    Chapter 7

And I have to remember the moments, infrequent as they were, that brought a smile and joy to my life. Caring for them made me a better person in the long run. I joke that I got my children while they were in their 60s. What the heck, I had a station wagon, two dogs, and a cat that thought he was a lion, but that's a story for another day. A group of friends and I will travel yearly to see our football team play a game in a different city. One year, my sister offered to watch Mom while I went. The morning of the game, I got a call from her, telling me Mom had fallen down her cellar stairs, and the hospital would be calling me for permission to treat her. Long story short, she had broken her shoulder, and after surgery to repair it, she would need a month or so in rehab. Before coming home, I had arranged for adult day care, and my job could exist around her schedule. I would bring her in and bring her home. One morning she was a bit late dressing herself and coming out for breakfast. I walked into her bedroom to check on her. Her back was towards me, and it looked like she was struggling with her blouse. Asking if everything was ok, she turned to me, and her bra was half on/off, as was her blouse. That morning, after getting an eyeful, I discovered that I could help Mom get dressed while standing behind her...

    Chapter 18

If it has to happen, pray it ends as this one did... "What happened?" "We grew old." Christopher's smile faded. "Both of us?" "Yes." "Together?" "Yes." Christopher looked back towards the sky. "That sounds nice." "It was." "How did it end?" Marco was quiet for a moment. "Peacefully.

    Chapter 17

My reaction to this chapter was sad. Sad for the fact that if all goes to the curse, and Christopher and Marco haven't reason to believe otherwise, that within the near, foreseeable future, Marco will be alone again in the very near future. That on some level, Christopher knowingly is faced with the certainty of his death, tho not the manner or timing. Not sure I would have the strength to be as calm or accepting as he is, or portraying that he is, knowing the immediacy is inevitable. Between Christopher, Marco, and Vale, have there been or will there be efforts/plans to break the nature of the curse?

    Chapter 7

This worries me, made up words on the spot.... “That’s certainly true.” Thokk allowed himself a grin, but his stomach clenched. After nudging Korgar in the right direction, he’d led him into the temple with Khartikk’s permission and read the smoke for him there. Well, actually, it had been more of a show than anything else. He’d blended the herbs so that someone unaccustomed to them would experience mild hallucinations. Korgar had been so impressed by this—along with Thokk’s words, which he’d made up on the spot—that he’d begged his teachers and his father to listen to the shaman’s apprentice. It had worked. “I’m proud of you, Thokk,” Gash said, squeezing Thokk’s shoulder. “You have a tough time ahead of you, but I’m sure you’ll feel more at home in a court than in a fort or at a tithe bride selection.” And is Henry obtuse as to Thokk's inclinations or receptive to them???

    Chapter 5

I missed this chapter and am glad to have gone back to answer a question I had been thinking about, and confirmed Thokk's dilemma and his realizations... He wanted that, too. The playful words, the tender glances, the gentle care. He wanted someone under whose hands he could close his eyes with trust. He wanted to be worthy of that trust. He wanted to share this with this human blacksmith’s apprentice, whose resonance spoke to him. He wanted Henry.
  24. As @dboggs9700 noted, if I were stuck with Elliott, if I did not kill him, I'd stuff something else into his mouth... As a former facilities manager/director for two office buildings in downtown Boston, two things stuck out to me: all of our elevators had to have a dedicated copper phone line for emergency calls, not dependent on any building systems. Secondly, our buildings were required to have emergency backup generators. The purpose was to allow all life safety systems to operate in a power outage, and to provide minimal lighting and HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) on every floor, including an elevator recall to the main exit floor/floors, 1st fl and basement. At that point, the elevators could only be operated with the firefighter's or elevator mechanic's override key, provided the emergency power was working. Now, having said all of that, all these backup systems are moot if there is a mechanical issue with the elevator.

    Chapter 17

Vance hasn't a frigging clue... "And that’s just the first, easy-to-find batch of files," Static added, not looking up.
