  1. With Oli maturing and helping Teddy. It all makes me think of an old Harry Chapin song: "All the world's a circle, sunrise and sunset,..... "
  2. looks like the next section is the beginning of Jamie's wander. Looking froward to it
  3. Lovely characters, Jamie and his family are sweet. Give us a bit more local colour to anchor them in place
  4. They are wonderful but 13 spoke best to me
  5. You capture the essence of reunions which is probably why i avoid them. High school was bad enough the first time around.

    Ripped

We know the cure!!!!! But I guess patience is also required.

    Growing Up

Just as I thought that we were headed safely into home base [cue dramatic music] A huge cliffhanger. I am hoping that it is not Mark. But that is like condoning that it is okay for a stranger to be stabbed rather than a friend. If the victim is a stranger, there is a path for recovery as part of the Haner/Sullivan family

    Growing Up

It was embarrassing reading about the band giving Oli sex advice, really bad sex advice: underlined by the fact that in their forties they are acting like adolescents in their bar pick-ups or let-downs. When rock stars are not always sexy when they are creepy. Astor the chapter, it was amazing
  9. John, I wasn't downplaying your contribution, just remarking on Joh's writing here as part of the thread. You both are making a wonderful seamless work together

    Chapter 9

The boys are facing typical homophobia. Thanks Ron for showing a broad and nuanced range of responses to Kevin, Cameron, Stanley and Charles by the school as well as Charles weighing whether to face the music or hide out at home for a bit

    Second Chances

"Before we knew it two turned into three and three into four. I don’t know what’s happening between us, but we just can’t keep our hands off of one another. I never expected our sex drives to be this high at thirty one," First off 31 is still young and secondly isn't sex nature's sleeping pill. The rest of the chapter would be heartbreaking if it wasn't so heartwarming. Very touching! It's good for Oli to see the difficult things and also how Ryder and Teddy support each other through it.
  12. There is a old cliche that sums it up: "You are only young once but you can be immature forever"
  13. Joh is a much better writer that James Patterson!

    Mr. Sullivan

The drum battle was harsh. It is more than Tommy having cancer. Tommy is the band's longtime drummer. It is never easy to be eclipsed. It is even harder to be eclipsed by a young prodigy. The way it played out Tommy was teated poorly. He didn't really know Oli's skill beforehand and it was humiliating to be taken down by him. This story talks a lot about bullying and within the perspective of the band dynamics they turned Oli's striving for acceptance into a bullying moment.

    Mr. Sullivan

Mark and Wendy are thirteen and it is just a detention. Every kid should get at least one or two detentions, if not they are not growing up and testing boundaries. Standing up for something may have a price but it is worth it.

    Chapter 8

I really like how you broke the norm with mother's being more accepting of gay sons than fathers. They are just people and their acceptance or prejudices are not confined to gender.
  17. yes there has, but only one: Kim Campbell, and she was only Prime Minister for a little over 4 months between June and November 1993

    The Barn

After I have picked myself off the floor I want to congratulate you on a fantastic chapter. it only took 60 chapters or so to get there!!
  19. Lovely chapter, I was worried that Jill was manipulating Oli a bit at first but it seemed heartfelt
  20. Even if he doesn't NEED their support I hope that he take full advantage of it

    Chapter 7

“I never thought the day would come when I would tell one of my sons that I wish you weren’t mine.” Devin tried to contain the smirk on his face. Mr. Williams towered over his son. “I wish you weren’t my son, Devin.” I was relieved but not overly surprised that Kevin's Dad was going to be accepting. But I am really shocked that he would talk of disowning Devin for intolerance or anything. I can understand him being disappointed, ashamed of his actions, or even disgusted by his actions. There is a difference between a feeling about what Devin did and what he feels about his son

    The Scoop!

The folks might have their own ideas about Oli participating in an interview - 14 remember!

    Unity

Oli is thirteen going on 37. Sometime he seems more emotionally developed than Teddy: a bit of an old soul in an adolescent's body. Teens sometimes want to be treated as grown up and sometimes still need to be kids. Adults sometimes have differing expectations of teens: adult responsibilities and more limited privileges. The mismatches lead to the fireworks.

    Changes

yup, there are a lot of rose coloured glasses right now and surely some bump in the road but I am actually hopeful that they are headed in a good direction.

    Chapter 17

Interesting - sometimes saying twice as much in half the time has only a quarter of the impact. I'm surprised the jury didn't glaze over - i am afraid I did.
