna hit up the UK, Czech, Italy, France, Germany and then I'm heading to Australia.

Although I'm not opposed to going to Montreal, I just heard they didn't like americans much? Also, the last thing I want to do is bail someone out of jail because they can't hold their alcohol, and parents may not be very understanding. Where as what happens in Vegas (well say Nevada) stays in Nevada, ehr, or anywhere else for that matter.

So far we have heard:

Kentucky

Seattle Washington/Vancouver, British Columbia

Laughlin Nevada

Las Vegas Nevada

Montreal Quebec, Canada

West Virginia (I would have to go look up the areas, but I'm game for capitol. There's a small town not all that far away that I'm interested in going back too, not to mention the old battlefield that is on the way there)

New York City

Hawaii

Any other spots of interest to anyone? I'm gonna start polling in a couple of days, I think.

Jon

I'd vote for Vegas personally. Hotels are pretty cheap, theres lots to do etc. We could do like a lunch / dinner thing for all ages and those 21 & over can meet up some time later for bar/ casino fun. Tiffs down for Vegas too she'll go where ever I go muwahahaha.

Also I agree with Joe on the dates. Late July/Early Agu would fit perfectly with my work sch. But if we wanted to go sooner well idk figured out a date i guess and i'll get back to you =D

Btw I would take Hawaii off that list. I really don't think much people could afford it. Hawaii's just to f**king expensive. But if any of you do come be sure to look me up, i'll show you a good time =D Just make sure you like beaches and hiking =D

montreal is interesting but everyone will need a passport to go

Yeah, and we'd have to make Jack go. Anyway, the Canadians need passports to make it to the US as well.

Btw, has anyone thought of Chicago? There's lots of stuff there, or how about New York City?

NYC was on the list, but honestly I'm not all that sure I'd go. I was there a few times, but I never got to party up there. I might be able to talk myself into changing my mind and going if that's where everyone wanted to go.

Chicago. Hrm. I enjoyed my week there when I was 16, but Chicago is pretty big. (My aunt had a house in a suburb up there).

I enjoyed Boys Town, what i saw of it anyway. Always did want to go back. Especially during Gay Pride parade. Them go go dancers on the poles...yummy. Talk about good material for a 16 year old boy.

Can we please make sure we have strippers? (hrm..I can't think of a more subtler request, rofl).

Okay, so all joking aside. I'm definitely open to Chicago, and I'm fairly open to the idea of New York City.

I'm also seriously considering what Meeko has said. I agree with him that Hawaii is extremely expensive. I was there for four days, one of which I had duty and the other three were on shore leave, and I blew through about $3000 like nothing.

Sooo, I'll be more then happy to add Chicago to the list, and NYC is already on it.

I'll need a passport anyway :) I have no problem slumming it... in fact hostels are probably a few steps above a lot of places I have slept.... mountain sides, roundhouses, barns... :)

I never thought of Montreal. I went there when I was much younger with the family and I don't remember it. I think it would be a good place to go and experience. As for the passport thing, well anyone from Canada or other countries also need a passpord to get to the US cities. I think most people have passports and if not, they're not hard to get. Plus, it's the best form of ID.

Of course Mike, you're my partner in crime! :D

Vegas as hotel and air packages and if you share a room with someone, even cheaper. They have great restaurants/buffets places for everyone to join in and like Mike said, the older crowd can hit the nightlife a bit. And everyone can see a show, regardless of age, although those are generally expensive.

Late summer is probably best. I always hate traveling in the winter or spring months because there's random snow or rain storms. And the schedule fits the majority of the people here--students. Plus, I won't have any time off until the summer anyhow, but for the GA folks, I'd totally take time off.

Hawaii is insanely expensive. When I visited you, it was for a little over a week and we didn't even do crazy amount of things and the hotel and airfare was over a grand already. That wouldn't be a good place. Not sure anyone would want to pay an expensive ticket for a relatively short visit of approx. 3 days or so.

Darn, the only thing you can remember about Boston is our Gay Strippers? :P

We only have four gay strip joints in Boston, there's more on the outskirts of town. The gay district has become such a yuppie haven, it makes the Village in NYC seem like middle class suburb. :D

However, it would be fun to visit Vegas again. I just need to pad my wallet for it. (I do not know how people can spend under a thousand dollars in Vegas after a week there. The shows, rides, and gift shops on every corner let alone the other things like a bottle of pepsi were outrageous. )

Benji do you know any gay places in Vegas?

As I was planning on a trip to NY anyways that could work too. I'd say NY or LV though I really want to go back to vegas. hahaha

New York, New York, New York! lol.

I really want to go back to Vegas. All my friends are in grad school and working, and it's not a place I can go alone.

I've never been to Boston actually. I really want to go, but just need to find some people for a mini road trip. I get bored on my own.

Saving for Vegas is a must, but I doubt a get together would be for a whole week. Not everyone can secure that time off and money either. Probably a few days?

And don't succumb to the gift shops! Lol, you can avoid them!

Not everyone. Canadians don't need it. :P

Unless you decide to drive cross the border, then a passcard would be better. Much cheaper than a passport.

If Montreal were chosen (I know, I'm dreaming too much)... I could round up three other GAuthors living in the city as well.
