I became an diabetic at 4, so my routine was to go trick or treating and then go to the nearest hospital with a children's ward (there wasn't Children's Hospitals back then ) and drop off all my candy for the kids there. My reward were little bags of Sunflower seeds that I loved (and still do). I'd be damned if I was gonna swap my sunflower seeds

So have you woken up today with a candy hangover? Or worse, for those of age, a real hangover from partying too much? Well time to pack away the ghosts, goblins, ghouls, and drama queens (like that will happen ). We had a little different week here at the GA news blog for this most festive weeks of the year. Monday saw our monthly CSR Discussion Day. This month we not only had 1, not 2, but 3 stories, hahahaha (done in my best Count voice). Three stories were up for the month to be read and commented on. Gee Whillickers, Cynus and Bill W were our featured Authors. Cia asked all 3 some questions about their own experience with Halloween and how it played into their stories. Wednesday was a very, very, very special treat with Renee giving us our 4th Word Search. If just the thought of doing a word search hadn't scared you away, then the fact that she scrambled up the words that you had to find must have sent everyone screaming and pulling their hair out. If you didn't get it all figured out, here at least is the unscrambled words: Ghost, Pumpkin, Happy Halloween, Candy, Costumes, Bats, Spiders, Spooky, Trick or Treat, Scare, Jack-o-lantern, Haunted, Mummy, October, Witch, Vampire, Skeleton, Boo, Haunted House, Candy Corn, Monsters, Werewolf, Goblin Friday was the most skariest Prompt Me! in a long, long, long time, as I had to do it for the first time. The second was using a Tag of 'Murder'. There may have been some insinuation that I may be eliminating certain staff here at GA, but I'm totally innocent . Hi Everyone Turns out that I'm helping out in a pinch with this weeks Prompt Me! blog entry. Our prompt guru Wayne, aka Comicfan, and Renee are shall we say 'indisposed' for now. Since I'm not an expert here, I thought I would copy a Prompt Me! that was originally posted on October 17, 2013 by Comicfan. I thought why not give this another go to share your Spooktacular writing skills with all! Prompt 270 – Creative Tag – First Line “Because, I’m leaving you.” Prompt 271 – Creative Tag – The Murder You had been invited for a vacation, and happy to get away from your daily life quickly took it. Once you were dropped off at the island, you found you were one of only four people there. All of you had been invited, but none of you seemed to know the host, and you all seemed to be stuck with no way off. There was the fully stocked house, a pool, and all sorts of luxuries, but no phone service and no way off till the boat came back. That first day was great until the storm hit, knocking out the power. You went in search of everyone else, the group of you all came upon the body of one of the other guests. Who committed the murder and why? Will you survive to get off the island? And no, I did not murder Renee or Wayne or Cia......yet Last week there were 3 responses to the two prompts given, lets take a look at all 3. Prompt 457 Creative: "To say you loath spiders would be a gross understatement. However, you woke this morning and couldn’t see out your window, there were spider webs as thick as a curtain just outside your window. As you make your way around the house you see them everywhere outside. What is going on that you have so many spiders at your house?" We have this Halloween themed story by albertnothlit called The Pact Prompt 456 Creative: “How did I forget his birthday again?” First was an entry by JohnAR in his 41st entry in Metaprompts Second was an entry by jamesavik which is a continuation of Cadet Cruise Remember the prompts are here to help you write, explore new ideas, and try things you might not otherwise attempt. I searched way, way, way back in the gallows of GA and couldn't find too much. I did find a private team forum back when GA used to do a newsletter but I don't know if it was a newsletter or if it was posted in a forum. Either way, here is what the interview was, enjoy: Interviewee: Shadowgod Interviewer: Phantom (Eric) We recently interviewed GA's own hosted author, Shadowgod. He's the author of such stories as 'Dreams & Clipped Wings,' 'A Shot of Bourbon,' 'Living in Surreality' and other stories. He is also a familiar figure on the forums and can usually be found in his own forum protecting himself from accusations by the goat, the tech support forum helping members with various questions, and sometimes in C James forum keeping GA's resident goat on his toes. Taking time out of his busy schedule we interviewed him hoping to shed some light onto our favorite Shadowgod. GA: What brought you to GA? SG: As the goat so lovingly likes to point out whenever he gets a chance I have been around the whole "online gay fiction" scene for a while. Mostly on nifty's IRC chatrooms. Anyhow I had several friends there recommend Dom Luka, as in the world would cease to spin and the sun would fall from the sky if I didn't read. So, giving in to peer pressure I came and checked ol' Dom out. I read, and read and there was a link to his forums, and the rest is history. GA: As we all know you won the Best Hosted Story award for 'Living in Surreality', How does it feel? SG: I don't remember but I do remember hearing the news and being honestly shocked. Reason being CJ gave me the good news and I thought he was having a row with me. It took me a few minutes to even believe him. Its not everyday the newest hosted author wins the Best Hosted Story of the year award, not to mention I was up against more seasoned and decidedly more popular GA authors. It was kinda cool, like a Disney sports movie where the under dog wins in