I suspect that if Emily ever gets inside of Eric’s defenses, she’ll find herself with a good friend. He’s not one to forget those who treat him with dignity and respect. I imagine he could give just as good advice as Andy; but leave it to his natural self-effacement to volunteer his young man. Great chapter!

Examination; deep, thorough self-reflection, seems increasingly alien to the internet age. We are to allow ourselves to be subsumed into the ever-quickening cycles of gossip and outrage, with all our self definition conveniently pre-chosen for us. Thank you for posting this thought provoking poem.

@weinerdog Yes, Eric/Stefan eventually did that.

No, Eric/Stefan wasn’t about to try that fence. Fireflies are one of the wonders of this world. Eric/Stefan is getting a chance to see some things his father never let him know about. Playing a bit of baseball, for example. And for once, he’s not ravenously hungry. Thanks so much for reading and for taking time to comment.

Truth and Reconciliation
Parker Owens commented on Mikiesboy's story chapter in Truth and Reconciliation
This made me think of cycles, of interlocking circles of life. I only hope that each revolution is not identical to the last. -
Eric now gets supporting mail, as well as hate mail. I can’t understand why the impetus to injure another person is so strong: surely one man’s feel-good story does no harm to the rest of the population? And yet, it seems that some think that way. Brian and Sandra and Andy and Adam are sheet anchors in the howling gale of temporary fame.

Two Ballades: Bastion and Complemented
Parker Owens commented on Parker Owens's story chapter in Two Ballades: Bastion and Complemented
Your own couplet made me smile. I’m very glad you found at least one of these to be appealing. I agree one is relatively darker than the other. Thank you for reading your way through Detours. I’m most grateful. -

You’re very kind to have read and reacted to each one. I’m very happy you enjoyed them. -

No fear. The muse hasn’t managed to shake me off that easily. -
Two Ballades: Bastion and Complemented
Parker Owens commented on Parker Owens's story chapter in Two Ballades: Bastion and Complemented
You have been very kind to join me for 100 entries in this book. Bastion does indeed strike a melancholy tone. It’s hard to acknowledge one’s own deeply flawed humanity. I hoped Complemented might atone for the minor key in the first one. Thank you very much for your thoughts. -
Two Ballades: Bastion and Complemented
Parker Owens posted new chapter in Disasters, Delights and Other Detours
Bastion One guards an anxious soul for safety’s sake with fences far too fierce to be dismissed, and some through every season seem to make excuses when another might insist they lie upon his wheel like so much grist and only in the dawn’s light to bemoan the treasure stolen from the wrong lips kissed; as watchful hearts are often overthrown. For what prize can a random stranger take that would not mak -
That was an awesome feel-good chapter. Matt can move forward with the others he has helped, maybe.

Liam/Leo has good reason to seek as much anonymity as possible. It’s easy to say that he should seek out some sort of counseling or a support group, but that would hardly do for a person like Liam. I’m wondering what possible exit he might have from this grey, desperate kind of existence he’s leading. I fear what that exit might be.

@BlueWindBoy Stefan has stumbled into a place of vast riches: leftovers and castoff clothes. He’s equipped for a journey outside of the cage his father kept him in. But where that might take him is anyone’s guess.

Chapter 8 Stuck in the Same Corral
Parker Owens commented on Headstall's story chapter in Chapter 8 Stuck in the Same Corral
Mitch taking off to go hunting was a real gift for Boone and Coy. They could clear their own air without restraint, both under the shade of their tree and in their bed. They could speak with Will with less to go unsaid. Still, it’s up to Will to hunt Mitch down and get matters better squared up than they are now. These are scenes I’m looking forward to.- 82 comments

In number 1, I hear the sea, scent the tide and sense the passage of time. I liked how you appealed to my senses so easily. In number 2, I felt the touch of your hand; my heart eased. In number 3, I remain joined in spirit with you even across a wide distance. You write with such grace as I can only envy.

Eric is back! And as wry and self-conscious as ever, it seems. Although he appears to make himself difficult to know, those who make the effort make a solid, enduring friend.
-
Here you posit a whole new creation story; with the creator as frail, yet full of hope, and kindness embodied in others who share this world. Eric probably hasn’t even thought in that direction, though he has plenty of time to reflect in. Mostly, he must concentrate on his hurts and his circumstances. But I delight in your suggestions. Many thanks for reading and for your great comments.

To The Old Spruce and At a Gallop
Parker Owens commented on Parker Owens's story chapter in To The Old Spruce and At a Gallop
Thank you for taking time out to read these two sonnets. The magnificent old spruce has been a constant in my existence over the years, through many changing seasons. I’m glad too that you enjoyed the ride. Thanks again. -

You’re very kind. Thank you! -
Evan’s anguish and pain makes me weep. That Matt could do something, anything, to help take even a thin layer of it away is a remarkable feat.
