At 11:20 a.m. CST this just became the longest interval between two installments of "Streak"...  OH THE AGONY!!!   :unsure2:

Oh, I'm so glad you said that, I thought it was only me suffering from pains of withdrawal. :pinch:

Well "Slut Ho of Virginia" just does not have the same ring to it.

Well, I'd be alright with that. Granted, several of my friends are strippers and porn stars, so...

She's not a slut ho, she's a slut HOE. Think furrows, plowing, tilling, seed, you know. She's a good old down home farm girl.

Know any in the SF Bay Area that might be interested in dating? :)

And now you know the pain of Granger fans suffer through :o

I too am suffering from withdrawal and am quite anxious to learn more. However, I am more anxious about Mark. This is so unlike him to allow so much time to elapse before his next posting. I just hope that he is okay a d just quite involved with his work and just can't send us more for now.

I expect he is just busy. He was online 3 days ago. (Not sure whether to feel sleuthy or stalkerish now.)

But all this thinking about birthdays reminded me of the one that was the most special, the most memorable.  It was the big fete Robbie had thrown for me a couple of years ago.  He’d hired a band, had a huge fireworks display, and let me invite damn near the whole school and my friends at the ice rink.  My tears turned to sobs when I thought about Robbie, and missed him for the zillionth time.

I think it's an interesting psychological hook here- JJ is reminiscing about turning 15, when we know that at this time, he was basically alienated from his entire family except for Robbie, and he was being molested. The kid is very, very good at compartmentalizing.

I also think it's interesting that he doesn't really seem to think about his mother. I think he's still very, very angry at her. You would imagine though that before that big 15th birthday blowout, Jeanine probably was the only one that really made a big deal out of his birthdays, especially when he was little.

Finally, JJ playing Alex like a fiddle was pretty hilarious. I think that was the best way to do it, rather than trying anything overt to get back at Mary Ellen.

I think that most professional athletes are very good compartmentalizing.  With the rigorous training schedules and the physical demands of such a high intensity sport occupation, an extreme focus based on compartmentalizing is a necessity.  But I think you have highlighted an important part of JJ's personality!

It makes me a little sad that JJ the need to maintain his virgin persona with Alex, even in the throes of passion. On the other hand, it makes for really good entertainment. :)

I think it's funny that a guy from a hugely slutty family basically has to play the Blushing Virgin for a variety of reasons.

The interesting thing though is that I think JJ gets into the persona because it's not far from who he is. He might have a raging libido and all that, but he's not that comfortable with sex and being a sexual person. Remember when JJ couldn't handle Zach flirting with him? That's why I agree with Blue about how Alex is the perfect starter relationship, because Alex is willing to treat JJ with kid gloves when it comes to sex.

I did love JJ's previous confessions about the messiness of sex - that was cute. The Blushing Virgin is a role he is comfortable playing  :)

Going by the last couple of chapters, I'd say he is getting more comfortable as time goes on... last chapter I would go so far as to say... potential for a bit of sluttiness :o

Apart from his "escapades" with ME, slutty might be for the next boyfriend...

I actually think you're wrong. He's too picky to actually end up a total slut. Mark has made it pretty clear throughout this book that JJ has insanely high and snobby standards when it comes to people he would try to have sex with. JJ may be starting to like sex, but I don't see him lowering his standards anytime soon just to have it with anything pretty that walks his way.

Who said anything about a total slut??? My words were potential for a bit of sluttiness...meaning he is now good with three ways, having sex with women, and bottoming enthusiastically for Alex...I just meant he has loosened up and become more adventurous in the bedroom...I didn't say he was going to indiscriminately fuck around. I really don't know where you got that from. He will continue to be picky as hell, I am sure... just more fun than he used to be, with who he's with.

I should've said "promiscuous." I can't see JJ racking up huge numbers like Stefan or I'm betting his biological dad did because of how picky he is.

It's more than just the virgin persona, though. If I'd made that comment here, I'd probably have edited in an afterthought about JJ's constant plotting and scheming to keep Alex interested in him, which the virgin persona is part of. He still seems very insecure in their relationship, which is very reasonable in light of recent events.   :/

It makes so much sense though, because Alex puts JJ on a pedestal and treats him like the special one. He can deal with Alex having other people so long as he knows he's the special one.

True, but the main point I am trying to make is how much work JJ is putting into staying on the pedestal.

So while we wait for the story to resume...I thought we could have some interesting conversations about the popular culture of the time period this is set in.

It's late 2002/early 2003, which means we're at the height of Bennifer. (Ben Affleck and J-Lo.) That portmanteau popularized the use of such things, so it makes me wonder...what would you use for our favorite CAP couples?

Will and Zach...Zill? Wach? Zwill?

Alex and JJ...Jalex? Jander? I kinda like Jalex.

Brad and Robbie...Brobbie?

Claire and Jack...Jaire?

It's kind of funny when you think there was a time when such things were never heard of.

Maybe I am old but when I read what you wrote Method, I just wanted to grab your head and yell STFU!

I found that naming like that kind of annoying and stupid and I just want to grab my wood clip board and slap you across your face. But that may be just me.

Haha! I am just as ancient and had the same reaction. :)

*pictures being slapped by a forty-something former marine type* Please Daddy, may I have another? :P

No, in all seriousness, I get that it's annoying and stupid but sometimes you get some really neat portmanteaus. Nuke (Luke and Noah of As the World Turns) and Kish (Kyle Lewis and Oliver Fish on One Life to Live) are two of my favorites.

Just saying that at about this time period in the story, people started using that. Before that, 'ships on fan message boards were given names that weren't smash-ups or just Person/Person.

Which made it really annoying that an episode of the Carrie Diaries, set in 1985, had people trying to say a couple portmanteu nickname. That was such a jarringly anachronistic moment- no one in the mid-1980's talked like that, and it wasn't being done until Bennifer came around in 2002.

Anyway, I'll admit certain things will set my teeth on edge. I can't STAND "totes" (totally), "adorbs" (adorable) or "jelly" (jealous). Although that was inflicted on us by TetRefine's cohort, not mine.

Yolo surprisingly doesn't bother me that much, though. And I'm down with #Hashtag.
