That's one of the draws for me. Needing to fit my thoughts into that structure helps me focus.

Did you read AC 's new book?  The intro is really good, very inspiring and interesting.

You’ll figure it out, tim. If you want to. You don’t have to do everything all time time. :)

Morning, everyone! Or afternoon in my case. I didn’t sleep until now, we just had a lazy morning. Made bacon and eggs for breakfast, had some tea, talked a while. Boyfriend has a sinus infection, we think. Let’s see if I can avoid getting one, too...

hehe ... you don't know me too well ... even if i only ever write one properly ... yeah, i have to.   Tanka are subjective and should have the poet's feelings and pov.  The ones i've written don't feel right to me.  I posted one on Live poets, and what i think about it ... we shall see.

right now i'm gonna get ready to go back to the doc's again... i slept all night, coughing like a dog this morning, feel weak all over and just want to sleep ... either i'm still sick or my mental state is much worse than i thought. FML, seriously.  ugh

Hope the doc can help either way. Sucks feeling that way no matter what the reason.

As for the poetry, I stand by the first part of my statement, then: You’ll figure it out. You’re a marvellous poet, and you’re not lacking in the feeling department.

Maybe write one about your feelings about winter? :P I like winter, myself, though as previously established it doesn’t get as cold here as it does over there, so that might help.

Good Morning, DiC'ers.

Visit to mom went well this morning. Then a trip to.... Target this time. And still didn't find what we were looking for, even though the websites for both Target and Walmart says the item is in the stores.

Then my every other day visit with a weight-machine... sore A.F. right now, and they say don't skip leg day. What they don't say is the rest of the day it will hurt to walk. LOL

Think of leg day as practice getting older... when achy legs isn't the result of working out.

dear lord i hate counting syllables ...

I've got one set counted.  Is there an expectation on the five?  I might manage one a day.   And my hatred of winter is showing up in the results. :(

Really sorry to hear that, tim. Hope it gets better soon!

i had had choir practice today. We’re competing in October so we started working on our repertoire for the competition. Some good stuff in there. We’re doing this one song called Northern Lights. The lyrics are a verse from the Song of Solomon in Latin. Our conductor has decided we sing it in the sacred music category, but... it’s from the bible, but I really don’t think it counts as sacred music. It’s literally a love poem. Of course if I tell her that she’ll just be offended, so I guess we’re singing a love poem...

The HaHa is in response to the contradictory nature of the Song of Solomon in general.  To be a little bit cynical, certain parts would have been borderline porn not too many years ago, and that's without falling back on my favorite Tom Lehrer quote.  Perhaps that explains why that part of the Bible wasn't emphasized too strongly in Sunday School.  Maybe singing it in Latin tips the scales to the religious side.  I hope you'll report back how the adjudicators see it.

Will do. It’s a beautiful piece, don’t get me wrong.... I just think it fits better in the like voices category. And yeah, Song of Solomon is often deeply erotic.

The lyrics we sing translate as follows:

Thou art beautiful, O my love,
sweet and beautiful daughter of Jerusalem,
Thou art beautiful, O my love,
sweet and comely as Jerusalem,
terrible as an army set in array.
Turn away thy eyes from me,
for they have made me flee away.

Nice.  Love song, indeed.  The last three lines make me think good old "Sol" was struggling a bit in the relationship. ;)
