I didn't mean to offend you. I know Groundhog Day is a "tradition"; but to me, it seems silly to create an entire holiday based on something so unscientific. They are pretty cute, though. 

Hi Page. We're okay. You didn't offend me. I know modern Groundhog Day is silly and in places where it's celebrated most of that celebration is over the top spoof. However, remember that holiday is based on a tradition that predates most of what we know as science. Science for them was studying the cycles of the sun, moon and stars. The behavior of animals and nature around them. February was a cold, dark and hungry time. Eagerly awaiting the return of light and warmth and more abundant food was and still is a primal human trait when you lack any of them. Science says reindeer can't fly and physics suggests it's impossible for a fat man in a red suit to fit down a chimney, elf or not and yet those thoughts make for a lot of very happy kids in the middle of the darkest time of year. So embrace the silly as a reminder that we dwell in a far different time then those who came before.

I called the company after they left, and the crew just came back and cut the logs into smaller pieces. Then they cut the stump. I think they were pissed.   I know... a boring story, but I love getting justice. They should not have ignored me when I waved them over that day.   Don't mess with the crotchety old man.
