    Shapshot July

Congratulations on your improving health. Enjoy your travel. Can you use a few days of your annual leave at the end of each of these foreign trips? It would be a great way to see new places.
  2. Justice is blind. Many of the cases of the sort you mention are never brought to trial. It's not because Justice is blind and doesn't see all the injustice. It's because the current Attorney General of the US is a political animal and very selective in the cases the Department of Justice will pursue. Enough said.

Still others do nothing, which isn't always a bad thing.
  4. The FDA will probably look at this effort as if it were a poll...unscientific.
  5. Happy Birthday, Joe!
  6. I hesitate to say it. The comparison with current tuition doesn't mean much. When I enrolled as a college freshman in 1959, tuition was $62.50 per semester. I don't think student loans existed then. I doubt anyone would lend that little.

  8. I have returned the epilogue to C J with my comments. I think everyone will be pleased with the final installment.

    Let's be fair.....

It was some years ago that I was barred from donating blood at the Red Cross because I was being actively treated for cancer. Prior to that, I had donated over three gallons of whole blood and had donated platelets several times. I was under the impression that the local Red Cross blood bank tested all donors for HIV among other diseases while I was still donating. I certainly had to sign a consent form permitting that and permitting them to notify me of any adverse results of the testing. Anyone else have a similar experience?
  10. Happy Birthday, Slytherin! From all your friends, everywhere.
  11. I hated the day I gave up my old Marantz amplifier/tuner. It was a great piece of equipment. But, alas, it was obsolete. It didn't have a single digital bone in it's body...not a single digital input. The new set top boxes (cable/satellite) and Blu-Ray DVD players all had optical digital outputs that needed a corresponding input for sound. So, I now have a Onkyo TX-SR501 AV Receiver. It's not nearly the machine the Marantz was and didn't cost nearly as much, but it's a great piece of equipment. They are hard to find now...have been replaced by newer, probably better, models, but they are great! Used ones are about $50 at Amazon.

    Countdown: 4 days!

    Safe travel.

  14. Don't know. By my count, chapter 156 is 20,390 words. Circumnavigation comes in at 1,126,091 words excluding the epilogue, exactly double War and Peace (Tolstoy) and almost as long as Remembrance of Things Past (Proust).

    On that subject .......

I tried to tell my male friends to be sure that they had their PSA checked annually. I got strange reactions. They don't want to have cancer and they apparently don't won't some doctor telling them they do. I love parties! Count me in. I just need to figure out how to use Skype.

Welcome to the club, Kitt, of those who are counting the days and the years of survival. I hope that I will be around to cheer you on when you have passed the five year milestone in the clear. You are very generous in offering your support to others and I will do the same for those who have (or whose man has) prostate cancer.
  17. The solution to Shane's visa problem: Travel from Key West to Mexico and enter the US through Texas. Problem solved.
  18. I agree. I don't know how that idea started in the discussions. I think the cartel and the Australian underworld had their own people capable of spying out what's happening anywhere in the country. Treachery by a named character isn't necessary. Just because Grundig is not a major character doesn't make him suspect.

    Story

Well done, Renee. Being diabetic, I had the diagnosis immediately. I've never crashed so hard that I had to go to the hospital, but I think you provided a very realistic picture of what would happen. Good characters made it all the more interesting.
