Not cause he's political—sorry to break it to you, but Doctor Who has always been blatantly political—but because he's just not that good a show runner. With any luck, he'll get better, though. EDIT: Also, they didn't do a New Year Special because of 'snowflake preachy SJW' stuff. They did it because they were out of ideas for Christmas themed specials and wanted to do something new. Whomever told you that must have been some crazy conspiracy theorist, because there really is NO 'war on Christmas' in the UK. They don't even say Happy Holidays.