the end. GA: For those who haven't read your stories what type do you write and why? SG: Well for those who haven't read them they are definitely gay themed. That aside, they are more a slice of life romances. I dunno I just can't wrap my head around the energy and action that another author has mastered. I like my conflict more blurred, Life doesn't have a bad guy. It's just a series of interactions between desperate people with their own motives. GA: How did you come up with the name of Shadowgod? SG: I know it doesn't seem too possible but I am rather reserved when I am not hiding behind a computer monitor and an Internet connection. That coupled with the fact that growing up in a large family there are certain members that can and do fade into the background. That was me. Plus I wanted something that sounded cool... I was 16, give me a break. GA: Where did Blackheart come from and why switch to Shadowgod? SG: I've always had the screen name Shadowgod, or some variation on the spelling. Blackheart was created as a pen name to protect my closeted rear. That idea however was a double-edged sword. Those where my words, and people would praise this blackheart fellow. I didn't care for that much, I didn't like having to tell people, no I wrote that. So when I joined GA I figured I'd retire Blackheart completely, and just be me. GA: Does it bother you that your old name 'Blackheart' appeared as a bad guy in CJ's story 'For The Love?' SG: Nah, I had a good laugh about that. I got even, and its not the last we are going to see of the mounted goat. For the lack of reference, it was the eating crow chapter in D&CW. GA: How do you get your ideas for the stories? SG: Life mostly, or hopes of what life can be. However, I don't start stories with a set plot, My writing stems from the character. Once I come up with a character, they write their own story in many ways. I may take bits and pieces I experience and throw those in but for the most part the stories I write evolve. I do however have something different I'm working on that should look familiar to anyone who has heard of Blackheart. GA: Care to give us more of a hint? SG: It plays a lot on the lore of the vampire and Egyptian mythology. GA: Do you do anything else on Gay Authors besides being a hosted author? SG: I do a few different things. I work with tech support, doing the coding for my own site and the sites of a handful of our other authors. I also help members that have technical problems in the forums, and technical issues with eFiction. I'm a moderator, though, I think that is kinda my side job for the most part. Then I have been known to dabble in the newsletter from time to time. GA: I've read your poem that you have posted entitled 'My Frailty,' why don't you write more? SG: Me and poetry disagree... If I were to write more of them, I'd be too involved in perfecting the poem to do much of anything else. 'My Frailty', I felt everything in that poem, and as great as I think it is. I'm not sure I want to go through that again for a little poem. GA: Which story of yours do you think was the hardest to write? SG: Everything has its own challenges. As far as having a concrete direction, the hardest is definitely Dreams & Clipped Wings. For a while, I had five or six different endings. GA: What is this I hear about SPiCE in the forums? Can you give us a little input into this? SG: Ahhh SPiCE, Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Eric. Its a bit of a running Joke at CJ's expense. The Eric is Eric Carlisle from his popular "Let the Music Play." He was putting poor Eric though all manner of horrible stuff. It was really uncalled for, so I started a grassroots effort to put an end to it. GA; What is it like to work with GA's resident goat and why does it seem that he pins all blame on you? SG: First of all he eats my chapter notes, that should tell you something right there. Why does he blame everything on me? I dunno, perhaps its the way goats show love. Like the little boy and the little girl. Girl likes boy she kisses him. Boy likes girl he pulls her hair... Just kidding honestly the ribbing is double sided, the goat just partakes in it more than I do. That way my ethos is on solid ground. There is a parody in here somewhere... the goat that cried CLIFFHANGER! GA: There have been rumors that you have added (or at least suggested adding) evil cliffhangers to C James' chapters. What have you to say about these accusations? SG: Funny how the only person (quadruped) that makes these accusations, is the one that would face the ire of his readers. I mean I've never heard Graeme post that I included a cliffhanger in one of CJ's chapters. In that vein, consider the source. GA: There seems to be a lot of controversy surrounding chapter 26 of Lost in Surreality, mostly perpetuated by a certain goat, do you have anything to say about it? SG: I have a lot to say about ch. 26, namely that it could have been worse, a lot worse. I know a someone who likes to point out the phrase "last and final." What he doesn't tell anyone is that he added one of those words in his beta of the chapter. My fault I accepted the addition. GA: How did you achieve such unrivaled mastery of Cliffhangers? SG: I read the goat, CJ taught me everything I know. GA: How did you become so purely evil? SG: Again I had the extreme and very painful tutelage of the goat. GA: Does it ever bother you, even a little, that you are so hideously cruel to your characters? SG: Cruel to my characters? If you think I'm cruel you should see what the goat has in store for MY characters under his matted fur. GA: Do you wish to add anything before we finish the interview? SG: Just want to give a big thanks to everyone who has read what I write. Bigger yet to the people who have commented on the forums or via email, even though I'm bad at replying to emails.

