  1. I followed the link... that's pretty neat. It's reminiscent of a lot of built-over CA--I mean, the creeks by me are fenced and bricked and inaccessible, etc., but occasionally a mountain lion will follow one down from the hills and pop out a mile from the highway. As people were saying in the comments, yes, it's pretty hideous, but there are probably still newts in the water and native plants on the banks. I'm not sure I think it's worth the money, but I do find the idea intriguing. Edit: and yes, it totally looks like an upscale shantytown, but so do most big campgrounds here.
  2. Love it!
  3. Welcome, Hanna!
  4. Aww, no cage fight between Ian and Michael! I had put my money on Ian and everything... Poor Asher... waking up from a faint to find his partner not there... I'm incredibly curious now to find out what happens to Ziggy.
  5. Oh, how I love a nice, "It's always been you"! Was he making him jealous on purpose though?
  6. Yes. Well. My first potentially useful contribution to the topic: Mark, 2000 is a bit early, but Burning Man started to be an increasingly big deal here in the subsequent years. More of a Matt and Wade thing though--I think the youngest attendees at that time were in their mid-20s.
  7. Shrug. Can't really respond without breaking forum rules, but I can say that "modern" is a bit of a stretch given that I first became aware of issues around impairment and consent when I was first in college, over 20 years ago now, and the issue far from being a new one then.

    Four Teens

I can't believe Kevin hurt Brent's feelings like that! And yet it's so authentically 8th grade... Sigh.

    Tell Me . . .

    MORE. Time's a-wasting!
  10. I apologize for being intrusive, but are you getting medical treatment?
  11. Just found this topic. Seems reasonable. I certainly can't think of a better rationale for associating with Douglas Edit: not buying the original proposition though, awesome though it would be. O.W. comes across as so fastidious to me somehow. And a bit snobbish. Boinking some American guy... I don't know.
  12. Oneof my quieter friends volunteered at a Pride event when he moved here... Just a thought, since it's coming up...

    Epilogue

Awww, I love it! the man with the cat on his shoulder is back! And I appreciate your grittily realistic treatment of the flower girl's behavior...
  14. OMG. OMG. OMG. Stop this rollercoaster I wanna get off If Michael and Ian are going to fight I wanna see it in the story next week. No doing it off-camera, ok?
  15. Solo vacations are not all that enjoyable, in my experience, unless I'm looking forward to being alone. W-L do you have online friends you can connect with in person? Or local friends from work or volunteer stuff? It can take some skill to build a network after college, but the people I know have gotten really good at it over time.
  16. Awww. You need to come to Northern California next time!
  17. Wow. You've gotten to go to some really exciting weddings! I hope this important one is nothing but peaceful and lovely.
  18. Last one, low priority: does Oliver ever get a nice boyfriend? Please say yes!
  19. Ooo, I have this question too, from Weak: I can't figure out what they are!
  20. Why do you set the stories in Britain instead of Norway?
  21. I'm reminded of a conversation with my cousin, when he said that a Muslim mass murderer is guaranteed to be described as "radicalized" but a similar killer of a different religion or ethnicity will be said to have "just snapped." I don't know what the answer is either. My own, purely anecdotal, info is that in my 25 years in this country, I've experienced bias a bunch of times and I've never had it turn into this kind of violence. So they feel like two different things to me. But that could just mean that I'm compartmentalizing things to make myself feel better.
  22. I think part of it may be that in the teens and twenties and thirties the externally imposed milestones are frequent... Graduations, jobs, housing, serious partners... In my 40s I feel like I can pretty much please myself, so although I'm graying alarmingly fast I don't have the feeling of keeping up or falling behind my age cohort.
  23. Not to minimize what took place in Santa Barbara, but I can't think of it as a natural outgrowth of institutionalized campus misogyny, despite the whole Twitter thing. This guy was *crazy*, enough that concerns had been raised previously by his family. In my opinion, it's not qualitatively the same thing as a group custom of getting women drunk and raping them (or a group decision to lie to cover such events). It reminds me of the McGill killings my freshman year in college, though again, I'd be hard-pressed to find a direct link between the shootings and the daily microagressions experienced at that time by women in science and engineering classes.
  24. I'll probably be driving during the chat tomorrow so will leave my question here now. I'm afraid it's pure soppy fangirl: Who proposed, Jacob or Marcus? And how???
  25. Andy + Kevin!! It would be so good for their moms!
