Brad led the way back down Canal Street and across the bridge on Sackville Street to Sackville Gardens, a small but welcome park among the many bars and office buildings in The Gay Village. On one of its many benches sits a statue of Alan Turing, the disgraced but later pardoned code-breaker from the Second World War. Brad described how the park comes to life during Manchester Pride with a stage, small pop-up bar and vendors selling street food. When the weather is good, many people will sit on the grass with drinks throughout the year.

Brad stood in front of Alan Turing's statue and spoke with respect. “This man was important in the war we owe him a lot. Even now, he helps many of us. This will sound stupid. I've sat here with him many times, pouring my heart out, to him. I know he can't do anything because he's just a statue, but it always makes me feel better when I talk to him about what's on my mind. I sometimes wonder how many others have and still do the same thing. So, even in death, Alan Turing is important and serves his community.”

All of the lads were enthralled by Brad's description of Manchester Pride. They were more impressed with his knowledge of Alan Turing and the touching way he described his contribution to the war effort and his importance to the gay community locally.

 

 

Awesome. "The Imitation Game" was a great movie. I had no idea of the story until I saw the movie. Benedict Cumberbatch gave an outstanding performance. Good luck with your story, Man.

I think Benedict Cumberbatch did a brilliant job of portraying Alan Turing. Many of us didn't know much about his story as it was top-secret work carried out under the Official Secrets Act. I believe his pardon came about due to a feeling of guilt on the part of the UK government. Some people think that his statue should have been placed in a different location, but I think it is fitting where it is. Sackville Gardens is in the heart of Manchester's Gay Village which places him in the heart of the community to which he was a part. The idea of people talking to him about their troubles may seem far-fetched but it is actually true, I think others may appreciate knowing that fact.

I didn't know the statue even existed. That makes me happy.

You can google it to see a photo of where his statue sits, it is in a beautiful setting. And he gets free admission to Manchester Pride every year, lol.

I have never actually seen the film, but I read quite a bit about the man in a couple of IT classes in college.  He revolutionized the world in ways that weren’t fully realized for decades.

Hey, lovey day here too. Currently 74/23° with bountiful sunshine, low humidity and a lovey breeze. I should be outdoors weeding but I'm not feeling myself. Don't know who it is I'm feeling but most definitely not myself ... hehehe, that was punny. Seriously, I've been having some rather serious nosebleeds.  Four in the last week, the most recent during my morning walk. They come on quite unexpectedly and last between 5-10 minutes. The blood literally runs from my left nostril. Only way I've managed to stop them is to pack that nostril. This is unusual for me. Sometimes my migraines include minor bleeding but nothing like this. I've had migraine all four days so perhaps that's the cause. Mum wonder if my bp is up or if this is something to do with the Tepezza infusions. If it continues I'll call the doctor. Meanwhile, I'm gonna take a wee nap. Blessed be y'all.

I hope the nosebleeds clear up quickly for you. I suggest you consult your doctor and I hope it is nothing serious so he can deal with it, take care and look after yourself.

I thought as god you were omniscient as well as omnipotent so it would seem to be within your capabilities. We, as mere humans required time to come to a full understanding of the essential Drewth before we could put a name to the phenomenon. You should take pride in your superior achievement.
