  1. Then there are people like me, who use off-site people mostly, who don't even see the final product, and/or who would prefer not to be acknowledged. Yes, there are some behind the scenes people. No, I'm not telling who they are.
  2. counts on fingers, toes, dick, and nose... I AM NOT 30! grumbles... go read "Wingless Dreams"....
  3. you guys are sooo silly... it's not my birthday... yet.
  4. I've thought about it... quite seriously... even thought about managing my own imprint for a while... but honestly didn't know where to start.
  5. hey guys (and gals) I know poetry is a rough thing to like comment about... especially poems like this... and well honestly I don't mind if you don't like it... or do.. or whatever, but I had to write it, so I did and now it's done and maybe I can write something else. Anyway, could you like just let me know you are reading it, even if you don't like it, or understand it, or whatever.... thanks.. Lugh
  6. that has a lot to do with it... sorta like the over inflation of post counts on the forums right now... some people just have always got to be bigger or better than everyone else.... bah... ignore me... I'm grumpy.
  7. do you know how hard that is here lately? I swear there are a few I just want to SMACK upside the head and take my time in jail... it's almost worth it. maybe if Myr started taking 2 posts away from them when the post chatty type stuff on the boads where it does not belong they will stop... especially if you have to maintain five to open most the threads.... snickers... thinking evil thoughts again... sorry.
  8. and this is where I agree... but there are other authors out there who have posted the poems as individuals... which is where the guidelines need to come into play.
  9. dang it Joey you are supposed to at least let me have my illusion of being ignored. what is with people anyway? I mean none of the hosted authors are really posting much... if anything... I've been in a slump for months myself... maybe it's just some weird writing bug that is going around... and what is with all these "authors" who think that writing for 10 minutes AND NOT EDITING is a good idea of something to actually POST? hell if I did that I would need my own server cause of all the crap I write like that.... those are EXERCISES not actual "stories".... at least have the decency to label it as such. Oh and the porn / unedited crap that keeps getting sent over to efiction -- can there be some rules put on that to keep it from getting to be like nifty? I mean seriously... it's getting deep over there.
  10. grumbles I've been reading the forums here of late and I've noticed that a lot of people are getting either chatty or snippy... they complain about getting compliments because the compliment isn't in the right thread and tell people don't compliment them in "this" thread cause that is what the review system is for. Sheesh people take a chill pill -- take your compliments and smile, say thank you, and move on. then there are the people who cross post their crap... ok I know they are "authors with benefits" but that does not mean they get to post in more than one announcement forum... announce it in the one that it's best suited to... and go away so other people can announce crap too. sheesh.... maybe I'm just getting grumpy... maybe I'm just getting pissed... I don't know.... what I do know is there is a lot of stupidity going on with some of the "new" people who think they know everything and all the old timers are hanging out in the wings either watching or saying/doing nothing. I would say something. I might say something. I will probably get slapped again if I do. So I will say it here and hopefully no one will notice.
  11. I would like to see set guidelines as to what constitutes a series and what does not. Especially in regards to poetry. Also, not to be rude or priggish, but I think that once an author is bumped up to "hosted" or whatever.. with their own webpages... then they should no longer post on e-fiction. I would think that takes up some resources. I'm sure I will think of other things... so reserving the right to post more later.
  12. snickers... I thought I would test that "more than a little bit of oddness" comment by actually speaking up in this thread... which by the way is awfully full of "chat room like chatter" sheesh... get a room guys (and gals)... oh yeah.. um... welcome.
  13. If it helps, most states have a Romeo / Juliet law... where the age of consent is waived if the relative ages of the persons in question are within 24-36 months of each other. So seventeen and nineteen / twenty would be "acceptable", although one is a legal adult. I think it also depends on the story setting... say modern stories would have people 17ish and up, but historic fiction may have characters younger (say 15-16) while science fiction or fantasy can do most anything "age wise" so long as they characters are at least pubescent... I mean seriously... elves can be just entering puberty at nearly one hundred.... right? Just use common sense and it should all be good.
  14. I have written flash fiction, and the definition has nothing to do with time and everything to do with length... ie generally under 1000 words is considered flash. I do have some up on efiction, if you all care to look.

