I only just found this thread. I’m so happy to hear that you have moved through your rough time. I’ve often felt this system of connection between writers and readers has sucked writers into more than is realistic and may have been one of the reasons that several of my favorite prolific writers have disappeared from the board. Hope you can find your way back at a level of endeavor that works for you. Pax.

It’s Called (Not) Club David
Gandalf commented on Rip Skor's story chapter in It’s Called (Not) Club David
Used to go to Montreal but way earlier. Oooh lala. Thanks. I’m aboard. -
Wondering if our friends at Goodwell are connected to the cartel? So good to have this moving. We know Zack isn’t a dumb jock butttt. Hope Your Holliday went well and that 2018 is kinder to You. Pax

Were we that young? Amazing clip. Just the beginnings of all the crowd mania to follow. Thanks.

Hard time of year to sail that direction. Really fun to watch the homecoming as the kids grow and the home fires mature. I will await the cliff harpies by dredging Hornblower out of wherever he has sailed in my library. Thanks as always.

Northern Exposure: General Discussion
Gandalf replied to Mark Arbour's topic in Mark Arbour Fan Club's Topics
I read and re reread Hornblower and did book reports from eighth to twelfth grade on Forester. I refer to this as the Gay Hornblower series. They are from such diverse social spheres that it is hard to get beyond a "Harrumph" in their relationship. Yet you are correct that Horatio did earn support from powerful and well connected colleagues, so George's support and friendship is not surprising. Thanks for his presence. Hornblower has been somewhat overshadowed by other and I find that unfortunate. Pax. Steve -
Chapter 26 Vladek Meets an Old Friend

It is good,to be back reading your adventure. I do wish you had an editor as many of the paragraphs have their sentences reversed for some reason. -
Northern Exposure: General Discussion
Gandalf replied to Mark Arbour's topic in Mark Arbour Fan Club's Topics
I wrote book reports on Hornblower from 8th grade through twelfth. My twelfth grade teacher thought I ment E.M. Forester. He later suggested report on Evelyn Waugh. I think he knew I was gay long before I was ready to admit it. I am so very glad to see George and especially you back, Mark. Pax. Steve -
A well developed tight short story. Like several others have expressed, I would enjoy following these two further. But thanks for this. I wanted to write adventure here. That speaks well to your skills given the fairly non adventurous subject. Thanks for your work.

[DomLuka] Domluka's Extreme Hiatus
Gandalf replied to NaperVic's topic in Promoted Author Discussion Forum
Dom was one of my first addictive writers here. Like a number of other great authors here at GA he has disappeared. I wish them well and dream they might return. I occasionally re read some. I hope a new writer will grab me in the same manner. So far that has happened. Pax. Steve -
Having raised my sister's kids after her death as well as two foster kids and my own daughter I can really identify with the parent part. As a bi man I raised most of the kids with my partner involved. I also was a Child Welfare worker(as you showed it doesn't have to be an oxymoron) most of my life. I always have enjoyed your stories but understandably this really attracted me. I felt you really hit most everything on the mark. Thanks for all your work. Pax. Steve

I was thinking that this chapter was like when friends I haven't seen in a long time come by and we can pick up with time being meaningless. I'm a geezer so health issues surround me. Hope yours only slow you down temporarily. I will truly miss the thought of not following these friends you have given us into their future lives. Wish you well. Pax. Steve

Thanks. This holds up and is as painful but human on this re reading as the first time around. I hope I am wrong that this Inauguration Day does not join your title Day or November 23 1963 in our collective memory. I am hoping to move through the next books and read the chapters you have added while I've been rereading. My family and friends will be glad not to constantly see me crying or chortling or trying to explain what is going on in these books I'm reading. Thanks to you and your team for all your work. Pax. Steve

I remember how rough my job was and how my three teens were driving me nuts...and how rough that all was. Then none of that was important any more. How nice that for the moment Robby is in his corner. I've now been rereading CAP for a solid month. I so don't want to face what's coming but am such a fucking addict. So glad Mark is better moving this along. I think! Pax. Steve

In my mad re read of the series I think of this as one of my least favorite books, thinking of the Brad/Robby bullshit. I forgot about the Mission and emergence of the boys. I could stand for a few less tears for a bit too.
-
Interesting how insular even Steven is in world knowledge. Good to be reminded that even then not everyone was gung ho. So fun to be sucked through the series again. And this one of my favorites.
-
I am just re reading the series and am in B Rad. So funny to compare Young Brad to Will or to go back to young Stef and J P. Will be interesting to see where Will's plans lead. And per usual what the cliffhanger leads to. Thanks for another drop of sand in the Days of Our Lives. Pax. Steve

It is always good to see who steps up when needed and fortunately Alan has friends who are there. Nice chapter.

Funny to be back here after speeding through the first three books. The perspective of Stef to Brad to Will is even more out there as is the "Predator " aspect of these guys. I was thinking that as a history major from the 60's it is fun to revisit all these issues and times with all this fun and drama which I never would have imagined as a historian. Yet I have had a fine life raising two foster children and a niece and nephew as well as my own daughter. I also, in 1991 reconnected with my male partner from the 60's and continue in that relationship. I also sailed, across the Atlantic in a small boat and lived in Spain for several years on it(dang the participles ). So I've had a fun life just missed out on all that sex. So glad you are back.

I had somehow thought of rereading this book as though it would be a chore. I'd forgotten what fun Stef is as a narrator. Cconsidering I started this odyssey four days ago to check out the changes made to the first seventeen chapters of CAP ... Egad not a good time of year to be so waylaid by these old friends. Pax. And thanks again.
-
This is my third, possibly fourth, time through CAP. I meant to check out what changes you were making and chain read the whole addictive thing. No one in my life is happy about this lack of attention the last two days. Anyway I'm glad to revisit these old friends and remind myself what a predator JP was and can be when the occasion arises.

Chapter 16 Vladek Meets the General
Gandalf commented on Tallguyct's story chapter in Chapter 16 Vladek Meets the General
I continue to enjoy both the story and history lessons. This chapter mainly moving along your plot. I've been disappointed that there don't seem to be many readers. I've enjoyed both stories so far. Pax. Steve -
What a great job of picking up the threads and nuances of plot and character after this amount of time and personal drama. Soo glad you are back for your sake most especially but also selfishly for ours. My partner has had CLL for ten years and generally is responding well to a drug that he gets after being part of a trial. But it has been up and down and he is more selective in what he does now(might be due to our age too). Hope you path goes well. Pax Steve

Chapter 14 What Happened to Franz?
Gandalf commented on Tallguyct's story chapter in Chapter 14 What Happened to Franz?
What a powerful chapter. Franz like so many men of that era survived despite the deprevation of the war and all that was happening around them. Thanks for your work. Steve
