DarkShadow Posted September 8, 2006 Posted September 8, 2006 I started writing this Story July 23, 2006. I've finished about 75,000 words (17) chapters or so and I have received a lot of positive feedback. It is, of course, what motivates me to continue. You can find the story at Nifty.org In the Gay Male, Sci/Fi section. Titled Earth Reborn. I learned of this place through feedback. After the fifth or sixth mention of this site I decided to drop by. Very nice! It's more than I expected and I hope that I can offer something. I'm sure I'll learn, which is my ultimate goal. Before you read the story, keep in mind please, that it is my first. I know I have a TON to learn. I have a terrible affinity for typing the word 'waste' instead of 'waist' so there are some comical sentences. I don't have the best grammar, and my spelling has a lot to be desired. I work on both each day. Thank you for your time and I hope to be hearing from you soon! Take care!
Site Administrator Graeme Posted September 8, 2006 Site Administrator Posted September 8, 2006 Hi, Shannon, Everyone has to start sometimes. I still cringe when I read the start of my first story, so don't worry about it. I would strongly recommend trying to find an editor. It is almost impossible for an author to correct their own work because they have a natural tendency to read what they expect to be there, rather than what they actually wrote. There are a number of editors here and they may be able to help. Good luck with everything! Graeme
AudioAl Posted September 9, 2006 Posted September 9, 2006 WELCOME TO GAY AUTHORS.ORG, SHANNON! I think you'll find -- as I did -- that GA is just an incredible "community" of PEOPLE. People who enjoy both reading, writing and discussing QUALITY gay-themed stories. I'd like to quote Graeme, the member who posted right above me, who recently described GA perfectly. He wrote: "We are a group of like-minded people who support each other and this place allows us to relax and be ourselves. That doesn't mean that there aren't disagreements and fights, but overall it's a place that encourages -- and that's the core of any community. "The stories may be the body, but the forums are the heart and the members the soul of GA ." Like thousands of other people before me, I came to GA for the stories...but the people who actively particiapte in the Forums made me want to be a part this "community". I now spend more time at GA than any other site. I recently joined the Editors group ... which, indeed, has a roster of members that are eager to help authors with any of the facets of story editing. I strongly encourage you to contact "Empathy", who heads up the Editors group. He'll be eager to match you to an editor, if you like. I was recently paired with one of your favorite net authors to help him edit his ongoing story. I can tell you without a doubt that it has already been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life! There's also a Beta Readers group in the process of starting up. In short ... almost any kind of help and support an author needs can be found right here. Just wait 'til you get acquainted with the many awesome people who also call this place home. Need help finding your way around here? Don't know how something works? Wanna get something off your chest? Well, there's a great guy wandering around the Forums who goes by the GA nickname of C James. He hides behind a goat that wears sunglasses...but he knows this place frontwards and backwards. He's my "go to" guy for "anything GA". In fact, I'll let him know you're here. He'll find you in a flash! In fact, there are fantastic people just like C James everywhere at GA ... ...AND I CAN'T WAIT TO HAVE YOU MEET THEM! AGAIN, SHANNON, WELCOME TO GAY AUTHORS.ORG!
DarkShadow Posted September 9, 2006 Author Posted September 9, 2006 Wow! Thank you both for the fabulous welcome. I hadn
C James Posted September 9, 2006 Posted September 9, 2006 GA is a friendly place, so I think you will enjoy it here! We have a lot of great people here, plus we even have dedicated teams to help in certain areas, such as the Writer Support Team. Welcome!
DarkShadow Posted September 9, 2006 Author Posted September 9, 2006 I've added the third revision of the story to e-fiction. (finally with much help from The Everknowledgable Goat!) Thank you. https://www.gayauthors.org/eficiton/viewstory.php?sid=162
