  1. Taking that first step is the hardest, and while there isn't any overnight 'cure', the path forward begins...

    Chapter 12

The Pope will not take the news of the sacking of this city well... There is much to be answered for, for the slaying of the innocents was a step too far... Danilo certainly proved his mettle, and that he's got the courage that no one else had that day...
  3. Just a delightful story to read, there's so much I want to say, well, I did in my comments and reactions, but you need to read this, seriously...you need to read this story!!!

    Chapter 1

I have to thank my father for the ability to colorfully curse, and he was the master. While I never actually timed him, he could go on and on until whatever storm had crawled up his backside passed. I clearly remember the day he was moving large rocks in what was going to be our front lawn. He was using a six foot steel bullpoint, a type of crowbar, easily three quarters of an inch thick as it tapered to where one would hold it. Long story short, neither the large rock and the bull point were cooperating, much to my father’s frustration. And by the time he finished cursing up a blue streak, both the large rock and the bullpoint were not the same, the rock moved and the bullpoint had a slight curve where none was before.

    Chapter 2

Thank you, as you can tell, this was a very difficult subject, it never fails to make me question my sanity that we live in a society that accepts children need to die, and for what!
  7. Peter may not be wrong… “Will you listen to yourself?” He shouted. “You sound like a crazy person right now. I’m not your boyfriend. I was wrong for kissing you. It was a friend helping a friend.” “A friend? Since when have you been a friend? Peter, I’m not stupid. I know what I felt. You were hard.” Peter threw his hands in the air. “I’m a sexual guy. My cock gets hard if the wind blows. It doesn’t mean I want to date the wind. You have to get over this idea of you and me being anything more than what we currently are.” His frustration was evident, and his words were laced with poison for my heart and feelings.
  8. Thanks for this and comment 10,001 or is it 10,002?

    Chapter 27

So much now depends on the men, material, and other goods that Louis needs to further prosecute the war. So much of this needs to be imported, as the support he once enjoyed is fading. Shortly, he will be facing a war of attrition, and time becomes the enemy...
  13. I grew up in the trades; my father was an architect. When I was old enough, I would work weekends and summers on construction sites. Later on, it is how I put myself through college. And like most of my generation, my degree qualified me for employment in fields that paid less than construction work. It took some time to find the right fit, with the right company, and starting at the very bottom, I worked my way up over 35 years to a corner office on the executive floor. And when I say starting at the bottom, duties included changing out the stained ceiling tiles, fixing broken plumbing, most of the time with a plunger, to sweeping sidewalks and parking spaces. At the same time, monitoring who was using our dumpsters cause the bastards were too cheap to buy locks... over time, I became a project manager for renovations to our buildings, seven offices nationwide, and managed a yearly renovation/office improvement budget worth millions. Thanks to you, I can never look at drywall the same way, ever again...😉

    Chapter 11

I find that both Danilo and Lauretta are most perceptive of their surroundings and the larger world... Gianluca continues to astound me, for someone of deep faith, how does he reconcile his nature or those whom he is now working for??? “I thought I had lost you,” Matteo said. “You did,” Gianluca answered. “But the road is long, and God has poor memory.” Matteo gave a faint, broken laugh. “Then perhaps there is mercy in forgetfulness.” Gianluca’s hand found his, brief and sure. “Or in remembering what should have been holy.” The smell of wet grass on Gianluca's cloak evoked memory of the old days, stolen kisses in an orchard by the Arno. The moment held... fragile, forbidden, true. Then it was gone. Gianluca stepped back, his voice low. “We’ll both return to Florence soon. Be careful whom you serve, Matteo. Even prayers can be treason.”
  19. Change is difficult when the incentive is lost in the weeds of "We've always done it this way".... Those most resistant to change are the ones most likely to lose position or status...
  20. So many great stories here!
  21. From the bottom of my heart, thank you for this! Just so true to life and so believable!! But you’ve scared me for life as I will never be able to look at drywall the same way again!!
  22. Well…that got me going…hot damn!! He didn't ask—he just acted. He dropped his hips slightly, hooked his thick forearms directly under my hips, and hoisted me upward and forward in one fluid, powerful motion. It wasn't romantic—it was a forklift maneuver. @@@@@@@@@ In all my years in the trades, I’ve seen drywall and I’ve seen drywall in all sorts of states of completion, but I will never look at drywall the same way ever again… @@@@@@@@@ Dan let out a rough, startled groan. His hands dropped to my hips. His fingers dug into my jeans, pulling me flush against the hard ridge of his erection. "Rami," he gasped against my mouth. "We're covered in drywall." "I know. It’s so hot," I growled, biting at his lower lip.

  25. Another gem from the collection of Robert Hugill. Exceptionally well written and crafted. While trying not to give anything away, all I can say is read this!
