Colt's reaction to another inner circle wolf could be conditioned and isn't necessarily connected to Al's sexuality. His proclamation of loving Colt is harder to explain, because I didn't read it as brotherly love or the love of a leader.

Colt basically 'drugged' Al to reinforce the wolf's intention not to obey Carl but to protect Colt. I think he's learning to use it as a deliberate 'resource.' Waterfall as punishment, wine as seduction/reward. Pretty much my thought too but remember Prime can't shift (and thus heal) due to being poisoned by silver from the steaks. not that I don't agree Prime has to survive somehow, I simply can't work out how it can happen.
