September Signature Feature: In the Shadow of the Dragon by JamesSavik
ReaderPaul commented on Cia's blog entry in Gay Authors News
This is a really good story. I have read it several times and each time see something I had previously missed or not completely understood. @JamesSavik seems always to be able to put "layers of meaning" into his stories, though the story be long, medium, or almost flash [1000 words or less] or drabble [exactly 100 words] short. -
Several good stories on that list. One of the funniest is the first listed as -- Top 10 Most read -- Surreal Comedy. "Why is your underwear in the swimming pool" is hilarious! I would really appreciate it if @wildone would write a sequel.

@chris191070 and @Backwoods Boy -- AwesomeDude (Mike) has been in poor health and "Alien Son" ran the site for several months. Mike is back at the helm now, but still healing somewhat. Pee Jay has stories on CodeysWorld dot com and on Tickiestories.

I am not sure either. I still have not heard from the webmaster at TickieStories, "Pee Jay."

This is a twist I had not imagined, but it is not really surprising in today's world where everyone with a smartphone thinks they are a reporter. Everyone thinks they know the whole truth, but usually only know a part of the truth -- and often not the more significant parts of the truth. @R. Eric -- this opens up fantastic opportunities for the story.

Excellent points, @Geron Kees. I frequent a website owned by a citizen of the UK but hosted in the US. The owner of the site has stated that he has a succession plan in place. At least two persons have access to the backend of the site, and, I assume, the financials, since the other person ran it for a time when the owner had major health issues. Because of hosting permissions, author permissions, legal issues, and who knows what else, assuming another site's stories and other duties could be fraught with legal and financial peril, not to mention the proverbial red tape.

Wow, @Myr, this is a fascinating feature. How often will this feature appear, or has that yet been decided? It also gives me some more stories to pursue.

Someone could have access to the website's back end, and not have access to the financials to keep the site up and running. If only one person has control of the financials to pay for the web access, the site could still go down. I see this as a potential downfall for many sites, eventually. Thankfully, sites like GA have backup plans in place. However, I am guessing many smaller sites do not have such.

I have emailed "Pee Jay", the TickieStories webmaster, to see if the late Chuck had a succession plan. If I find out anything, I will post what I can here. @Mancunian -- @chris191070 -- @Backwoods Boy -- @Bill W -- @Geron Kees -- @Ajbt2001 -- @raven1 -- @Zombie -- @Dhpiet77

Try looking at archiveofourown dot org and enter boywives into their search bar. Archive of Our Own can also be reached at Ao3 dot org. Those stories would, I am almost certain, never be allowed on GA because of intergenerational relations in them. I can tell I will not be reading those particular stories; I have many favorite authors already that write other stories.
-
@Bill W, you are correct on this. Not only do more sites mean more possibilities for a story remaining on the web, but more sites mean more potential readers. I only know of three sites which I KNOW have succession plans -- two of which are GA and Storylover dot us. Probably there are more -- but I do not know for sure.

When I first read these chapters on GA, I read at one point Seeri called Wanda "Aunt" instead of grandmother. Now I don't see it. And since the other website where this has been posted so far is way behind GA in posting, and THERE Wanda is called Seeri's "twice-great aunt", it was not there where I read it. However, that is such a minor point I don't worry about it. In some future sequel to this story, might there be a chance of Seeri being mentioned again?

@lawfulneutralmage, common acronyms you might see include not only BIL, but SIL = Sister-in-law; MIL = Mother-in=law; FIL = Father-in-law. DRE = Digital Rectal Exam PSA has two common meanings -- PSA = Prostate-Specific Antigen (a blood test which can indicate prostate cancer) PSA can also mean Public Service Announcement IMO = In My Opinion IMHO = In My Humble Opinion IRL = In Real Life DNF = Did Not Finish (applies to reading a story, or to racing cars) DNF can also = Do Not Forward or Do Not Fax or Domain Name Finder
-
@Ivor Slipper -- any prediction as to when you will continue this fascinating story? Thanks, from Paul.
-
That was -- different.

@Bill W-- same two people, same pose. If you look closely at the pic originally posted in the thread, it looks like a magazine photo has been put over part of the original cover. Look at the edges of the meat part of the photo which seems out of place. In the cover of the book shown on Amazon, the couple is looking at some kind of photo album or "coffee table" book. (When I worked in a bookstore, we called large format books designed to be looked at "coffee table" books.)
-
Looking up that 1982 book on Amazon, either the cover has changed or the picture above has been doctored.

September's CSR Feature: The Matchmaker by Arch Hunter
ReaderPaul commented on Cia's blog entry in Gay Authors News
Sounds like an interesting story. -
I would love to see another Deep Space story. Or, a spin-off from Deep Space of what happened to the boy, Oscar, when it was discovered that he was telepathic by Maenyl Lenegan. I hope he kept that quiet, and perhaps went to work with representatives of the URP who also are telepathic. It could be a good career move for Oscar.
-
@Anton_Cloche, thank you for the concise analysis of the story. Good summary. @quokka, I quite enjoy your stories. Is there a chance more Deep Space stories are coming soon? Perhaps by the end of 2023?
-
Wow, somewhat of a surprise ending. Good chapter.
-
Wonderful chapter, @R. Eric. Cancer can be terrible. My brother-in-law is undergoing cancer treatment now, with chemo and radiation. What he has is too large a mass to operate on. Looking forward to future chapters on all your open stories.
-
Wow, Struan must have a LOT of money to be able to do all of that! Sounds like more adventures might be possible in the future.
-
Exciting and good chapter, @quokka. It would be such a shame (cough, cough) if the two villains did not survive being shot....
