Popular Post raven1 Posted January 4, 2022 Popular Post Posted January 4, 2022 Hi All! Sawasdee Khrup! 🙏 Hope you all had a great day. Mine is just starting, but should be good. My house cleaner arrived for the weekly purge of garbage and dirt from my condo. She is an awesome cleaner, and I feel better for days after she does her cleaning. ❤️ It also gives me a chance to get out to shop or have coffee with friends while she cleans. At my age a little luxury like this goes a long way. 1 6
Drew Espinosa Posted January 4, 2022 Posted January 4, 2022 Sawasdee Khrup, Terry! What is it like to live in Chiang Mai? 4
Popular Post raven1 Posted January 4, 2022 Popular Post Posted January 4, 2022 1 minute ago, Drew Espinosa said: Sawasdee Khrup, Terry! What is it like to live in Chiang Mai? Hi Drew! I do love it here. I also love Oregon where I was born and grew up. I left to see the world and get away from cloudy, cold winters. Chiang Mai is the second largest city in Thailand, but is on the small side for big cities. The weather is usually great year round with moderate to hot temperatures and a few rainy, cloudy months in summer. The Thai people are very welcoming and helpful. They love to enjoy life and if you are polite and respectful they will include you in their celebrations and their lives. Living expenses are low for most things, except when something has to be imported. You can't own land, but condominiums can be purchased. My condo cost about 25% of what a similar one would cost in the USA. Food is plentiful and cheap. You can go to a top restaurant with friend, order a feast and pay less than going for burgers at McDonalds. Thais usually eat family style, unless it is street food, which is also great. There are huge shopping complexes that carry top line international products for sale, and bargain stores where you can buy inexpensive clothes or kitchen devices. The Thais are very tech oriented, so the internet and phone service are excellent and cheap. The many movie complexes are plush with 10 to 12 theaters, showing international and Thai films in English, Thai or at least dubbed in those languages. There are several sports complexes, art and history museums, as well as outdoor markets selling food, clothing or various crafts. The worst part of living here is constantly checking in every 90 days with immigration, but that has been made easier now. It use to take 2-3 hours. Now it can be done in 10 minutes. Thais had to change what they did because of the foreigner stuck here by covid. It was so successful they kept the changes. As far as sex goes, Thais are very sexually accepting. You can be serve by a ladyboy in a bar, government agency or local store and no one even notices. They don't make judgements or conflicts. If you are laid back, accepting and don't get angry, then they love to be around you and accept your friendship. It does place a burden on foreigners, however. A friend who is a foreigner is often perceived as rich, and the rich are expected to help those who have less. It is both a result of their Buddhist beliefs and Thai culture. A "loan" is rarely expected to be repaid. I don't consider this a problem, since I pick my friends carefully and know when to say "no" politely. Hope this answers some questions for you. If not, just let me know. 2 5
Popular Post clochette Posted January 4, 2022 Popular Post Posted January 4, 2022 (edited) This is so weird. It's just past 6am here and I've just heard the upstairs neighbor (the loud and annoying one) making some weird noises, like he dragged something big and heavy wrapped in plastic down the stairs and outside... a rug? A body? His wife's body wrapped in the curtain shower??? Then when he came back inside he was whispering to someone. Yeah coming from him the whispering is almost as, if not more, suspicious as the plastic noise. And yeah I haven't gone to sleep yet sooo that might explain the crazy imagination... though I'm totally checking the big common bins outside later Edited January 4, 2022 by clochette 4 3

Some curries and salads are not spicy enough. 1 4

Doing good here, it sounds like we had a similar day. I was out shopping, picking up parcels, running errands. Still a few things to do but I don’t think tomorrow is the day to be running about, 40C is only good for sweating. The good news is it is cooling down to 38C for my booster shot 6

The good news is it is cooling down to 38C for my booster shot Glad it will be a bit cooler, but that is still damned hot. I am staying at home tomorrow also, but have plans for Thursday again. It's more of the variable holidays here. My pharmacist was open Monday, but closed for the next two days in compensation of being open on the 2nd and 3rd. They will also be closed for 4 days the end of the month for Chinese New Years. Not a problem, but I do have to plan ahead for these. 4

A heatwave in time for the return of school That is about when temperatures begin to rise again here. Being in a closed environment like a classroom with aircons recirculating air is a bit frightening. I hope that the next wave of covid will be even milder. Yes the moat is live and well. Chiang Mai has made several improvements in sanitation and infrastructure. Open water drainage is now enclosed, power lines and poles are new and stronger, and Chiang Mai has many new buildings, malls, business districts and urban housing. You have to travel a lot further out from the city to find rice fields. Edited January 4, 2022 by raven1 5
