Bereft at goodbye

Wagging tail forever still

Bark no longer heard

That was a sad one... Good, but so full of grief.

I just had to put my dog down, and me and my kids are really hurting...

My best friend is gone

Pain of my loss consumes me

Hate this part of life

I am finding this exercise in haiku a real outlet for my emotion today...

Looked at me with trust

Life seeped out while I held you

It had to be me

A friend feels loss, grieves,

a companion’s journey’s end,

a life well lived.

young man bereft, grief stricken,

Cherry’s journey ends.

I apologize, I know we are writing haiku not tanka but ...

 

Cry lamentations,

soft tears falling, mine, God’s,

the sky weeps with me

in shared grief, my face heavenward,

beseeching, yearning for comfort.

No nails clicking on pine floors

Our sentry is gone

Tail thumps on the floor

Begging at your food cupboard

Missed pain in the ass

Bite marks on blue Frisbee

More tears from an endless well

Couldn't throw it yet

As sad as your feelings are, I so appreciate you sharing them like this. That's one of the beautiful things about haikus. One feeling, one thought each. Like mindfulness. Such presence!

This one devastated my daughter... I ended up taking her outside, and we went for a walk, and talked and cried... and then we were okay....

Post away, Gary.  These are heartbreaking and moved me to tears, which shows you how well done they are.  Writing can be a great catharsis.  Keep writing and sharing.  We are all here with you, sharing your pain.
