centexhairysub Posted September 26, 2013 Posted September 26, 2013 Sister Christian is just the perfect song for this chapter... I turned it on and went back and re-read the part with Marie and Will with it playing very softly in the background and it really did fit the mood. An inspired choose, I was wondering what direction you would go with your choice the first time I read the chapter... 1
Mark Arbour Posted September 26, 2013 Posted September 26, 2013 Sister Christian is just the perfect song for this chapter... An inspired choose, I was wondering what direction you would go with your choice the first time I read the chapter... Yep. 1
methodwriter85 Posted September 27, 2013 Author Posted September 27, 2013 Well...I picked it because I thought the singer was just a little too interested in his sister's sexual development.
methodwriter85 Posted October 1, 2013 Author Posted October 1, 2013 Chapter 44 -When Brad levels with Will about what was going on between him and Robbie. "Fallin'" by Alicia Keys She was so good for her first two albums, and then I felt like Alicia Keys just got lazy. "No One" and "That Girl is On Fire"? Bah. Pales to this, "A Woman's Work", and "If I Ain't Got You." -When Will completely looses it on his teacher. "Bodies" by Drowning Pool 1
centexhairysub Posted October 1, 2013 Posted October 1, 2013 Great picks, I have not heard or even though of Bodies by Drowning Pool in years. This was a kick-ass choice...
Daddydavek Posted October 1, 2013 Posted October 1, 2013 WOW! I've liked lots of your picks in the past but these two really are outstanding.
methodwriter85 Posted October 5, 2013 Author Posted October 5, 2013 Chapter 45 -When the teacher admits the real reason for how he treated Will, and Will forgives him. "Everybody Hurts" by REM -When Will and Brad talk while walking around in New Jersey, and Brad bitches about how angry he is at Robbie. "Kozmic Blues" by Janis Joplin -When the funeral gets started. "Amazing Grace" -When JJ gets hit over with happy memories of his memories of his mother, reinforced by a slideshow. "Stand By Me" by Ben E. King -When the boys start to fight, then relax with a few jokes. "The Weight" by The Band 2
centexhairysub Posted October 5, 2013 Posted October 5, 2013 All of these picks are outstanding but the Janis Joplin and REM songs just fit those moments so perfectly... I am so impressed with your understanding of how to pick a song that works so well with what is going on.... Bravo....
methodwriter85 Posted October 5, 2013 Author Posted October 5, 2013 See this French film called Little White Lies. I got the song choice because of that movie.
centexhairysub Posted October 5, 2013 Posted October 5, 2013 See this French film called Little White Lies. I got the song choice because of that movie. " The Small Handkerchiefs " is a great movie... I liked it much better than some critics did and you are right the music was great in it...
methodwriter85 Posted October 9, 2013 Author Posted October 9, 2013 (edited) Chapter 46 -When Will calls out his grandfather for his racism. "Everyday People" by Sly and the Family Stone -When Will is at the funeral for Joey Martinelli, the firefighter he locked eyes with. "Fragile" by Sting (Live Performance in Italy on September 11, 2001) -When Will, Wade, and Matt walk out of the funeral to support Carullo, and Will has a talk with Tony's mother, who makes it clear that she knows Tony is gay. "This Land Is Your Land" by Peter, Paul, and Mary -When Will and Tony hang out together, and engage in some sexual healing with each other. "New York State of Mind" by Billy Joel Edited October 9, 2013 by methodwriter85 1
methodwriter85 Posted October 13, 2013 Author Posted October 13, 2013 Chapter 47 -When JP muses over the patriotic fervor of the USA. "God Bless the U.S.A." by Lee Greenwood -And as JP weighs the negatives of the nationalistic feelings going on, and his ominious feelings about President George W. Bush. "For What It's Worth" by Buffalo Springfield I will never, for the rest of my life, forget how incredibly nasty the election of 2004 was. Between the Swiftboat Veterans for Truth, and the comparisons of Bush to Hitler, to the Republican National Convention protests, to Farenheight 9/11 being a hit film that summer...it was just incredible. So jarring to how 1996 and 2000 were relatively quiet ones, even with the dangling chads of the latter. I don't even think 2008 or 2012 reached the level of nastiness that 2004 had. That's the U.S.A. that our intrepid CAP crew is heading into, once the post-9/11 niceness wears off. - When JP and Brad talk, and JP asks Brad to replay his entire relationship with Robbie, and ask himself if he regrets having him in his life. "This Guy's In Love With You" by Herb Alpert - When Wade and the Danfield learn that they want to inter Jeff Danfield into the Arlington National Cementary, and learn about the details of his burial. "Hymn to the Fallen" from Saving Private Ryan
Mark Arbour Posted October 13, 2013 Posted October 13, 2013 Chapter 47 -When JP muses over the patriotic fervor of the USA. "God Bless the U.S.A." by Lee Greenwood I truly hate this song. Totally and completely hate it. I hate any song that tries to tie God in with patriotism (God Bless America is also at the top of my list). But it does fit the story. -And as JP weighs the negatives of the nationalistic feelings going on, and his ominious feelings about President George W. Bush. "For What It's Worth" by Buffalo Springfield And this one is as good as the first one was bad. I think that it's especially appropriate as JP waxes philosophically about the past. - When JP and Brad talk, and JP asks Brad to replay his entire relationship with Robbie, and ask himself if he regrets having him in his life. "This Guy's In Love With You" by Herb Alpert Great choice! I never would have thought of this one, but it is perfect. - When Wade and the Danfield learn that they want to inter Jeff Danfield into the Arlington National Cementary, and learn about the details of his burial. "Hymn to the Fallen" from Saving Private Ryan Now what are you going to use when they have the actual funeral?