Monday was our monthly C S R Discussion Day with Cia doing an interview with Graeme. Some different questions were asked by Cia and then you, the readers took over and asked your own questions of him. Although there is a major time difference it went over without a hitch. How many times have you been able to have your answer come back before you actually asked it in time? Wednesday took a different spin for our Premium Discussion. Cia outlined how any of our Writers who may be motivated to write a Premium story for the site can, and how you can earn cold, hard, cash for your efforts! This is great opportunity for our Authors to receive some revenue or receive help in getting your completed story so it can be published. Once again, this is small way that we thank our Premium members for helping keep the vast majority of the site free for all. Friday had the prompt guru Comicfan give us our weekly dose of Prompt Me! Thanks everyone spent the the day up by a lake in the Rocky Mountains listening to waves lap against the shore, eating a wonderful dinner and watching a beautiful sunset over the ranges to the West. Spotty internet up here but had to pop in and say my thanks.

Like Cia mentioned, it must be horrible that anyone as an Author finds out that someone has stolen their personal work and are trying to take credit for it. That's must be a horrible feeling when it is learned. On on the good side ( have to find a positive), our site has gained so much in having both Cassie and Gee joining and sharing their work with us!!! Tuesday had Myr take over the blog and give us the information about the new Political Forum called The Pit. This is a place that has been designated to discuss topics such as politics that have previously not been allowed on site except for the blogs. There are some strict ground rules and you do have to buy a $0.00 membership to post. Hoping it will keep the highly controversial topics off the rest of the site. Wednesday was a great Interview with the author of Noah's New Plan; Rob Colton. A bit different interview in that Cia asked him about his Wednesday Briefers flash group. I know many of our Authors participate in them, and it is great to see Rob has put out some great stories, and more to come, using this method. Friday, the prompt Guru Comicfan posted directly to the blog for Prompt Me! The first prompt was a creative one using the words; notebook, pen, coffee, a crystal and a broken light bulb. The second one was using the tag of The Gift. Check out both of them and hopefully will get the creative juices flowing. Wasn't sure where to post this, here or in the Sports Bar. Here won out. Yesterday was the annual Labour Day Classic between the Calgary Stampeders and the Edmonton Eskimos in the Canadian Football League. Usually this sell out game has one or two disruptions from streakers or just fans trying to run across the field. Yesterday, something happned that must go down as the best endzone celebration EVER in football!!!

I would say the 102 y/o reciepient of a 77 year delayed doctorate and the 8 y/o Cerebal Palsay Tri-athlete were the two that really touched my heart

Hi Graeme First off, thank you very much for taking the time to write this story and especially for sharing with us all!! A few things on my mind. Knowing these would be spoilers if answered, but just putting them down so we can maybe look back at them in the future. First off, with the draft, I'm wondering if the draft will be the sign of the end of next year's Leopards. I do believe that Deon, Dave, Brat all should be gone in the draft. Dad, I'm not too sure of. I still have the feeling that Patrick and the Blues invited Jim to the training for publicity as well as they knew the Brat would most likely come too. Ty is the one that they are really after. So 3 or 4 of the main characters on the team move on, will next years rookies be enough to substitute for them? Also, with Peter gone, we now believe Julie will take over the team. Will she have the talent to carry on the level of play without him? The 3 coaches were as much of a team as the player this year. Neil and Liam, you have more or less made us believe that the two of them are heading off to Uni soon. Guess I don't know the school terms in Australia opposed to North America. I do believe they have some time left before finals and they graduate? If they do, do they have a 'summer' break before they head off to Sydney? Neil's mom, I think she finally got the message when Jim's mom knocked her hand away from grabbing at the tissue. Rather than looking at the fact the Neil is leaving her for a lifestyle, she maybe now realizes that he is his own man and their will be a place for her. If she just relizes that he isn't leaving her, he is growing up. Last thing that comes to mind is a major compliment to you Graeme. Your description of the play and the rules made me reading the Grand Final, feel that we were in the stadium and could picture the guys on the field. You did this by giving us information, but not overloading us with second by second details of the play of every game. The fact that i know what a ruck, a handball, a mark, the 50 m arc, what a goal and a behind, where the forwards, midfielders and defenders all are and what they do is a testiment to your writing skills. I do believe you said in Leopard Cover that you weren't a huge fan of Australian Football, but you make it like you are the country's #1 expert on the game I think I could finally watch a game and know what is going on. Oh, Charlie and his climbing the back of the opponent. I remember a couple of years ago in the CFL (Canadian Football League), aka North American Football, a team was attempting to kick a field goal (3 pointst) and one of the defensive players literally ran up the back of one of his own players and jumped at his shoulders and blocked the kick probably 15 feet in the air. Unfortunately there is a rule for that and he and the team were penalized and the other team got the points on the rekick. Once again Graeme. Thanks so much!!!

I've seen Ozzy 3 times as a solo act, and thought each one that he was beyond retirement The concerts are always amazing though. Never seen him play with Sabbath, so might be interesting.

i can't help but feel that the enlightened people like James and Krista make up the majority of the 'South'. Just unfortunately they also have the minority dumbasses who grab the national and international spotlight every now and then. After all, Mississippi legalized gay marriage before being told to by SCOTUS.
