methodwriter85 Posted June 22, 2010 Posted June 22, 2010 (edited) Forget the war in Iraq. Forget the oil spill, and the Larry King Live special that raised 1.3 million for the efforts. No, right now the biggest news is...Amanda Bynes Retires at 24 From Acting! Oh, nooooo!!!!! Okay, all sarcasm aside, it is kinda weird to think of a contemporary- someone I grew up with in a sense as I watched them on tv, actually saying she's "retired". And I gotta admit I'm a bit jealous- although she definitely didn't make the billions the Oleson's did, Amanda's probably made enough bank in her life that she's pretty much free to rest on her laurels and worry about nothing. At 24. My age. Damn, I'm jealous. I should've become a child star, damn it. If I could retire at my age, I'd be one happy cat. I'd buy a Winnebago, and travel throughout the United States, taking pictures and befriending locals while writing about my observations in journals. If you don't know who the hell she is, I don't really blame you. The only way you'd know is if you were familiar with Nickelodeon and the WB programming during the first half of the 2000's. She was on your typical teen sitcom stuff, and made some typical bad teen comedies. Although She's the Man introduced us to Channing Tatum, so...hey. You can't say nothing good ever came out of her career. Edited June 22, 2010 by methodwriter85

Aeroplane Posted June 22, 2010 Posted June 22, 2010 ....who? I'm glad you covered who she is in your post .
TetRefine Posted June 22, 2010 Posted June 22, 2010 Nooooooooooooooooo!!! I practically revolved my childhood around watching the Amanda Bynes Show at 5 o'clock every day on Nickelodeon!
Arpeggio Posted June 22, 2010 Posted June 22, 2010 She played Penny in Hairspray! ......... not like I saw it or anything >_>
John Doe Posted June 22, 2010 Posted June 22, 2010 Well at least I can alwasy rent What a Girl Wants anytime.... that is her in that movie right?
Menorain Posted June 22, 2010 Posted June 22, 2010 I AM HORRIFIED AND AMBIVALENT I THINK XDD We're probably never gonna get over it like
Gregoire Posted June 23, 2010 Posted June 23, 2010 Amanda Bynes retiring was surprising to me. I kept waiting for her to get a breakout roll, because I've always loved her from "All That" to "The Amanda Show" to "What I Like About You". She has this personality that comes across as approachable, at least from the other side of the television. I respect her decision to retire at 24, seeing as how I just signed my retirement papers, yesterday, at 20, but I hope that she changes her mind. It's not like she doesn't have time to work out if she does.
Krista Posted June 23, 2010 Posted June 23, 2010 Heh. She couldn't compete with the endless amount of young... "talent" out there for the roles... at 24 she hadn't really accomplished what other actresses her age or younger was. Kind of sad really.. how people don't ever seem to get a break, but such is life.

I thought she'd be like Jennifer Love Hewitt in a couple years- former teen queen who gets a second act by her late 20's, and get a break-out adult role in a good sitcom.
Y_B Posted June 23, 2010 Posted June 23, 2010 And we should give a shit why? Same reason why people give a shit about Justin Bieber
Caedus Posted June 23, 2010 Posted June 23, 2010 I remember her. I think the first time I saw her on TV was when she was on "All That" on Nick, plus her Moody's Point thing on her show (a Dawson's creek parody?). Wow I can't believe I'm starting to get nostalgic for the 90's...

Mark Arbour Posted June 23, 2010 Posted June 23, 2010 Same reason why people give a shit about Justin Bieber Exactly. Why?
Gregoire Posted June 23, 2010 Posted June 23, 2010 Exactly. Why? I care because she's in my relative age group. As a result, I relate to her (what I know of her) and she was a fixture of my childhood. This is the equivalent of a celebrity death...on my end, of course, not hers. But because it seems like that, it's news...to me, anyways. And while I acknowledge that there are more pressing matters that may or may not deserve the attention that her story is receiving, please don't attack this situation just because it seems irrelevant to you. Come now, that doesn't seem fair, now does it?

Come now, that doesn't seem fair, now does it? Thanks, man. She was one of the last good cast members of All That, so for that, she'll always be a part of my childhood as well. (However, if Jamie Lynn Spears announced she retired, I really wouldn't shed a tear at all because she shouldn't have effin' been on All That.)
scotchirish87 Posted June 24, 2010 Posted June 24, 2010 Nickelodeon should have just stayed in the 90's, everyone would be happier with that.
TetRefine Posted June 24, 2010 Posted June 24, 2010 Nickelodeon should have just stayed in the 90's, everyone would be happier with that. YES!!!! Hey Arnold, Rugrats, Rocket Power, CatDog, Doug, Kenan & Kel, Rocko's Modern Life. The list goes on and on. Nickelodeon was my favorite channel. I miss all those shows.
methodwriter85 Posted June 25, 2010 Author Posted June 25, 2010 Nick is definitely not what it used to be, altough I think iCarly and Big Time Rush are actually pretty good. THANK GOD the Zoey 101 era is over, I couldn't stand that chick.
*HJ* Posted June 25, 2010 Posted June 25, 2010 hehe, I think Zoey 101 ended cause the slut got pregnant. sister like sister I guess.
