  1. This got beyond my ear very quickly, but I did love it: http://www.bl.uk/learning/langlit/sounds/regional-voices/phonological-variation/ In the US, we find working-class UK accents sexy! I would swoon for anyone who said " 'appen" to me. Edit: though that's probably got something to do with Lady Chatterley's Lover.

    Sex and Laundry

I was so happy for Corbin and the cadet for the first 80% of this chapter! And then it's right back to cheap shots at his opponents and using Mike as a tool... sigh I felt so sorry for Mike, hiding in a suite bathroom to talk to someone who's only calling to jerk someone else around. Corbin's crack at Amanda actually didn't seem so bad to me... let's face it, it's not a bad prediction.
  3. Pretentious like this?
  4. I like the Bridget Jones "v. good." (I think the essence of Stephen Fry's humor lies in the second "extrinsically.")
  5. I'm really sorry. That sounds awful.
  6. Morose is very commonly used, but it doesn't mean 'very sad." A few of the "rather use" word above are just synonyms of the originals, maybe a more Latinate version, like "sagacious," which I never use because I think it sounds weakly pompous... maybe because Dickens often used it ironically and I can't hear it in any other voice now. If someone uses that to me I'll punch them in the throat. In other cases, there's an meaning that goes beyond "very"-whatever, as in "exquisite." It would be nice to hear a lot of the the others (parched, immaculate, gaunt, destitute) in conversation more often. They're very useful in writing. Except "villainous."
  7. Can you work out a financial deal with your parents so that you pay your rent ,with the understanding that they give you some autonomy and treat you like an adult?
  8. Have a good time, and I hope you're back to 100% soon.
  9. Wait, this is starting to sound like the voice of experience... Have you already done a man who used "villainous" in conversation? How was it???
  10. Ok. May get laid by NS. Once. I'm trying to imagine an attractive guy saying "villainous" about something in all seriousness and my brain's just shorting out repeatedly. You are younger and more adaptable, maybe it can be done.
  11. Anyone who uses "villainous" without irony, in conversation, is not getting laid ever, regardless of the target audience

    Facing Facts

I'm sorry, Wayne. Some years are just lousy--bad things happen, health suffers, friends are unavailable, work is dull. It cycles though. In my experience, things do eventually get better, given time and maybe some investment in doing things for myself that I've been avoiding--seeing the doctor, finishing the paperwork, going outside and getting some fresh air, reaching out to an acquaintance to get together... I hope this year brings you happiness as well as sadness.
  13. I love Ciao, but I'm guessing you've seen it already.
  14. Now, if they KEEP doing it you know they were trolling you...
  15. Gives me hope.
  16. Happy birthday Valkyrie!
  17. Ok, I admit it, I got a tiny bit misty when Asher turned away from Michael's door... yay for lovers reunited!

    Memory of a Kiss

Wow, that message of Pete's was unspeakably spiteful, by any standard. I'd say Corbin is fully justified in giving up on Pete, if it weren't for the fact that he's going to use Mike as a pawn in this fight.
  19. Do dead celebrities count? If so, Cisco Houston.

    Silence

I'm very sorry for your loss. I think it's normal to go a while without crying. People don't always process it fully right away.
  21. I did a test of Juicy Fruit. 13 min.
  22. I'll add a caveat: unless you have some kind of medical condition.
  23. When you're in my presence.
  24. Well. I wasn't expecting that at all! Poor Stu!

    Changes

Whoa. I don't know what to say. That's... pretty intense... I hope the move works out really well for you!
