“Talent alone won't make you a success. Neither will being in the right place at the right time, unless you are ready.  The most important question is: 'Are you ready?'" ~ Johnny Carson

Some people forget that Abraham Lincoln was actually pretty good at predicting the future:

Quote

At what point shall we expect the approach of danger? By what means shall we fortify against it?-- Shall we expect some transatlantic military giant, to step the Ocean, and crush us at a blow? Never!--All the armies of Europe, Asia and Africa combined, with all the treasure of the earth in their military chest; with a Buonaparte for a commander, could not by force, take a drink from the Ohio, or make a track on the Blue Ridge, in a trial of a thousand years.

At what point then is the approach of danger to be expected? I answer, if it ever reach us, it must spring up amongst us. It cannot come from abroad. If destruction be our lot, we must ourselves be its author and finisher. As a nation of freemen, we must live through all time, or die by suicide. - Abraham Lincoln, January 1838, Lyceum Address

The speech was inspirational as Americans still feared European and external encroachment at the time, by telling everyone that such an event would never happen, he inspired hope and courage in independence. On the other side, he also inspired fear as he clearly saw the divisions within the country that been born since the founding (a topic better left to the Pit), he inspires both courage in American independence and fear of American self-destruction.

I think Lincoln gave a timeless speech in 1838, not just to his issues in the 19th century, but to greater issues that can be applied even in 2017.

For those who may think the above quote as too cerebral, we can venture into Lincoln's poetry, which has a touch of light baby blue:

Quote

For Reuben and Charles have married two girls,
But Billy has married a boy.
The girls he had tried on every side,
But none he could get to agree;
All was in vain, he went home again,
And since that he's married to Natty.

"You can talk with someone for years, everyday, and still, it

won't mean as much as what you can have when you sit in front

of someone, not saying a word, yet you feel that person with

your heart, you feel like you have known the person for

forever....connections are made with the heart, not the tongue."

~C. JoyBell C.

Every writer has a reason, an ideal on writing:

I draw inspiration from William Faulkner's famous Banquet speech on the pitfalls of modern writing that focusing far too often on the situation rather than the humanity:

Quote

Our tragedy today is a general and universal physical fear so long sustained by now that we can even bear it. There are no longer problems of the spirit. There is only the question: When will I be blown up? Because of this, the young man or woman writing today has forgotten the problems of the human heart in conflict with itself which alone can make good writing because only that is worth writing about, worth the agony and the sweat.

-William Faulkner, Nobel Prize, 1950
