As I met up with friends (basically the members my current "social bubble") early this afternoon, and we had a takeaway in one of their houses (mine being fish & chips [fries, if you must], I didn't feel hungry enough for a dinner this evening. It's currently just after 11:00pm, so I shall have two slices of toast spread with some of my wild blackberry jam for supper.

I think calling it anything other than 'fish and chips' would be sacrilege   Here, we just say 'fish fry', and they're very popular on Fridays.  Some restaurants will have fish and chips on the menu, though that's the only time they're called 'chips' and not 'fries'.

In parts of Scotland (Glasgow for certain) they're often just called "fish supper". But I think that's largely because they are often purchased late at night on the way home from the pub.

The best fish and chips I ever had was at a British Pub in Minneapolis.  Cole Matthews and I went there for lunch and got the fish and chips, plus bangers and mash, and split the portions.  It was some of the best food I've ever had.  :)

My new teak back door. I've not finished varnishing it yet. It needs three coats, and each coat is taking about 2 days to fully dry with the weather having turned cool.

I love the sepia tone.  It gives the photo a real antique look.  Is there something fragile in the box by the wall?

When I taught second level in England, I used to tell the kids that I had a zip in the back of my head, and always left my brain at home before heading to school, as it was the only way I knew of facing the little terrors darlings each day.
