First Time Writer

So I have a large imagination and with every new story I read, it makes me want to create my own. Although I feel the need to write I have a fear of public criticism. What do I do?

Start writing.    You can post in the writing support requests forum for an editor and beta reader to help guide you through the process, but be aware that it might take a little while to find someone.  Also check out the writer's forum for some tips on writing.  I recommend starting small - maybe with some writing prompts or flash fiction pieces, but ultimately it all depends on what ideas you have in your head.  Above all, write for yourself, not other people.  Best of luck!

Val's advice is right on point. I'll add the idea of maybe sharing your first piece we just a couple of people you may meet here. And remember you're anonymous. If someone doesn't like what you write they won't tell your friends at home.

What Valkyrie said. I would just add... don't let fear stop you. Write something, then fiddle with it until you like it... you change it 20 times if you want to. Then send it to an editor or beta reader, or both. Opinions are important, but in the end, like Val said, you have to write for yourself. If you do, it will be a very rewarding experience. There is a ton of help on this site... you just have to explore, and ask. I wish you luck, and good writing... Cheers... Gary

Just start writing--and try to take feedback from more experienced authors and readers in the light it's given. Most people you'll come in contact with here on GA just like to help each other out.
