  1. Those days yet linger under the hot July sun. Gone so quickly, yet appearing endless as we got off that bus, once. I’m glad this struck a chord with you.
  2. It was such fun to watch this bus on its last run of this school year. I’m glad your memories of those days bring you smiles. Thanks so much for reading this one.
  3. Thank you very much, Mac. Summertime, that endless carpet of green warm days, is such a wonderful time. And I’m glad I’m not the only one who recalls that phrase for a school bus.
  4. You made me grin at your recognition of the dry New England humor. You’re so right. We’re not nearly as regular and habitual as we might think. I wonder what stories about people wolves tell their cubs. I’m convinced that there are memory spirits all around the old place. I’m sure the hemlock wants to keep track of what the neighbors are up to as much as my grandmother ever did. Your comments are thoughtful, generous and kind. I’m very, very grateful.
  5. Congratulations, XQ! You have gone far beyond a lark. Now it’s a journey!
  6. These are two great woodland friends. Videos leave for the south early, but Carolina Wrens stay as long as there is food. Thanks for reading these, and for your comments.
  7. I watched the yellow bus quiver and shake, its red lights flashing one last time in the bright June sun; through popped-out doors they tumbled out, a few more prisoners set free, backpacks bouncing like sunlight through glass, running to join friends already on their long parole, anticipating adventure. And as that cheesewagon offed brakes with a groan and pulled away, still one young freed inmate remained, shoes off, in an
  8. Vireos The vireo, or preacher-bird, is far less often seen than heard; he sings quite near the topmost limb, repeating phrases word for word. Perhaps you’ll get a glimpse of him, all dressed in green and somewhat slim, prepared to sermonize all day and chant the evening vesper hymn. The feathered cleric oft will pray for caterpillars to fillet; his homilies cease not for lunch, siesta time or holid

    Moment

I’m glad you posted this, even though it’s so very sad. We need to remember.

    Moment

Your song lyric makes me weep and despair, all over again. I remember the tragedy far too well. What makes some people so afraid that hatred and violence seems the only way to respond?
  11. For me, self care means making time to read and to write and exercise. It means telling the menagerie of beasts that roar and growl within to be quiet for a while. Thanks for initiating this conversation.
  12. There are dozens upon dozens of fluffy romances out there. This isn’t one of them. Wayne Gray shows great skill in weaving the stories of different men together, giving the reader a beautiful, challenging emotional tapestry to experience. Though you may want to, you ought not devour this tale. It needs time to savor, and is worth every moment you spend with it.
  13. A sweet, beautiful finale to an awesome story. Markus completes the circle, and in so doing, grows it. It is a marvelous place you have brought us in these pages. Thank you.
  14. I wish I didn’t know what you meant in this poem, but I do, far too well. I’m glad you could enter on the journey to yourself.
  15. You speak with enormous wisdom, molly. I find self-care to be very difficult, too.

    Connections

You gave us glimpses of a brighter, happier world; one that Tad helped create. It’s wonderful. Thank you.
  17. You’re very kind to comment on my small effort to write about this very difficult subject. I know many people disagree with me, but I fear something is far wrong with what is happening.
  18. Thank you, Def, for reading these, and for your comments. Those moments of listening to the wind - and hearing nothing else - are pure gold in a busy world.

    Chapter 16

I’m impressed that this story have a saccharine finish, but came to a natural rest. I enjoyed reading this.

    Last Wishes

The title for this chapter is perfect. Tad’s wishes for his lovers, his friends, and for the world are realized. Stanley and Kent’s collaring was beautifully told; yet it Markus’ waking to a new world that made me smile most. Exactly as Tad wanted.
  21. Thanks, Gary, for reading these and for your response. What’s left of the old house still evokes a thousand memories. I’m glad you could maybe hear them.
  22. I agree with @Mikiesboy; I do not believe this to be bad poetry. Its lines are important, significant. I can only offer you hugs and hope for what hurts.
  23. The bear will have to wait his turn. The wolf continues to stay in my mind; I could see his facial expression. I’m glad that encounter resonated with you. Thanks for reading these, and for your thoughts.
  24. Why am I not surprised about the wolf being your favorite? Thanks for reading these, and for responding.
  25. I’m glad each of these made you smile in turn. My Grandmother’s house always has a special place for me in memory. Thank you for taking time with these.
