  1. Same here ...
  2. What a wonderful chapter! Taking the plunge - always scary, particularly if you're psyched up for trouble. His double takes are wonderful to read.

    Flight

Blimey, no sooner does he arrive at some sort of plateau in his life when everything shifts again. Does this scare him away from the ship and his new friends? Or does the engineer come to the rescue? Is this in fact a chance meeting? Or have his former contacts been watching him? I want the next installment now ...!

Thank you! Working with words is something I love doing.
  5. It wasn't until the third time of reading (!), that I noticed your ploy for using each letter of the alphabet. It isn't forced - it flows naturally as part and parcel of the whole. Bravo! I'm sure tim well deserves your praise.
  6. Not forgetting to leave enough time for copious amounts of lasagna, as well.

    The Lake

Short but wonderfully dark and gruesome. I loved the last line - pitch perfect. Lakes can be forbidding, mysterious which is probably why there's so much folklore about them. Really enjoyed it.
  8. Short but very funny, and sexy and clever ...

    Near Miss

Finally, some honest, self-realisation. And when he's enjoying himself, for a change, without anything sexual or drug related happening. He'd better keep his wank fantasies to himself though or he's going to be in so much trouble ...
  10. 'a sad and shadowed man'? I hope this is only January blues talking, Gary. Your continuing creativity is an inspiration to rookie writers like me. You and your writing are much valued and loved here.
  11. Wow! Short but packs a punch like nothing much else I've read here. The imagination and word painting you use on our behalf, is amazing. You don't need to believe in religion to find the story so emotional and uplifting. Thank you!

    In the Basement

I could hardly bear to re-read this chapter. The details are just so vivid and painful. I don't know whether to congratulate you on being able to inhabit Stefan's world so completely or commiserate with you on the pain that writing this must have caused. At least I know that things improve hereon in.
  13. Thanks for adding to my education. I'd never heard of Caitlin Jenner before, so after reading your letter, I went looking. To 'change' your gender when you're an ordinary person must take substantial courage. To do so when you're already in the public eye, must take unbelievable amounts. Your letter's acceptance, honesty and praise is a lesson to all of us.

    The Story

I enjoyed this very much. The spare, laconic style of writing suited the tale - pain, loss, rejection conveyed succinctly and honestly. I loved the descriptions of place - the trees, plants, weather and that feeling of dislocation when you return to a childhood home town which is as you remember, yet it isn't.
  15. Lewis Carroll is an acquired taste. I can take it small doses but it is very much of its time. David? Well, yes, he is thoroughly repulsive. Enough to warrant a death sentence? Thanks for reading.
  16. I've only done two so far - do I qualify? Well, I think I like the second one the best. A response to prompt 511 (one of the orphan prompts given a second outing) blending robotics with Lewis Carroll. https://www.gayauthors.org/story/northie/amilate/2 Enjoy ...

    Catastrophe

Even knowing how the story ends doesn't lessen the gut-wrenching, appalled feelings. My eyes were glued to the page - I've read it before but Stefan's dread and the sickening violence just transfixed me. And, of course, the worst thing is - these dramas are played out regularly in the real world. Despite all the protections, social workers and others.
  18. I found this story completely absorbing, with the flow of conversation between characters being a particular highlight. The opening encounter made me grin. The fallout from a break-up is never pretty and people often feel the need to take sides. But to lie in that way to serve your own twisted agenda is unforgivable. I'm glad it had a happy ending although it was a far from straight road to get there.

    Led Home

What a wonderful pair of chapters! Dark and light - the contrast isn't forced upon us. Instead, the actions of the second flow on from the first. Wally does seem to attract guardian angels, doesn't he? I've given up trying to second guess you. I just read on in awe.
  20. I don't do resolutions at this time of year. It feels like I'm setting myself up to fail. I have some thoughts about the next few months but that's nothing to do with New Year- it's how I operate generally. If they happen, great. If they don't, then it's not the end of the world.
  21. ~~~~ Happy New Year! ~~~~ I'm looking forward to seeing where GA will take me next. I hope your new year will be just as fulfilling.

Thanks, Gary. Finding the right words to describe both sound and silence was a challenge. Glad you enjoyed them.

Your praise always means a lot. It's good that the sense of immediacy comes across - that was certainly one of the things I was trying for.

I'm happy they reflect something of your experience as a musician. Knowing things too well can be dangerous (or embarrassing) ...
