Former Member Posted July 31, 2014 Author Posted July 31, 2014 (edited) Well, I'll start off by saying I love the book. The big strong men around Casey are all very compelling. He has his dad, Lucas his roommate, and Fox his friend and confidant (if he'd only trust him more). The other guys are more like Casey, and maybe a bit more closed off than the big fellas. That is interesting to me...care to comment..? lol Bryce, I'd like to know if you have a guide to some of the songs mentioned in the book Edited July 31, 2014 by AC Benus 3
Headstall Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 I absolutely love this story so far...every minute of it. I can't wait for the next chapter because I have no idea where it is going. If this is your first story I can't imagine what your potential is. I love the relationship between Casey and his dad...so awesome. All the other characters are strong and convincing...I think I could fall for Lucas. I am already a huge fan!!! Cheers...Gary 3

That is interesting to me...care to comment..? lol Bryce, I'd like to know if you have a guide to some of the songs mentioned in the book Here is a list of the songs mentioned in The Love Song of Lenny Bradshaw. Music is one of my greatest passions. Since Casey is loosely based on myself, a lot of his music taste are based on my own music taste. Music of The Love Song of Lenny Bradshaw Chapter One: Back to School: This is the song Casey and his dad, Hugh, are listening to on the drive to Kennedy State University. Buddy Holly and the Crickets: Chapter Three: The Mod Squad: This is the song Casey is singing in the shower in the dream sequence with Lenny. Gotye [featuring Kimbra]: Chapter Four: What Does the Fox Say?: This is the song Fox plays for Casey after the girls leave. The Postal Service: Chapter Six: Rainy Days and Mondays: This is the song Casey is listening to on his way from class to the cafe. Portishead: Chapter Ten: Whiskey Girl: Lucas is a big Blink 182 fan. This is the song he is listening to while he is working on his mid-term paper. Blink 182: Chapter Eleven: City Love: On their way to Chattanooga, Tennessee for the start of fall break, Lucas and Casey are listening to a playlist called Road Trip 2013 Redbone: Come and Get Your Love Chapter Eleven: City Love: On their way to Chattanooga, Tennessee for the start of fall break, Lucas and Casey are listening to a playlist called Road Trip 2013. One of Lucas's favorite songs. Charlie Rich: Behind Closed Doors Edited August 3, 2014 by Bryce Lee
Former Member Posted July 31, 2014 Author Posted July 31, 2014 Awesome, thanks for the tunes. I'd still advise to place them in situ in the text, so the context is clear. But I can't wait to listen! 1

This is truly my first novel. I have written several short stories but one thing about writing short stories is that you get attached to characters you have to say goodbye to a few pages later. Casey, Michaela, Sophia, Lucas, Lenny, Fox, Chandler and Hugh are all based on people I know, have known or would some day like to know. Casey's extremely close to his dad in the way I often dreamed I could be close to my own dad. I think if you keep on reading you will see the many layers to people. That's what I like most about writing. You get to explore the many sides to people. Casey shows certain things to certain people that he doesn't to others. Lucas is my fantasy guy. A very cultured, very complex southern gentleman. He is very family-oriented. Cares deeply about people less fortunate than him. He wants to be a Kindergarten teacher for goodness sakes!!! Thank you so much Gary. Hope you continue to enjoy the journey!

Former Member Posted July 31, 2014 Author Posted July 31, 2014 The Buddy Holly song reminds me a bit of Jacky Shane's Any Other Way. I love this song! "...tell her I'm Gay, and I wouldn't have it any other way!" Go gurl! 1
Former Member Posted July 31, 2014 Author Posted July 31, 2014 LOL, why didn't Gotye get a pedicure before filming that vid. Otherwise, he's quite comely 1
Former Author Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 So some of you are curious as to how the characters look or who they are based on. I have posted some links to pictures of actors/actresses whom the characters are based on:Casey Beaumont (actor Dylan O'Brien from Teen Wolf)Hugh Beaumont [Patrick Warburton from Seinfeld]Sophia Winter [Holland Roden from Teen Wolf]Michaela Roy [bre Scullark from Cycle 5 from America's Next Top Model]Lucas Lamontagne [Max Adler from Glee & Switched at Birth]Chandler Bloom [actor Ben Whishaw from Skyfall] Fox Winter [actor Stephen Strait from Sky High] LOL, why didn't Gotye get a pedicure before filming that vid. Otherwise, he's quite comely Here's going for realness I guess. LoL.

I noticed that you didn't mention Tate (old Tater-loved that) so I'm thinking that might mean something. Cheers...Gary 1

You can count on it. But he's definitely not on par with the others as of yet.
Irritable1 Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 Yay, the thread is here! I just loved Hugh's crack about "old Tater." The conversation between the father and son is so warm and believable. I am really enjoying the female characters too, though I cannot understand what Sophia's problem is. And why would Tate care so much about her behavior? I can't wait to find out what the backstory is! 3
Irritable1 Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 Oh, and can I say that I'm a tiny bit disappointed that the models for Casey and Hugh are Caucasian? I was modeling Casey on a delicious AA classmate from long ago. 2

Irritable1 Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 (edited) No, no, no, no. I was a good Muslim girl back then and he certainly gave no particular signs of being interested. But OMG, he was sweet and funny and nerdily handsome and adorable. Edit: Ok, fine, imagine a dark and shy Ben Whishaw, as modeled above. Edit2: I mean, a similar smile and glasses. LoL. Holy Moly! I have to say, Dylan O'Brien is exactly the way i see Casey; Holland Roden exactly the way i see Sophia...but the others throw me for a bit of a loop. First of all, and i really should go back to chapter one and not make a fool of myself in a public place, but when do you say that Michaela is African American..? Ummm, i guess it missed that, lol. Also, I think you say both Fox and Lucas have dark hair, so that's ok, but i could swear you say both have curls. With Ben Whishaw we're back to the way i see Chandler, and that leaves us with your Fox choice. First of all, thank you for posting what is arguably one of the steamiest pix on GA. Wooofffff-ola. Stephen Strait is beyond gorgeous...damn, but i was picturing Fox as beefier. Is that not the case?

I can't wait to find out what the backstory is! I love writing Sophia and Michaela because they are two very different but very relatable females. I like to think of them as the Charlotte and Samantha of the story. Sophia totally owns her sexuality. I love Hugh. Hugh is everything I wish I had growing up. Thank you for your comments! Hope you continue to enjoy. Chapter 11 should be finished soon.
Irritable1 Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 when do you say that Michaela is African American..? I don't recall why, but read slowly and it jumps out. I like Michaela hugely but am suspicious of Sophia. 1

Stephen Strait is beyond gorgeous...damn, but i was picturing Fox as beefier. Is that not the case? Michaela is definitely black. I don't like to come out and say people's race. I try to convery it by their appearance. Plus in Chapter 3, I describe her as channeling a young Aretha Franklin. Fox and Lucas do have curly hair but ultimately the guys I chose represent how I see them. Fox isn't beefy. He has a tall, lean build. Remember he plays soccer. Lucas plays football so he has more of a solid build.

Well, you make him sound sweet and very attractive inside and out. Don't get me going on all the boys i had college crushes on. We'd be here all night. Thanks for sharing. 1
Former Author Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 I don't recall why, but read slowly and it jumps out. I like Michaela hugely but am suspicious of Sophia. I find it interesting in a way that a lot of people find Sophia to be abrasive or they believe she has ulterior motives. Basically Sophia says and acts the way many straight men do but I wanted to point out that a lot of people aren't comfortable when a woman is very confident and blunt. She's very raw in her language and open about her sexuality. I am loving the feedback. Thank you so much!
