methodwriter85 Posted February 15, 2013 Author Posted February 15, 2013 (edited) Except neither of us are old, not even close. Just because I'm not a teenager doesn't mean I'm filing for social security. So, I was thinking of this post because of some jokes made while I was hanging out with my friend Mike. This one guy there kept saying that this guy Trent graduated from college in 2006. I thought it was for real, and was like, "Oh, cool- you graduated in '06...let me think of people that went here when you were here." Trent replied, "No, I graduated in 2011. Matt is just calling me old because I won't go out as much anymore." So. People who graduated college in 2006 are apparently old now. I graduated in '10, but that was because of a series of circumstances, and I was a freshman in college when the class of '06 graduated. I mean, I get that people who started college in 2007 would not look at people who graduated in '06 as peers, but that made me feel old. Then again, when I was 22, I didn't think 28-year olds were young, so I guess it makes sense. I stopped thinking of myself as a "youth" when I turned 24. I like to think of myself at 27 now as "youngish", and my current definition of not-young is over 35. Still, that was kind of weird, because I had a fair amount of friends who were seniors in 2006 when I was a freshmen. I mean, of course the guy was drunk, but it was just kind of funny and made me think of your quote, Blue. As a minor quibble, it's ridiculous that I'm 27 and recently got carded to see an R-rated movie and get carded for alcohol all the time, but I was told by my play director Stan(who's about the same age as Mark) that I'll really appreciate looking younger than my age someday. It's a familiy trait- aside from one of my sisters, my entire family looks much younger than they are. It's annoying now, but I guess when I hit my 30's and I still look cardable it'll be nice. methodwriter85 Posted February 17, 2013 Author Posted February 17, 2013 (edited) Chapter 93-When Will finds JJ cut up like a Christmas ham. I've gotten jokes about this song since I was 5 years old. I'm sure JJ has, too.-When Will and JJ talk at the end of the chapter, and Will tries to convince JJ that he doesn't need the coach like he thought he did. JamGod, why couldn't I have been in college during the Grunge Era like Private Tim was? What a great era of music. Edited February 17, 2013 by methodwriter85 1
methodwriter85 Posted March 11, 2013 Author Posted March 11, 2013 (edited) Chapter 97 -When the gang parties it up to celebrate the New Year. -When the gang welcomes in 2001. I'm going to admit, I get chills watching this. These people look so happy and hopeful about the coming new year of 2001, and for 3,000 people, this will be their last New Year, and their lives are to end in an unimaginably violet, unprecedented way. -When Will has fun macking on guys at the party. methodwriter85 Posted March 15, 2013 Author Posted March 15, 2013 Chapter 98 -When Matt officially commits himself to Wade.
Mark Arbour Posted March 15, 2013 Posted March 15, 2013 Chapter 98 -When Matt officially commits himself to Wade. An N'Sync song. How appropriate!
methodwriter85 Posted March 15, 2013 Author Posted March 15, 2013 (edited) It was pretty popular during the fall of 2000. It was during 2000-2001 that it seemed like N'Sync was eclipsing BSB's popularity, if I remember correctly. Then 9/11 came, and people were no longer in the mood for boybands...they didn't come back into style until the Jonas Brothers in the mid/late '00s. Although the Jonas Brothers really weren't in the vein of the BSB/N'Sync/98 Degrees type...the first really big boybandin that vein to break out close to that level would be the whole One Direction thing. 2001 was actually a much better year for music than 2000 was, and I'm pretty excited about soundtracking a new year for the next story. Some tracks from '01 that I'm eager to use include: Probably one of my favorite "graduation-themed" songs. It's just too damn cute. Clint Eastwood by Gorillaz God, this would have been soooo perfect for the Millenium scene where Brad wrecks Robbie's car. Unfortunately, that scene took place in 1999 so I couldn't use it. Missy Elliot was flying high this year, and I remember after this song, slang was influenced, to people saying things like "get my math on" and the like. And it's a pretty safe bet that I'll be able to find a spot for "Get Your Freak On." I remember we were a school dance showcase...I'm not sure if this was fall '01 or spring '02, but this 7th grade girl put on a performance to this song. And let's just say that her moves quite matched what this song is about. I'll never forget after the performance, when everyone was back in our science class and couldn't stop talking about how slutty this 7th grade girl's moves were. I'm not a huge fan of her now, but I loved her when she first came out. This kind of music- straight up soul- just wasn't around much during the boyband vs. Puff Daddy era. Alicia Keyes was such a breathe of fresh air at the time. What a great dance track. I can totally picture an 17-year old Blue boogeying down to this at the local gay club. "Asleep" by The Smiths Thank you, Perks of Being A Wallflower for this one... -When Will tells JJ about what happened to Shane, and JJ breaks down. (reprise) God, that song by The Smiths is depressing. They have an inherently morbid sound anyway. But good choice.
methodwriter85 Posted March 17, 2013 Author Posted March 17, 2013 God, that song by The Smiths is depressing. They have an inherently morbid sound anyway. But good choice. You really should Red-box The Perks of Being A Wallflower, if you haven't already. You will come out of the experience absolutely adoring Charlie/Logan Lermann. What a beautiful and talented young man.
Clydee Posted March 17, 2013 Posted March 17, 2013 You really should Red-box The Perks of Being A Wallflower, if you haven't already. You will come out of the experience absolutely adoring Charlie/Logan Lermann. What a beautiful and talented young man. I thought that whole movie was wonderful. I agree with you about Logan Lerman. Not only beautiful, but talented as well. I bought the movie as soon as it came out. Logan looked great in those golden pants, didn't he?
B1ue Posted March 17, 2013 Posted March 17, 2013 What a great dance track. I can totally picture an 17-year old Blue boogeying down to this at the local gay club. There were no pictures, therefore it did not happen. Where DID I put that CD? I know I have it somewhere... Shane's actions hit me hard this chapter, so good choice for that soundtrack.
methodwriter85 Posted March 18, 2013 Author Posted March 18, 2013 Shane's actions hit me hard this chapter, so good choice for that soundtrack. Thanks. I was orginally thinking "Adam's Song", but that's just so overdone. And I've recently seen The Perks of Being A Wallflower, and that song just fit.
methodwriter85 Posted March 21, 2013 Author Posted March 21, 2013 Chapter 100 -When Will reflects over what an awesome bond the one between father and son can be. "Over the Rainbow"/"What A Wonderful World" Medley by Israel 1
centexhairysub Posted March 21, 2013 Posted March 21, 2013 That is actually a great choice and it fits not just this chapter but really the whole story for this one. The song that was playing in my head the whole time I was reading this last chapter was " The Way We Were " by Barbra Streisand. I am not usually even a big Babs fan but for some reason that just seemed to fit for me...
