Prompt 511
The neighborhood has gone strangely quiet since the new neighbors moved in down the street. Even the nosey lady across the street has stopped talking and seems to keep her blinds closed now. You have no idea why everyone is acting so odd ‘til you meet the neighbors child. What is so odd about this child?
“Turn up the density on the outside feed.”
He was intrigued by something which had caught his eye.
What was going on?
Something strange was happening outside in t
Having read this, I'm glad I seem to be heading in the right direction. I'm currently working on my first multi-part story and I know in general terms how it's going to end. I also know the main turning points so I hope (fingers crossed!) that I will be able to write and finish the story to my editor / beta reader's satisfaction.
You lost me by the fourth paragraph or so. Which was exactly what I expected.
Some other clever, numerate people will doubtless follow you right through. *Sigh*
The sharp left turn this story has taken somewhat startled me (like TP, only maybe his suprise is going to be longer lasting. Or is it?). As someone has commented, letting him loose in an environment like that could be asking for trouble. Sharing a cabin with one other lad ...?
Roll on next Thursday ...
Wonderful! The sense of being on campaign comes through so strongly and his attachment to his faithful horse.
I was as much blindsided by the ending as Oliver would be.
Poor Parker's already getting fed up of me sending him chapters of various things for him to edit / beta read. One of them at least should start posting soon.
I'm going to have to ban myself from looking at anymore prompts. I've already got three stories in various states of incompleteness and now (thanks to this entry) I have another one floating round my head.
Thanks AC, for your usual thoughtful, perceptive comments on my story.
As people lose their right to privacy (voluntarily or otherwise) they fear the hold that others can have over them.
I love those EM Forster short stories that I've read - I must go in search of this one. And indeed, the Black Mirror ...
I loved it! I don't read much sci-fi but when I do, I like it to be well-written and believable (within its own limits). To also include a romance as well ....
A Part 2 would be nice. Please, pretty please.
I only tinkered round a few of the edges.
I really like both - I thought initially I'd prefer the first, but my favour has now gone to the other.
the cold, gaunt-fingered horizon is a line that speaks very clearly to me today. The weather being particularly cold and bright.
A love story which perhaps many people wouldn't approve of. But it's warm, real and mutual (within a bdsm framework) and it is far, far preferable to Lev's 'home' life, the violence of which is sickening.
A very good, thought provoking tale. Thanks, tim!
What a great read. I love how much thought you put into creating the world / background for our two heroes. I was intrigued by the sexless pronouns which mysteriously disappeared just as Angel was getting interested in Imp - very cleverly done. Your promised sequel will be eagerly awaited by this reader.
Christmas is a time for taking in waifs and strays but the generosity and thoughtfulness displayed towards TP is stunning yet utterly believable. For all that, he is still on the periphery of the celebrations and where better place to see all that he should be and perhaps may once have been.
A wonderful, wonderful chapter.
I don't think he's someone deserving of sympathy. But still, I share your unease at the summary justice he's going to face.
Thanks for your thoughtful review.
