Oh to be fifteen and trying to figure out am I normal, what is normal, how much non-standard is allowed before it becomes not-normal, etc. It’s pure chaos with a very questionable feedback loop providing new inputs to question for more confusion and more chaos…oh, and my pants can’t hide my confusion and, and, 😣 . Poor Levi has had his whole reference system thrown out and he’s having to figure out a new one. New dad…new reference system…new dads, new house…with new people, a tribe, but maybe another reference system, new family. Oh goodness, not just in courts but I know they need guards on wells and as much as practical the perimeter of the livestock active pastures. Tag and Ash need to lay low and to be on watch for …hell, even assassins, sniper or up close, either is game with a man that already threatened murder upon his own son. That’s physical and mental anguish that haunts his soul. How refreshing that Tag says the words that seem to cement Tag becoming a bigger part of Nasser Ranch. Whether Tag wants the headaches of management or wants to feel the grit of the land himself, Ash looks to be a firm part of the equation.

It may take state or federal agencies to match up all of Zane’s mahjong financial blocks but then Jenga; the house of cards Zane’s been building to steal from Tag will come tumbling on his head. Apparently he holds deep seated resentment that his father would en-TRUST Tag with the Yoder Kingdom he feels is rightfully his. So every trick to hide or reassign assets, to obfuscate into his empire, has probably been done. Even the branding was probably to discredit, ban, and shun the rightful heir that was coming of age to claim his inheritance. Zane, a real piece of work to not trust his son to include him in the operation of Yoder Ranch. So his actions have instead ensured his exclusion…if not imprisonment for multiple felonies against multiple parties.

Oh the memories. 😝 Basic has only weeks to grow recruits the same that might otherwise take years for youth on their own; gaining confidence and learning their own strengths and weaknesses. And yes, building bonds and friendships that will forever be engrained as part of your life. Randy seems to be a kindred soul that Kent can relate to; someone that may likewise gain and share strength together.

I keep telling them these senior health and wellness questions are rife with age discrimination… I’m retired, I don’t care what day of the week/month it is. I just check occasionally and then count how many more days to the next appointments.

Seeing how Eric’s dad was a respected and upstanding rancher, it make me wonder if grandpa Yoder wasn’t perhaps a great friend that had invested in the Fleming in years passed but wouldn’t move to take over a dear friends ranch…or perhaps a marriage of years passed had the dynasties tied indirectly. So ironically, old it be that the bank can’t consolidate all the investment holders due to not knowing where Tag is?

That would be a very interesting twist indeed; any agreement Tag would need to sign would require…a big ole red hot branding iron.

Trust me I'm not arguing for the grandfather. It’s just my reflection that there’s more that we don’t know than what we do, so while on the surface he seems harsh and very domineering, much of that is judging from a teenaged Rachel’s opinion and then from a teen aged Levi’s opinion; yet it was still a safe place for Rachel when she was desperate. If he was still alive and interacting with the main characters, we would know whether he a was a daddy-dearest father or a man perhaps dealing with many hardships himself. I.e. we don’t know why Rachel’s mom is not still in the picture and what impact that had on the family. It seems to be a tragedy of early deaths..or perhaps her parents were more senior when she can along; making the older traditional parents more understandable too. So please don’t take my chat as criticism, it is just discussing the story and speculating about the whys and how’s we got to is point. The focus of the story is taking us of Levi’s journey though, so I doubt we’ll have much backstory and my speculations will be nothing more than just exactly that…speculations.

But life is Play-Doh, so in all fairness to the grandfather we don’t know all the dynamics and influences that made him the way he was in his later life. We know his teen daughter got pregnant… By a boy that turned out gay… But what did the grandfather know? It appears to me that Levi’s mom never confessed who the father of her child was. We also don’t have the full picture and impact of bringing a grandchild into the family at what appears to be grandfathers expense and responsibility at that time; that is a lot to take on, especially if work and retirement options are limited at his age. While abortion and/or adoption is not something that everybody can or will embrace. The life long impact upon not only the young mother(parents) and those that will ultimately bear the burden of that responsibility is not without serious consequences; the associated expenses, while transitioning to fixed income, health of the responsible party, impact to retirement age and financial security of an individual that had no part in the pregnancy and/or decision to keep, surrender, or terminate the pregnancy child is significant to the burdened party. Levi’s mom chose to run away. Whether to keep the baby on her own or to protect Matt (in her eyes), or to hang on to what she had imagined her life and family with Matt would have been. Either way, she went to the point of desperation before returning to then place the burden back upon her father, Levi’s grandfather…while he has remained in the dark about the father and while he has had no choice in what has been brought to his house of responsibility. We just don’t have a complete picture of all that impacted the grandfather, and probably never will as that is beyond the scope of Levi’s journey, so I reserve the most critical of criticism upon the old man. He did take them in, he did have justification for rules and structure…under his roof (responsibility); And he did help raise Levi to be the young man that Matt has already shown his devotion for and cherishes so deeply. While the grandfather turned to his religious community and they appear to have been more secular from mainstream perspectives, we just don’t know the backstory and implications behind what made the grandfather so strict and cranky. So I’ll accept that he helped give us Levi and that he, like most of us, was less than perfect…but he did take on responsibility that was not of his makings.

