I have had a few squabbles with various departments or people at the university since my accident and had to file several complaints. One department head asked why I was filing a complaint when a I had resolved the issue by dropping the class. I remembered this quote I first saw in high school civic, and finally found the source:

First they came for the Communists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Communist
Then they came for the Socialists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Socialist
Then they came for the trade unionists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a trade unionist
Then they came for the Jews
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Jew
Then they came for me
And there was no one left
To speak out for me -

This quote is obviously about standing up when you see wrong no matter who the victim. But it also states we are interdependent. "They came for me" has shaped much of my beliefs and fueled my thirst for knowledge about other cultures. Not just different countries, but groups and areas within my own.

“Love is life.

All, everything that I understand,

I understand only because I love.

Everything is, everything exists,

only because I love.

Everything is united by it alone.

Love is God, and to die means that I,

a particle of love,

shall return to the general and eternal source.”

Leo Tolstoy

"God saved him. The cow helped." — Uncle of a two-year-old boy from Chelsea, MA.

His nephew survived a sixteen-foot fall from a second-story window. The boy was bouncing on his bed and bounced right out the window. Lucky for the boy, he was holding on to a large stuffed cow that he safely landed on. The boy received only minor injuries for his misadventure.

"Remember this, boy. All dwarfs may be bastards, yet not all bastards need be dwarfs." And with that he turned and sauntered back into the feast, whistling a tune. When he opened the door, the light from within threw his shadow clear across the yard, and for just a moment Tyrion Lannister stood tall as a king."
