A lovely story in so many ways. We lost my father on December 4, 2017. Though he acted like the Grinch, he loved the holidays. I believe it stemmed from his own childhood and not really celebrating the holidays except when he was with his dad. But he always made sure his kids had a good Christmas, including providing the Peppermint Schnapps that my older siblings drank on Christmas Eve some year way before my birth. I think it is important to immerse yourself in the memories so that you can see how far you have come in your healing. So, in my father's honor and with all the love I can give, "Bah, Humbug!"

My first roommate had never had real mac and cheese until he had dinner with my family. He thought that any food made from scratch was for the upper class as he had only ever really had prepackaged food. Ended up teaching him how to cook various foods. He is currently attending a local college that offers culinary arts classes. That first bite of homemade goodness. 🙌

As a southerner who is beyond fond of food I have watched a lot of Food Network and Cooking Channel. And while I don't mind finding newer and more efficient ways of doing things, or healthier versions. I began feeling like we as a culture are losing our culinary heritage. I also began realizing that sometimes the process used could be therapeutic. I am in the process of collecting as many family recipes as I can to at least preserve my culinary heritage. Anyway, I am looking forward to reading these installments, maybe with some of the homemade hot cocoa mix, courtesy of an eccentric aunt. 😂

Umm, I'm totally down for this. I need some new ideas. Two Christmases ago my grandmother gave us all a handmade booklet of her favorite recipes. It has become a treasured part of my culinary library. So anything I can add, especially in story form is a bonus.

Self-doubt is naturally going to happen at times. Just know that it will pass and this story is good. Personally, it is characters that make a story good to me. You could create the most marvelously detailed world, but if the characters are lackluster, it bores me. You have done an excellent job here. Kudos.

I am intrigued with the family dynamics you have going. It is nice that there is no blatant hatred being shown (yet), from any of them. But then, for as heartless as I can be, I am still a sap for a good Christmas story. Keep up the good work.

Got me up in my non-existent feelings with this one @Fantasyboy69, an excellent end to what has been an enjoyable ride. I just shudder to think what Alice is going to put the family through once she hits the teen years. Should be entertaining.

I am loving this story, almost seems like it should be a mini-series on Hallmark or Netflix (I vote Hallmark, they need more diversity in their showings). Anywho, I have decided to keep my mouth shut about possibilities and just let them play out. Like others, I am suspicious of you, but in the best of ways. As far as not much happening, sometimes it is the little things that will stick out and can seem momentous in later chapters. Excellent work @Wayne Gray

Let me start by saying this was a wonderful chapter. But, no seriously, I've been giving quite a bit of thought to Wren's dad. With the various theories out there, I honestly think that instead of being gay or trans, Daddy was killed by the uncles in a bid to make sure they got the land when grandpa died. Beecher seems like a man that knew what his sons were like and would have bequeathed everything to Daddy. I just know there are a lot of places to bury someone in the country and no one would be any the wiser.

I think Wren should let Tracy go "Uncle Hunting." She seems like the type of lady that would enjoy that. 🤣 I also feel that Wren should have contacted the sheriff at least to document the incidents. That way they are on record and can see the eventual progression that the uncles' will deviate to. Keep up the excellent work sir.

I've always thought that if you want total honesty, ask a child. 🤣. I have been following this story since the beginning when Dylan was still "little" and you continue to impress me. Honestly, would love to see this come to the small screen as a mini-series. As for Angus, well I think I shall refrain from speaking what I think of him. Keep up the excellent work sir.

I'll be honest, I'm waiting for a donnybrook between Wren, Caleb, and Charles against the uncles. Nothing like some fisticuffs to get the blood pumping. Great chapter @Wayne Gray, am thoroughly enjoying this story.

Another excellent chapter, and Richard shall now be forever Dick, I refuse to share a name with that douchehole. One of the first romance novels I ever read had a quote that I've taken to heart in relationships. "Finish off the cookie, before nibbling on another." I feel that the way Dick handled this caused emotional retardation in Drake, who did not seem mature enough to handle issues like that anyway. Will continue to look forward to new chapters. -