    Haiku

if you are looking for some decent haiku which do follow the rules.. look at my poetry anthology... there are at least 100 haiku / tanka in there on various subjects
  16. Why take a life partner? Take them where? It's not like you really get to choose your life partner / spouse -- at least in my opinion. It's more like you look up and -- bam! -- there (s)he is and you go... oh wow! This can be a slow process that takes years or it can happen overnight. Each of us is different. Each partnership is different. With that in mind, I think that a person's significant other is significant for a reason... they somehow compliment or complete something in that person that may or may not be recognized by either party. I don't believe in happy-ever-afters. I do believe in hard-work-ever-afters. A good relationship takes work -- ANY relationship -- even that one you have with the co-worker you hate! meh -- I've probably not made any sense... but that's ok... love doesn't make sense... then again neither does hate. Interesting that.
  17. I don't know Ieshwar, but all I've ever gotten from Nifty is the mis-catagorizing of my story and FLAMES from readers. Add to that their "we hold the electronic copyright forever and no, you can not revoke it with out giving us something else in it's place as we are an Archive" policy turns me off completely.
  18. E-fiction not treated seperatly from the stories on Gay Authors. It is a part of Gay Authors' stories, but the authors there are not (yet) hosted. It is often thought of as a field left fallow: sometimes weeds grow and sometimes flowers. The flowers are cultivated, and often transplanted into hosting status. The weeds are left alone and hopefully they will wither and die off, leaving fertile soil behind. E-fiction is the place people can post the poetry and / or prose they write. It is a sort of virtual library (and there are many stories you will find in e-fiction that you will not find on Nifty) unlike Nifty, which is an archive. Nifty (IMHO) is geared toward gay porn with forrays into the field of homo-erotic and/or fetish fiction. E-fiction is geared more toward quality writing (or at least that is the goal). There is some porn. There is some homo-erotic fiction. But there are many other types of writings there as well. I'm sure others will say other things.. but that will at least start you off.
  19. Lugh lives near a salt marsh. Lugh has no ex's. Lugh likes the salt marsh.
  20. I've read this thread and thought about it, and read it again.... I think there are a few things to point out here before I can answer -- are we talking "sex" or "intercourse"? intercourse is one act of sex, but there are so many others that do not include penetration of any sort that leads me to believe that a healthy and active sex life is totally possible and relatively safe for all parties with the proper precautions (like condoms at all times). I also would have to consider at what point in the relationship did the person point out that they were HIV+? If we had been exclusive for while already and this was not new test results... then I might have some serious issues, but if we were headed toward exclusivity and it was revealed.... or there were new test results.... I might be shocked but I think what we already had building would survive and maybe thrive. Also I think it would depend on the other person's attitude toward sex, promiscuity, and above all else... medication. All that said... I think it might be possible under the right circumstance to engage in sexual activitiy with someone who is HIV+, but the chances of me finding myself in those circumstance, I believe, is very very slim.
  21. I personally have a hard time writing reviews in e-fiction for many authors. This is for many reasons but mainly because most of what is in e-fiction here lately is crap that only nifty would publish. Three times out of five I can not get "past the fold" -- the first part of the text before I have to scroll -- due to grammar/spelling/usage issues or really cliche openings. If I do get past the fold, the story HAS GOT to keep my interest. Half the time it does not. Of the one time that I can finish the first chapter and get to the review page, well, I try my damnedest not to sound mean, half the time I do. I delete the review. Sometimes I try again. Most the time I do not and I hate to leave a "good job" review when it really wasn't a "good job". Maybe I'm just too critical. Maybe other people aren't critical enough... who knows.
  22. actually -- we use a lot of audio books because my son is dyslexic and we get them from the library (not that they have like erotica there or anything) but I can see a market within a market... the biggest problem I would have is like with my stories... the names are not easily pronounced or someone may pronounce them differently than I do. This is especially true for made up names.
  23. That might be because it is a really long poem (an EPIC) and not a book.
  24. there are authors who write in more than one genre, many under pen names due to the cross-contamination of readers expectations. Voice... voice is something that develops over time, often without the writer being aware that it is being developed.... sort of like balance. I'd like to think I have a writer's voice. I've been told I do. I don't really "hear" it though in the writing, but maybe that's because we, as writers, are deaf to our own voices. I think it would be fun to have people (authors who supposedly have a voice -- or think they do) write a short story on a theme (like an anthology) but don't put the names with the stories... and then see how many people can match the story and author together via voice, style, whatever.
  25. I really don't think co-writing would work for me. I have enough of a difficult time with editors (snerks) I really don't think I want the headache involved with actually WRITING with another person. However, I do like a "sounding board" at times, not quite the same thing though. Although, in the past I have done the RPG thing where one person leads the plot and other people play a character or three and toss "real life" monkey wrenches into the plot... that is fun... but I still think it would take one person "re-writing" the story to provide a constant style.
