You paint a picture so fully and vividly, I can see it before my eyes. It lingers in my mind. And you make clear that the power relationship you describe is twofold. It is finely balanced, yet each must be for the other exactly what the other needs, exactly as their spirits demand. Beautifully done.
Oh, hot....oh, damn. It's all over, isn't it? The technicolor faded, and we have to go back to monochrome Kansas, is that it? Well, I suppose there will be lessons learned and heartache and drudge, and Scott will get to smile wistfully at his few hours of freedom and what might have been. Very artfully done.
I am enjoying Jake's self reflection very much. I admire his resolve and restraint. And he is very perceptive and observant around Nats. She almost appears dangerous, as if Jake is seeing her in a shifting light. But then, she isn't...no, Jake shows in the end he is still his own greatest danger.
I very much like your take on Companion. You are quite right, I think. Endure the difficulty of opening the way, and it is much easier to walk the path with another. And Alternate Reality is full of autumnal kinds of sadness. These seemed to fit the season.
And now you have me wondering where this is going. But I am very interested, nonetheless. Very, very surprised Joey and his friends can find places to light up on campus, but perhaps that's just the way the place laid out, or staffed.
You say such nice things. Thank you. @dughlas did indeed have it perfectly right. And your image of helically twisted DNA strands is really quite marvelous. These two really do seem to rotate about one another like that. I am both glad and sorry that you relate to these; I have felt both acutely. Thank you for your interesting thoughts and lively images. And for your hugs.
Thank you for reading these and for your interesting and acute comments. Time and age seem to be both an advantage and a burden, it seems - oh, to be as wise when I was so much younger. Not that I can really claim much in the way of wisdom. Again, my thanks.
Alternate Reality
I called aloud for cloudless, open skies,
for dainties rare and morsels of the best;
for youthful wines with flavor effervesced,
and flowered fields awash with butterflies.
I wished to run in happy exercise,
we'd be together, tangled in our rest,
beneath the vault of endless heaven blest,
for this and more I'd often fantasize.
I yearned for fevered kisses in the sun,
but heard derisive laughter with the rain;
the vintage wine to vinegar did r
Caleb will die, and Ethan, too, it seems. Orpheus makes that appear to be the case, anyhow. Death is patient, says Orpheus, but is also perfectly content to see things hustled along. This is so sad...
Oh, I like your detailed images. And I hope you have enjoyed these experiments and trials in taste and flavor. Now how do I set about cleaning up all these little bowls?
You make an excellent point. I now imagine someone cheerfully experimenting with new combinations and textures, and learning from every new notion. Thank you for your thoughts.
I have read this so very long after it was posted that I doubt you will ever read this comment. Nevertheless, on the off chance you might do so, please know that I enjoyed this story very much. I found it sweet, lively and engaging - Michael is too clever for his own good, and Adam both strong and forgiving. Thank you for sharing it.

You make me feel the day, sense the sand and too-calm sea; the unplanned aimless milling about, and the sight of taut wetsuited men lingers in my brain. You have brought all of this to life.
You have painted this really dark, with heavy brushstrokes. Maybe there will be light for Joey someday, but with his luck, it will be an oncoming train. I feel so badly for him, but I know there are so many real Joeys out there, too.
