Hmmm, I have an aunt that writes about a two page cursive letter and adds it into the Christmas card every year. She says it would be easier to just write one and photocopy it or type it and print multiple copies but she enjoys making it personal and taking the time to relax and write. The last letter I wrote was to a boyfriend that I was totally in love with and figured it was easier to write down my feelings for him instead of bumbling them up in speech. He read it, and I still have it Need I say more

Latest news out of Vancouver is that they are going to go to autopsy and toxicology. Usually this isn't done unless there is no apparent reason of death. The Vancouver Police Chief said there is no appearance of illicit drug use or foul play so at this point, it is a mystery as to why he died. The reason I bring this up is that although he was recently in rehab, it might not be a foregone conclusion that he died of an overdose. I too was saddened when I heard this

Not sure if anyone heard, but my home city of Calgary suffered historical flooding just 2 weeks ago. Several surrounding towns and hamlets were devastated as well . Something happened over the past two weeks that has given me a lot of hope, surprised me and just made me say wow. Although there was several beyond imaginable happenings over this time period, there is one that stood at the forefront in my mind. Every 1st and 2nd week of July Calgary plays host to the world with the Calgary Exhibition and Stampede. Some may call it a fair, an exhibition, a giant party. It bills itself as the Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth. About 1.2 million visitors plus a year attend the Stampede. Working out to over a 100,000 people a day to visit. The thing is the Stampede grounds are bordered by the Elbow river, one of the two rivers that flow through Calgary and burst their banks. Above the Stampede, the Elbow was flowing over top of the Glenmore Damn. Needless to say, amongst the 100,000 people evacuated from their homes, the Stampede Grounds were devastated. There was talk about cancelling the first Stampede in its 101 year history. Something that the great depression, two world wars and numerous other major events could have cancelled the annual party. Just a few days after the flooding, the Stampede announced that they would push ahead with this years Stampede. They would do this without the use of volunteers who would be needed in helping out the communities devastated by the floods. They would use their existing staff and contractors running around the clock. The last thing they wanted to do was take resources, mainly volunteers, away from the community. Friday morning arrived and 300,000 people attended the Stampede parade the winded its way through downtown Calgary which was also flooded two weeks ago. The grounds then opened and after the parade with only some minor changes due to closures. One of the hardest hit buildings was the Scotiabank Saddledome, our NHL hockey arena that was flooded up to the 13th row of seating and could not open. Four major concerts had to be cancelled. I spent the past two evenings volunteering down at the Stampede working for a local charity. It was pretty amazing to see the majority of the grounds open again to the visitors only two weeks after the flood. These images are from last year, but the general idea of the people who attend. Now for the second of the hope that I mentioned in the title. On 3 different occasions last night, I saw 3 different couples walking down the midway holding hands. All 3 would have been in the 20 to 30 range and very attractive in their jeans, shirts, cowboy hats and boots. One couple even I saw shared a kiss. The thing is all 3 of these couples were two men. Yes they got some looks from others and I'm sure some behind their backs comments of those gawkers, but they continued on without a worry of being in a predominantly butch tough environment. When I saw the first one, I thought of pulling out my phone and snapping a picture (probably due to how hot both guys were ) but dismissed it automatically thinking would I snap a picture of a random hetro couple holding hands? Probably not, so decided against it. I know that Texas has some pretty vibrant gay communities but when I attended the Texas State Fair in Dallas about 8 years ago with 3 other gay guys they had mentioned that there just was some places in Texas that you just don't announce you are gay. Hopefully someday, more and more this will be a common site across North America. Couples of both sexes being able to publicly show their affections to each others. If anything, it gave me hope and makes me smile

Wow, I'm amazed. With English as not your first language, to plow through 156 chapters in 3 days is pretty amazing I like your comments about how it feels reading a story of CJ's and agree, it is like he has personally experienced the events himself. I have learned how to do so much from his stories that it almost wants to make me go out and try to do them. From sailing, to making makeshift fuel tanks to even building a nuclear weapon (twice). As much as CJ is great on the technical details, I also appreciate his interaction between the characters as well. Take Trevorj's different relationships with the other characters. Joel and Lisa are like brother and sister. Dad was an adversary at the beginning and then they finally talked and probably will be best friends. His mom, when he found out she was alive, he was happy but angry. Wouldn't you be. Once he found out about Bridgett, his attitude greatly changed, who's wouldn't. All in all the characters are as important as the scenery and the technical knowledge. I think if it was all technical I would fall asleep like I did with so many textbooks in school Now the epilogue should be out soon all wrapped up. Then the suspense will be on for what is next

The newly elected Premier of Ontario and her wife will be marching in the parade as they have done for several years. Next year Toronto has been bestowed the honour of hosting the 2014 World Pride Parade. The main reason I bring this up is the stats that are in the article. When gay marriage was legalized, the majority of Canadians were against it. 10 years later and the majority are in favour of it. I always hoped that the US would find a similar path in gaining equal rights for their gay population. Wouldn't it be great in 10 years to have the same stats out of the US? Once the general US population realize that the world isn't falling in on them I hope this is achieved. I applaud SCOTUS for their recent decisions and hope this is the first step of a great journey for true equality be it marriage, employment, housing, and the full gamete of issues that the gay population has face discrimination for years.

Well that summed up Animal Morph's request quite quickly I read through those past blog entries again, and it is nice to relive the memories of seeing some of, but not all of the changes. It is also nice that there is a chronological map of where GA once was to compare to what it is today. Last thing I thought I would mention, one of the mid life screen shots but Myr showed that at the time of the screen shot, Naper Vic was signed in at the time. I miss him and hope that he is still looking in on all of us daily like he did for years

Just wading into the conversation now. As far as cloning extinct animals, wasn't there a few books about that, that were turned into movies? Jurassic Park anyone. I seem to remember in the books, chaos theory was explained better than in the movies. Assuming there is an actual theory, I can't help but think of how many times man has f up'd the world with good intentions regarding wildlife. I believe toads were introduced to Australia to control bug populations, now, they have a population problem with them. Pythons are now bounty listed animals in the Florida Everglades. They didn't just swim up there, they were released by humans. Just the idea that someone wants to bring back a species that is now is extinct, scares the hell out of me. Darwin's theory of Evolution that the strongest will survive needs to re taught I do believe. If they went extinct by man's hand, then they should be extinct forever. Not to be cloned from DNA. Since none of us were around when Sabre Tooth Tigers were around, how can we know how the will react or their temperament etc. Too scary to even consider IMHO.
