  1. so has anyone looked at the new nook, by B&N?
  2. I wear a watch -- a Timex Expedition with a brown leather strap and glow in the dark face/hands for casual wear which I only take off to shower (and sometimes to sleep) or to wear my other watch, which is a brushed silver (SS) link (so it don't shine) for dress-up that I got in high school. Neither is a real fancy watch, but both serve their purpose, and each fit, which for me is a major factor. I have rather small wrists. I guess I would use the phone more for telling time, but looking at my wrist is so ingrained it hasn't been retrained yet. On the otherhand, DC doesn't own a watch, prefering to use his phone, ipod, or other electornic device.
  3. gads listen to the egos roar none of them then again you are a queerling yourself so... yeah none of them
  4. There are lots of good stories on GA in efiction. The problem is what is good to me is not necessarily good to you. You can check out some of the story threads in the various author forums for a "preview" if you want, or the story cafe, or you can use the various search methods in the archive or efiction to narrow down your selections. Or you can keep doing what you have been doing, which is what most people do -- read a little and if you don't like it -- move on. Yeah it seems like it's a time waster, but sometimes you find some true gems. Good luck hunting.
  5. HOPPY DIRT BAY!
  6. heh he's muzzled and under threat of being neutered... other than that please don't feed the beast and um... stay back 50 feet... yeah... that's it.
  7. oprah can do anything she runs the world just ask her
  8. I too have been looking to make this leap.... I read a ton of ebooks, mostly purchased from fictionwise.com they have a reader or three they suggest, which is neither the sony nor the kindle model btw. the autodownload feature of the kindle is nice, but the books all seem to be $7 - $10. I can get a paperback for that, ebooks should be cheaper, they are paperless and cost much less to produce. I like the way the sony touch looks and handles (saw one at bestbuy) I have yet to see a kindle up close and personal, not so sure of all those buttons at the bottom, but some people just love them, so I don't know. for me it's a huge decision sorta like mac or pc, and it should be easier than this!
  9. meh the knee jerk reaction is more or less because there have been some people who have come here in the past and posted a link and that is it... usually all over the place... it would have been a whole lot better had you posted a bit of text with the link introducing yourself, and explaining the link, but we all live and learn. my site is completely off site it is not "illegal" people go there if they want, it is listed under this post as a link. occasionally I post things on this site, using their software. it is not required, but encouraged. there are other authors on this site who post primarly elsewhere, some are moderators. be yourself. just let us know who you are when you are being yourself, please, it keeps misunderstandings from happening. thank you {this public service announcement is from the desk of the Lughbie}
  10. so, are you sticking around this time or not? cause I'm a little confuzzled... then again, that's not all that unusual. situation normal it seems... carry on!
  11. I would watch Disney more often if the leading guys actually looked like that....
  12. sounds like someone is lazy... and to think the title of the course is social ethics
  13. You are completely wrong. Slash fiction does have the / between the coupling like m/m or f/f yes, but it is typically set in a world where there is not any homosexual couplings such as the original star trek or harry potter. Slash is TYPICALLY written by women FOR women (to get their rocks off) and is not sold nor marketed nationally (nor even locally). On the other hand, there are a lot of nationally marketed books with homoerotic themes written by both male and female authors. They are the creators of their worlds. Therefore they have not borrowed nor stolen them, thus created them with homosexual-friendly elements which makes them not fan-fiction, thus not slash. The Nightrunner books are excellent reads. Lynn is a very fun person to talk to. She encourages fan fiction (including slash) by the way. She gets a kick out of reading it too and has a forum where her fans can post fiction and art dedicated to her stories. Way kewl author there.
  14. Actually, that would be a no, David. King Arthur is a historical figure, per se, and authors are free to play with his tale as much as they like with no reprocussions from pissed off copywrite lawyers who do not want their "universes" mucked with by mere amatures. Delores also does not write FAN FICTION she writes ORIGINAL FICTION which is the big distiction here. Maybe you missed that part? Slash deals primarly with fan fiction. Always has, always will.
  15. I think Wiki does a pretty good job of explaining slash. Personally, when I think of slash I think of homoerotic fan-fiction written by women, generally for women.
  16. ok...
  17. raises hand... hands... both of them... I don't... love spongebob... at all... he sucks.
  18. herm... he was in Twilight...
  19. ah I just think that there is a creative gene that is closely linked with the gay gene, if one is flipped on so is the other even if the person does not acknowledge it.
  20. I die in embarrassment for you who like(d) the care bares or my little pony and will not admit his own obsession with the teletubbies.... unless of course I already did...
  21. happy b-day Paya!
  22. People saw the date on things like calendars and newspapers and the like. I'm not so sure I believe how observant some people claim to be in this show.
  23. Two opposing views here: I wasn't thrilled. DC loved it.
  24. There are private donations where you can donate to family members or someone designated (these are usually living donations though, such kidneys or bone marrow, but some are post mortum) and only the parts requested/required then there is a general donation where all usable parts are harvested. The person who fills out the donation forms decides which type of donation it is and the process moves on from there. As a parent, I can understand your position, Neph, but being on the other end of the stick really changes your perspective. I would want another kid to live and another parent to not have to worry will my kid find a heart or a lung or an eye if DC were to come to an early end. It would be hard, but I would sign the papers and let them have as much of him as they wanted.
  25. When I took DC down to get his ID, we had a long discussion on what the little red heart means (organ donor) and why a person would want to do that or why they would not want to and what organs are donated and how they could save another persons life. Now, you must understand that DC will one day need a kidney to live and his organs may or may not be usable to another person, but he chose to allow them to determine what is useable and what is not useable in the event of his untimely demise. I thought that was very brave for a 13 year old. As for your scenerio... I think all personal feelings should be set aside and the organs should be donated. Your family member may be a good preliminary match but the secondary matching may not be a good fit so the organs would go to someone else. Would the family give permission for the organs to go to someone else? And what about the other organs? Would they only be donating to family members or would they be harvesting them all?
