  1. And the mystery grows.... Think the "mermen" have some extra tricks up their sleves, so perhaps the guard who was captured was also able to fire off some kind of warning to the rest of the "pod". That's above and beyond their morph capabilities; perhaps telepathy? Teleportation? Regardless, looking forward to the next chapter!
  2. Well, it IS a little calmer, but Barry's depression is worring--think your prescription may be just what the doctor ordered for Barry!Dave's voice needed to be heard; up until now he's been the strong, seemingly silent type. And don't use that "I'm not a two-stepper" line of bullshit here; just admit you wanted a couple of shots of tequila and have a makeout session with a hot cowboy! Own it and move forward, stud! And understand we're all jealous! BTW, enjoying your "Tidal Power". I've got a Nyquil hangover this morning, but as soon as I can read the next chapter, I'll comment. Good job so far. Thanks for the comments, buddy!
  3. My Bureau iPhone on the hospital nightstand gave it's annoying “three chirps and stop”, “three chirps and stop” ring. I grab it, don't recognize the number, but since it's the Bureau phone, go ahead and answer---if they're calling on this number, it's important. “Hello.” “Hi, Dave. It's Barry. Did I catch ya at a bad time? I know it's late but....” Damn nice to hear his voice. Lowering my voice since it's after ten pm as I swing my feet off the side of the bed, “Not at all, Barry....great to

    Epilogue

Sigh.....I'm a sucker for happy endings, and this one hit all the right notes! You've sung an amazing song with this story--thank you for a great job!
  5. DomXian, Glad you're here! You've already seen the great stash of reading here, and already gotten a feel for the quality of folks here. In fact (and this is directed to you, too, Lost in Thought) you both came here for the reading. You've already got the reading skills to appreciate/enjoy the stories. Please DO get to know the folks in chat, and definately make a point to leave "likes" and reviews on the stories you read! Your voice here is important--you'll bring insights others might miss! Dive in and have fun, and again, welcome to you both!
  6. Aw....thanks!Keep reading....and be prepared to quiz me about it next Monday in the CSR blog from 7-9pm (central) Glad you're sticking with the story! THANK YOU!
  7. Aw, thanks! But just to be clear, Landfall is my 2nd story. My first story is "Joe the Welder", and I'm honored to be featured in this months CSR blog review next Monday! The blog will be up all day, and I'll be live to answer questions about that story--or any other questions--from 7-9 pm. Please do drop in on that discussion; and you'll have plenty of time to read "Joe" before then!In the meantime, I'm working on a new chapter to Landfall that'll be out tomorrow. THANK YOU for the kind words!

    Chapter 16

I came prepared for this--wasn't able to read the chapter until now, knew what was coming, and had fresh scotch poured and read. Despite the scotch, you still made me cry. The portrait of the scene's tension from Matt's point of view added an extra dimension to its horror, and the sadness of having Avery recount the years of abuse breaks my heart. Thankfully, Avery has gotten some closure regarding his mom--and I won't be surprised to find that his dad was demanding a "ransom" for Avery's release to his mom. An emotionally demanding chapter--yeah, I'm still sniffling--but finally, happier days are on the horizon! You're too damn good at wrestling these emotions from us all!

    Chapter 15

FINALLY! The calvary DID arrive! Looking forward to how this plays out. You've done a masterful job in writing this, conveying the tension, the anguish, the horror of the scene. Great job....now, setting my alarm to get up tomorrow morning early for the next chapter!

    Chapter 14

DAMN! Such a cliff-hanger! I'm like m.p......hoping Matt and tha calvary is there! Dad needs to get nailed. Looking forward to the next chapter! You're doing a GREAT job writing this, and it's only gotten better!

    Wildest Dreams

AC is right--the chapter's end is moving, dramatic, and hits all the right notes. And, talk about changes ahead...he's moving on his own! Looking forward to the next chapter!
  16. Yipee! Nicely done--and a real feel good chapter, too.....you did well!
  17. Glad you're enjoying the story! The emotions are always strong...two mature men can be intense, and unfraid of thier feelings, and be comfortable letting others see 'em! Keep reading...hope you'll continue to enjoy!
  18. Drave, you're gonna enjoy being here--plenty of good reads, friendly folks, interesting forums! Dive in and have fun!
  19. Thank you for the kind words! As I've mentioned, this was a tough chapter to write--to both pick up the emotions on the loss of the boys, as well as the detailed work to fully explain/resolve this part of The Plan. (Yeah, there are multiple parts to the plan.) Appreciate the comments--and stay tuned!

    Chapter 13

Damn.....scary that Avery has been so abused that lying all sorts of believable lies as quickly as he can think has become second nature to him. He's had to delude himself that long, it's scary. Even more scary is the one line of (paraphrased) "I got no sleep last night because dad "missed" me while I was gone". Dad's abuse has gone on so long it barely registers anymore! Really looking forward to how this works out--and how quickly it works out. (BTW, EMS tracking on phone calls/Avery's explanations came across as very plausable....good job!)
  21. Hey, I warned all along there were plot twists and turns! And you're right, the boys are the true victims here. Dave has been supported so far, and his last enounter with the boys would seem to show he'll help Barry deal with that loss.In terms of the plea deal, considering that they were dealing with multiple counts of murder, conspiracy, tax evasion, (probably) racketeering, etc., the Justice department should have been able to force them to accept life. Plus, Texas is a death penalty state, so that may have been used as leverage, too. Thanks for the kind wirds and comments. There's more to come.
  22. Thanks Gary---and like you, Barry's commitment to his boys has been consistent and strong. Is he paying a price for his past? You bet! But he's accepting of his fate and the "scale-balancing" he's been required to do.This was a tough chapter to write--not just because of the emotional factors, but the sheer number of details required to explain events of the day. Glad the primary feeling was the emotion and not just the plot "housekeeping". Glad you're here for the Ride, buddy! Thanks for the comments!
  23. Yeah, it was a tough chapter, but seeing the strength of the basic relationship between Michael and Kendall is remarkably uplifting. Yeah, it's been a rollercoaster, but the best instincts of both men seem to be coming through! Looking forward to the next chapter.

    Chapter 12

Saw the chapter added this morning as I was pouring my 2nd cup of coffee. Immediately switched to a screwdriver--knew I'd need it to get through this chapter. Avery continues to amaze with his strength and endurance. Emotionally, all he can do is block it out/shut down the input. And yet, for just a kid, he's handing this insanity far better than many adults. (I'm thinking especially of prisoners of war and their environ.) But the damage he's incurring emotional is staggering. There's a special spot in hell for William and Avery's dad..... Promise me there's better days ahead. Promise me I'm not gonna hafta enroll in a 12-step program to make it through the end of the story. Engrossing, solid writing!
  25. Lit, as I mentioned in my comments to Daddy (below), despite everything he's been/done, Barry has been a solid Dad--and there's no minimizing the loss he or his boys are having to deal with here. And, as I mentioned to Carlos, Dave is going to be around for a while. Since he'd be under surveillance for quite some time, Barry's reputation as a "married man-whole" is part and parcel of who he is/was. Although you hafta wonder--with lots of macho guys, that title is sometimes viewed as a badge of honor! Thanks for the comments. There's more ahead....