He'd always play "God Bless the U.S.A." at one point as he was a vet, although it wasn't exactly a dance tune. I do think it really hits at the mindset of post-9/11 America. Churches were packed for awhile. 2. It's amazing how much the past rhymes. It just makes me so angry and sad whenever I look at the pictures of the Iraq War, and thinking about how many lives were lost and ruined for it, and for what? 3. Thanks. This was kind of different kind of choice, but there's something about using a pretty love ballad against such a sad moment. I remember it being used on Quantum Leap many moons ago. More recently, it was used on an episode of Quantum Leap. 4. I have that picked out. 1

methodwriter85 Posted October 14, 2013 Author Posted October 14, 2013 (edited) Of course you have some source to back this up, right? Preachers, Terrorism, and War: Rhetorical Analysis of Sermons Responding to 9/11 by Mark Gring Church attendance spiked from 42 percent to 47 percent post-9/11, however the 5 percent spike only lasted until mid-November. As the October 2001 population of the United States was estimated at 285, 690,000, that'd translate to roughly about 14, 284, 500 people who went to church that month, who wouldn't have in August 2001 and would have stopped by December 2001. Good boy. We'll keep that Master's Degree training up to speed.
methodwriter85 Posted October 16, 2013 Author Posted October 16, 2013 Chapter 48 -When they hold the state funeral viewing for Senator Danfield in the Capitol rotunda. "God Bless America" by Celine Dion (From the Music and Heroes Tribute that aired 9/21/01) -When JP holds a dinner, and Wade sees his friends from college are there. "Seasons of Love" from Rent God, this was so cliche, but I couldn't think of anything that fit better. -When Wade gives a speech. "Finale B" from Rent I've been looking up musicals from the time period, and nothing really stands out as much as Rent did. I don't think anything has made close to as much impact as Rent did until around the time that Spring Awakening came out...it seems like the late 90's and early 2000's Broadway were mainly about revivals, light-hearted fare like the Producers or Thoroughly Modern Millie, or Disney Musicals. There was Urinetown, but that doesn't seem to have any kind of staying impact. Rent is so over-used, but it really is that "once in a generation" piece of work. -When the Danfield family has their funeral service for the Senator. "Suo Gan" from Empire of the Sun This was a special request from Mark. -When the full realization of Wade's father being gone hits him. "Danny Boy" by Andy Williams 1
methodwriter85 Posted October 21, 2013 Author Posted October 21, 2013 (edited) Chapter 49 -When we learn the back story of Veronica Fletcher, a woman from Cuba who bore Senator Danfield a son, and got her ass deported back to Cuba in 1993. "Come Undone" by Duran Duran -When Wade and Matt imagine Wade's half-brother as having a loveless, orphan-like upbringing. "Where Is Love?" from Oliver -When Will and Tony have sex, and Will realizes that it's not what it used to be. "Torn" by Natalie Imbruglia I was pretty obsessed with this song back in 1998. Mainly because of the lead guy in the video. Hottie Australian type, yay! (Check out his late 90's/early 00's chords.) I also remember thinking at 12 how much I liked how the deconstructing of the video set was such a great metaphor for the young woman's idealized image of her ex-boyfriend unraveling as she faces the truth about who he is. methodwriter85 Posted October 27, 2013 Author Posted October 27, 2013 (edited) Chapter 50-When Brad ruminates on Robbie while he's getting ready, and wonders how he can possibly get through this tribute."It's Going To Take A Miracle" by Laura Nyro and Labelle-On the way to the tribute, when Brad and his boys talk in the car."Let It Be" by The Beatles- During Robbie's video tribute."Crocodile Rock" by Elton John"Follow You, Follow Me" by Genesis"Don't Fear the Reaper" by Blue Oyster Cult-When Marcel and Brad have sex, with Brad imagining that he's Robbie."The Ghost in You" by The Psychedelic Furs-When Brad walks out onto the beach, and says good-bye to Robbie."Catch The Wind" by Donovan Okay, I'm fucking crying right now. methodwriter85 Posted November 4, 2013 Author Posted November 4, 2013 Chapter 51 -When John comforts JJ. "I'll Stand By You" by The Pretenders I fucking lost it listening and watching Amber Riley perform the cover on the Cory Montieth Glee tribute episode. -When Zach tries to unnerve John and JJ with his hot little self. "Sexy Boy" by Air -When JJ and John decide to sleep in bed together, with JJ obsessing about whether or not he should make a move. "Walk Me Home" by Mandy Home Eric Lively from So Weird. God, I had a thing for him. He's still pretty hot, if you've seen Pink's Please Don't Leave Me video. Sadly, the closest his career has gotten to the A-List was when his character raped pre-Twilight Kristen Stewart in a T.V. movie. -When Will has sex with Zach, and the lessons of Tony have clearly left his mark on Will. "U Remind Me" by Usher
methodwriter85 Posted November 11, 2013 Author Posted November 11, 2013 Chapter 52 - When Gathan's family members all learn that they're going to receive a million dollar trust, but in a graduated way that Zach doesn't care for. "Money" by The Flying Lizards -When Wade sees the guy that he thinks is his brother. "Moonage Daydream" by David Bowie -When Wade plays a soccer game with his actual brother, and Matt reminds him that he can't force Ethan to change into a proper Danfield.