Yes, the near slip of the gay house reference by Casey could have possibly been out of habit living in his habitat. Hopefully it’s not just a ploy to reel Levi in for nefarious reasons. However, even if Casey is sincere, the nature of his family environment will put both young men at very high risk of harm due to the Thompson tumors.

Yeah, the wolf dressed in sheep’s clothing seems to be most likely, as Casey also most slipped to say the gay house. He was far enough away from his buddies it would seem to be his normal character and Levi would probably be best to remember that reference. Another tasty looking sausage shrink wrapped in a great skin suit…too bad that it comes from a slaughterhouse with a history contaminated meat.

The internet is a terrible teacher, and unfortunately the bloggers, influencers, and game programmers are setting the bars very low. Why people are not canceling these bad actors is amazing. Why are ads being bought or even run on bad channels. It’s a free for all as accountability is nil and respect is about as considerate as a face shot in some random game. I have a young adolescent boy that comes and goes fairly freely at my house. It’s a constant battle to filter content that is not appropriate…when his argument is that he can watch it at home. I tell him then go home and watch it, but no watching it here and no talking like that here in my home. Though his home life is quite different than what I allow, he loves to come spend hours on most days. He has opt’d for a quick spanking rather than being escorted home to tell his parents how he has abused my hospitality with something more significant in damage or disrespect; though they wouldn’t really care themselves, they would probably restrict his visits coming over. So most of the time Im able to elicit a little moderation in better behavior. Its a workout at times, but I just hope to be a better influence in his life rather than taking the simple way out and sending him home without visitation as an option. I hope to instill more respect for himself or at least teach him how others will judge him by the respect offered others even when not expected.

Smile and wear that nickname with a smile. It will either pass or become just a hallway nickname, as closer friends will respect your preferred name or nickname. The smile would be the largest when explaining to the unassuming as to where that name came from….oh, just a nickname from bullies that never paid attention to roll-call or actual names.

Wow, a lot said. Often overlooked too is building confidence in kids to spell up; defend themselves and as Matt spoke hopeful that friends speak up when the ill of others is being spoken or forced upon others. My kids were ok about speaking up…until my youngest. She seemed to internalize her feelings and allowed others to insult her through words and inconsideration. So friends of convenience were not uncommon yet she would internalize and suck it up…were I would have told them ask their regular friends as I have plans with my own friends. Bye bye 👋.

Hopefully Jimmy isn’t going to be teaching from his own hard knock life in junior high. It didn’t seem Jimmy was ever picked on for being paired with “Churchie” but that’s not a sure fire sign of not having experienced the rath of the aggressives.

Oh how naive, accepting, and nonjudgmental I was growing up. A one street over neighboring elementary school classmate had an older brother of 1-2 years, his name was Churchie, at least I accepted it as churchie. Not until years later did I learn his real name. Ironically, many years later he did become a preacher and had his own congregation. The same in college, I learned through some hallway conversation that a friend was half Japanese. Dummy me was surprised but he was just smiling and made a circling his face hand motion while asking…you couldn’t tell?? 🤦‍♂️ I just accepted people had different looks and features but that was just our individuality. Judging even by name was beyond me in most cases, I likewise told a coworker I didn’t know he was Jewish; I didn’t pre-judge just because his name was Feldman. 😆 I guess my grandfather’s words stuck to me , making me think about being judgmental. When I was trying to understand my own heritage I asked if I was Cherokee. His response, you don’t worry about that, if you don’t tell people won’t know. He was very private about our heritage and it kinda got translated to mean the same for others. That was very good advice for the days of old, perhaps now it’s ok but then again…
