  1. I was surprised (and somewhat relieved) to learn that this thread had nothing to do with rocket propelled grenades.
  2. According to a New York Times criticism, "Blowing the Smooth Out of the Summer", Miley Cyrus was the producers' answer for what to do about Robin Thicke. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=f4BK9cglvQ4

  4. You are absolutely correct. We can't do good without doing harm.
  5. Yeah, the tanker is flying so low, it gets the automatic "landing gear" warning.

  10. Bob, I'm sorry to hear our old friend is making another unwelcome visit. PCa is like that. It is either cured very early or it hangs on for years. It just won't stay away in many cases. Please know that I am praying for you and your wife and expect many more years of friendship.
  11. Happy Birthday, JoAnn!

This is David Hilder. He is one Brit who is not an animal lover. See: Daily News article U.K. cat DNA database helps convict murderer
  14. On the Autostrada in Italy, there may be two lanes clearly marked in each direction, but the natives often drive three or four abreast.
  15. The piazza in Naples either has no traffic signals or everyone runs the red lights.
  16. I've never been there and certainly wouldn't want to drive there...
  17. I like the map "Every Country England Has Ever Invaded (all but 22 countries in the world)". It explains a lot about many of the other maps except, notably, "Worldwide Driving Orientation".
  18. Probably not. Three years from now, still better technology will be about three years away.
  19. Thanks to all for the birthday wishes. It was a great day spent with family.
  20. Baseball, specifically the Boston Red Sox.
  21. Happy Birthday, James! Stay cool!
  22. The Pennsylvania Turnpike for all the above reasons. My first experience with it was on our honeymoon and I have avoided it since with few exceptions. But what a view!

    For Gareth with love

Back in the winter, our 19-year old yellow cat, who was blind and deaf, got out of the house without our knowing. We found him dead two days later and just two doors away where he had been hit by a car. It was obviously a quick death considering that his head was crushed. That's a blessing for him...no suffering. It's a small world. We recently got a long-haired calico cat, whom my wife named Gypsy Rose because of her long, fluffy tail which looked like a fan dancer's costume. The kitty is popular with the grandchildren, but she keeps her distance from them. For their sake we shortened her name to Gypsy. When one of the two-year olds had trouble with that, her name became Gypy (Gyppy).
  24. Sounds strange to me. Makes the fractured landscape of legislation in the US seem less peculiar. Why permit same sex marriage and prohibit the largest churches from conducting the weddings? Any federal legislation in the US which forbade a few denominations the right to do something would start an uproar.
  25. I didn't understand... The Church of England and Church in Wales are banned from doing what? It sounds like those two churches are banned from offering same sex weddings while all other denominations are required to opt in to offering weddings. Is there an error in wording in the BBC article?
